Assalaam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

I would like to start my own library of Islamic literature, preferably in english or transliteration. Please suggest some good books.
Think of other than our Holy Quraan and the Saheeh Hadees. Yes, I know a lot of information is on the web but I am more inclined to read a book than the web, no offence to anyone. I am also looking for books on sufiism, if anyone knows. If anyone wants to email me that is OK too.

Assalaam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

Br Arsalan,
Thanks for your ten, I somehow had the feeling that you might reply to this message. Now my next challenge is to locate these books. I know from your postings that you do have quite extensive knowledge about our beloved Islam. Its good to know people who know more about things you need to learn, more than you do. You can learn more from like minded people and from people who share a passion about something. I would like get to know you better can we contact by email?

Assalamu Alaikum,

Br. Enayeth,

You can buy most of these books on the web.  Try the following websites:

http://www.islamicbookstore.com

or

http://www.astrolabepictures.com

Also, I'm reading "The Bible, The Quran and Science" by Maurice Baucille..and so far its pretty interesting.

Also, I don't know how it is in your community, but I know our mosque has a nice library containing many of the books mentioned in previous posts  (I happen to be housing some as we speak..shhh! ;)  ) However, I suppose if you want to start your OWN library, you might want to buy them yourself.

Take Care,

Assalamoalykum,

Nazia, what edition of the book are you reading? The latest edition that I saw of that book was not a very good one. I mean how can a book go from being excellent to downright boring? I did't like the cover of the book, the print, or the the size of it. He took out huge chunks of information from it.

Assalaamu alaikum,

Here are a couple more recommendations.

- Fundamentals of Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism) by Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips
- The History of The Khalifas Who Took the Right Way by Jalal ad-Din as-Suyuti (This was recommended by Arsalan)

Is Purification of the Soul that is available on the web (jannah.org/articles) the whole thing or it is just an abstract/part of it?

Wasalaam.

I haven't read very many of the books on Jannah's list.  Gender Equity isn't bad, its not in as much detail as I was hoping for, but still its not bad.   Purification of the Soul looked really good, and I had ordered it last week (I think), the one book I'm really looking forward to getting is Medicine of the Prophet (SAW) by Ibn al-Qayyim.  You can't go wrong getting any books by this man.  I haven't read Ash Shiffa yet, have it sitting on my bookshelf, Jannah said it was good.

Even Angels Ask is awesome
Ulum al-Quran is an excellent book
How to tell others about Islam is another cool one by Yahiya Emerick.

Reliance of the Traveller is a good shafi fiqh book to have.
I managed to find a place that had one copy of Al-Hedeya (detailed Hanafi fiqh book) so I ordered that.
Prophet's Prayer Dscribed was good as well.
Signs of the Day of Judgment is good as well.

I also ordered What is Islam by Yahiya Emerick, just because I like his writing style so much, and he explains things so young people will understand it and related to it, not like some book that will put you to sleep.  ;)

I ordered some more books by Ibn Qayyim and Ibn Tamaiiyyah, forgot which ones now, heheheh.

Assalamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

Br. Arshad,
Where did you order the books from any website. I checked the Astrolabe website and was unsuccessful, may be my mistake I will try again. Do you always order online or  go to any particular store in your area. I did read Br. Yahiya Emiricks article on Jannah.org. I must say he has some very nice comments about the life and people he came accross right here in US.

Every one else Sr. Nazia, Sr Saleema, Br Asim, and others I have to thank much.

Now I have one more tough one for you,  Where can I find Islamic books in Spanish language. Who can help me in this endeavor. I have the Holy Quraan but I need other books. These are for my wife, as a Ramadaan present. There are not many sites on the web which truly serve the spanish people. They are the among the people who are accepting Islam in a very big way but not many authors have written books nor can I find any except leaflets like Shahadah, Quraan, Prophet Mohammed (SAW). I am looking for books that will increase the knowledge in their own indegenious language. I can try the tranliteration ones and I am already doing so. Brothers and Sisters help me so I can help.

I just met an old friend of mine after a long time and he gave me the good news that he is going to marry a muslima from spanish background and I am thinking of presenting some Islamic books to them (apart from the other things that I have for them on my mind).
Help.

I think I have rambled enough.

Wasalaam.

For Spanish books go to http://dar-us-salam.com/ and then click on the heading "Spanish", they have some books that will be really beneficial to you, Inshaa'Allah.

Assalam-u-Alaikum,

Another good books ordering site is www.salafipublications.com.  It's based in the UK.

Bro. Enayath I believe that you are from an Indian background, so why not keep some books in Urdu in your library such as Tareekh ul-Islam?  Bro. Arsalan is the man to talk to about that...

The Black Book
The True Political Philosophy of Malcolm X
(El Hajj Malik El Shabazz)

by Y.N. KLY

It's a good book, and not too thick and presents malcolm's philosophy ,(may Allah grant him heaven), in the context of Islam. Not NOI philosophy but the true philosophy of islam.

pretty good insight in some subject matters concerning Revolution and the attention Islam was getting during the civil rights movement. Quotes the Qur'an extensivly to back up claims that Islam is more 'democratic' then the western current system and a lot more than that.

also briefly goes into what the social/political situation would have to be in order for a large number of african americans to start coming back to their roots i.e. Islam.
