as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh, The Original Three (c.) is speaking at a church in a couple of weeks, not just for an audience of youth, which we've done before, but for their parents as well. Any suggested topics? Advice? |

assalamu alaikum wa rahmatu allah, I see you copy righted the phrase 'The Original Three'..ha! As for suggestions for a topic to talk about, how about human rights in Islam? The international human rights day is on Dec 8th this year (I think, if not it shouldnot be too far off that date) There are nice Discover Islam posters (at sound & vision I believe) that you could use for a visual presentation. slm How about Jesus (as) and how Muslims view him? Maybe talk about the Palestine/Israeli situation and what's going on there? Or I guess you could always do something easy like Ramadan. |

as-salaamu alaikum, I know a sister who just recently converted (3 weeks ago)...she comes from a religious Catholic family, and she said that one of the things that attracted her the most to Islaam was that you had a direct relationship with Allah, you didn't have to go through a Priest. So, maybe you could talk about how Islaam doesn't recquire a middleman, and that you are answerable to Allah alone. No human can forgive you for your sins. Hope this helps. was salaamu alaikum Your sis in Islaam p.s.Did the church invite you guys? and if so how come? what exactly is their goal? And what did you guys talk about before? (sorry for all the questions). |

Assalam, Maybe you could do something about Muslim sterotyping. For example; many people think Muslim women have no say in anything at all. The topics Arshad and Muslim Sister mentioned are great ideas too. |

Assalamu alaikum, Just tell them what Islam is, and what it means to be a Muslim. Tell them the articles of faith and the pillars of Islam. Tell them how the pillars are more than just rituals, but that they are a means of attaining righteousness and purification. Stereotypical questions will come from the floor anyway, so no need to waste presentation time in that. Discuss Jesus when talking about belief in Prophets (as one of the articles of faith). Discuss how we have a direct relationship with Allah when talking about Belief in Allah (first article of faith). Discuss human rights when talking about Fasting and Charity, by saying that Islam doesn't just preach morality but provides a practical system to establish it among the people. Fasting and Charity are means to attain just that, and much more. Hope you can make sense out of all that! I'm kind of rambling ... or brainstorming rather. Wassalamu alaikum. |

assalaamu alaikum I think you should be direct & tackle issues of their belief (but nicely of course). Don't go for something like "Ramadan" or "What it means to be a Muslim" because they probably already have an idea about what Ramadan is anyway, and even if Muslims are supposed to be nice and kind people, so what? isn't that common to most religions? (except Judaism). Pick a topic which will leave them without excuse on the D/Judgement for why they rejected Islam - why they can't stand up and say "O Allah, Se7en had a chance to teach us your religion but she didn't tell us what it REALLY was." As in tackle central issues of belief and not side issues of action. I think the topic posted by Muslim sister is the best one so far. Kashif Wa Salaam |

slm The above replies are great. Usually we have time for our beliefs and pillars. Then you are exposing them to Islam. I don't think this would be the time to tackle their beliefs- as you do not want to make them defensive. When a person is on attack they are planning their rebuttal- and not listening. If invited back than it would be a good time. As a revert, it was the way Muslims pray that attracted me. Being a religious woman, I found prostrating to Allah swt the most intense form of worship. The only snag I came up with was when they start defending their position with quotes from their bible. I never came up with an appropiate comment that would not offend them, but would let them know that their bible could be wrong. |

Assalam'alaykum, I think you should simply follow the example of the Prophet (sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and talk about tawheed. |

Assalamoalykum, Don't attack their beliefs. Because when it will come to question and answer time they are going to have some pretty hard questions ready for you and you may not have the answers to them and then that will make you look like as if you don't know anything. You know what I'm saying? And they will go home feeling pretty good and thinking that just because you didn’t know the answer to their question then that means what they believe in is right. I'm not saying you couldn't defend Islam, I know you are a very smart girl, I can tell that about you from your posts, but still, don't take a chance like that. I'm sure the preacher over there will ask you questions too. If you are going to tell them about Salah, mention how all the Prophets used to pray the same way, they would prostrate themselves before Allah. In the New Testament it is written in several places how Jesus (A) and his disciples prostrated on the ground when praying. Go briefly over the five pillars, don't go too much into it. I can't think of something good, but I am sure others will give you good advise, I'm sure you can come up with something yourself. What Kashif has said is true........hhmmmmm...I don't know..... Don't attack but maybe you can compare and contrast the religion. That way they won't be on the defensive and then you wouldn’t have to become defensive too when the question come your way. Talk about Tawheed i guess and compare it to Trinity, etc. Hope i was helpful. May Allah make you three successful. Ameen. wassalam |

salaam hmm i think it's best to start off with the beginning tell them how muslims believe that we all took the vow before we were born . then about how we believe in adam and eve but not in original sin. then a few of the prophets tell them about some recent archaelogical discoveries. then move to muslim views of the early church movements and how we agree/disagree with the views of the various x-tian sects . show how the roman cathloic church wiped out many of these x-tian groups and how the early roman catholic church borrowed muslim texts eg thomas aquinas etc why the muslims disagree with x-tian beliefs in papal infallibility and priesthood/celibacy etc then talk about the muslim situation in the middle east eg the crusades etc. finish off with the modern world and why we disagree with the economic /social sytems in place etc |

Not missionaries.. we have a lot of inter-faith programs at local masajid and at churches and synagogues. Br. Mokhtar is big on that, you can check out his radio program "the Imam and the Rabbi" on RadioIslam. It was a joke.. she was making fun of me and the fact they 'paid me off'.. I guess it's not read that way in text.. |
