The computer police was unable to control the clubs pornographic and
political content

http://www.akhbar.com/article/0,1690,Life26883,00.html

August 13, 2000 - Riyadh (AFP English) - The computer police in Saudi
Arabia has blocked access to all clubs hosted by the Internet search
engine Yahoo because it was unable to control their pornographic and
political content, newspapers said Sunday.  "Access to all Yahoo clubs has
been completely blocked," Khalil Jedaan, head of security at the kingdom's
sole Internet provider, told Al Iqtissadiya paper.

"These clubs have gone beyond reasonable limits. Not only are they
propagating pornographic material but they are also defaming
personalities," Jedaan said.

"These sites are created with disconcerting ease and it is very difficult
to control them. They are being blocked as a reflection of the country's
social, religious and political values."

Of the hundreds of clubs registered on Yahoo, 266 have been established by
Saudi nationals, with an active base of 60,000 users, the paper said.

Dozens of the Saudi clubs are chatrooms where couples, including
homosexuals, can log in to "find a mate" or discuss politics.

Al Iqtissadiya said the decision had raised protests from a number of
"clean clubs".

The kingdom has registered more than 100,000 Internet subscribers since
opening services to the general public in February, giving Saudi
youngsters a meeting point and a window on the world.

Assalamaoalykum,

Disgusting! Disgusting!
I don't know what else to say. Gays?
Oh well,  I shouldn't be surprised i guess. The way the Muslim world is today and the current social trends in getting married, more and more "muslim" gays will appear.
3 homosexuals were beheaded about 1 1/2 month ago in Saudi. Came in the newspapers. The whole Ummah is responsible for "muslim" gays that are appearing becuase they aren't following the Sunnah of the Prophet and getting married at an early age when they can do so. Even lesbianism is getting common now among the Muslims.

May Allah guide us and protect us

Assalamu alaikum,

I remember a few months ago, someone sent an email on the msa-national mailing list advertising their organizational web site.  Guess what it was!  Some organization in North America for North American Muslim Gays and Lesbians!  I actually went and looked at the site, and I was just completely disgusted by it!  No, it wasn't obscene or anything.  But the fact that these people actually have no guilty conscious for what they're doing!  They don't think there is anything wrong with it at all.  I don't know how they read the Qur'an with a blindfold on their eyes!

And then we wonder why we (Muslims) are in the pathetic situation that we are today?!?

Assalamoalykum,

I was doing research for something for a class once and i came across a gay muslims site.
They said that the Prophet(peace be upon him), allowed homosexuality and said that it was from God. But Muslims after his death, started going against what the Prophet (peace be upon him) said. They wrote on their site that the only thing that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said was that gay men are not allowed to rape little boys. So when Islam came the raping of little boys was put to a stop and gay men were given equal treatment as everyone else and thery realized that what they were doing (raping) was wrong.

can you believe that? What lies!

Hmm they conveniently forgot the entire story of Lut in the Quran as well eh...

here's an article on the subject:

========================================
The West like in many other things has taken two extremes regarding the issue of homosexuality. Initially,
homosexuality was regarded as a pathology, a mental disorder in the late 19th century. By the beginning of the 20th
century, psychoanalysts viewed homosexuals as the victims of faulty development. Even Sigmund Freud, the founder of
psychoanalysis, considered homosexuality a deviant condition. It was not until recently that to gain acceptance
biological explanations have been put forth for it. It has become mere sexual orientation from being a sin. A study
published in 1993 even tried to identify a genetic marker for sexual orientation. The research was inconclusive.

Not too long ago, homosexual behavior was a criminal offense in United States. The first major shift came with the
publication of two reports, "Sexual Behavior in the Human Male" (1948 ) and "Sexual Behavior in the Human Female"
(1952), by American biologist Alfred Charles Kinsey. Even though these works contained grossly inaccurate estimates
of the homosexual population and the incidence of behavior, they demystified it in the public domain and made it open
to research in the scientific circles. As a result of the scientific discussion that resulted, in 1973 the American
Psychiatric Association eliminated homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses, and in 1980 dropped it from its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). Homosexuality was stolen from the realm of religion
and morality and jusitified on the basis of biology. One of the last nails were driven in the coffin when Clinton allowed
gays in the military and the questions on sexual orientation were eliminated reducing it to being a "personal matter."

Over the years, the West's conception has changed from one extreme to another. Today homosexuality has become an
academic discipline: universities now offer study programs in homosexuality in which they "reinterpret" their history
discovering famous people who were supposed to be gays.

The Jews and the Christians also responded by making gay support groups and providing counseling to their gay
members. The sect of "Traditional" Jews officially consider homosexuals to be "understood" and not to be "alienated."
"Conservative" Jews went a step further and took homosexuality out of their list of "abominations." The
"Reconstructionist" and "Reform" Jews went even further: they accept gay rabbis, call for social rights of gays, and say
the prohibition of homosexuality in the Torah does not apply in this time!

Putting aside these swings the West has gone through, let us see what does Islam say about this issue. How did Allah
   deal with these people.

   Allah's Messenger mentioned:

"Emigrants, there are five things which may befall you and I pray to Allah that you may escape them: moral decay never
   openly shows itself among a people but they suffer from pestilence and disease such as their fathers had never known;
they do not use light weights and measures but they are smitten with femine and the injustice of rulers; they do not hold
back the zakat from their hers but rain is withheld for but the beasts there would be no rain sent; they do not break the
   Covenant with Allah and His Messenger but an enemy is given power over them and takes much of their posessions;
and their imams do not give judgments outside of Allah's Book and behave arrogantly in regard to what Allah has sent
down but Allah brings upon the calamity they have engendered."

The words of the Prophet have been proven true. AIDS, syphillis, and other sexually transmitted diseases which were
never heard of before have smitten societies who have chosen immorality.

The Qur'an tells us that the people of prophet Lut were the first ones who committed this practice.

"And (We sent) Lut when he said to his people: What! do you commit an abomination (Ar. 'al-fahisha') which any one
in the world has not done before you? "For you practise your lusts on men in preference to women: you are indeed a
people transgressing beyond bounds." And his people gave no answer but this: they said, " Drive them out of your city:
these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!" And We rescued him and his household, save his wife, who was
of those who stayed behind. And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): Then see what was the end of those
who indulged in sin and crime!" (Surah al-'Araf 80-84)

   We learn from these verses:

   (1) The first people to commit this crime were the people of Lot. (2) Lot advised them with gentleness, seeking to
rectify them, but they refused to take heed. (3) Allah describes this act as "al-fahisha" like He describes adultery (zina)
in another verse of the Qur'an:

"And come not near unto adultery. Lo! it is an abomination (fahisha) and an evil way." (Surah al-Isra 32)

   (4) Allah describes it as transgressing beyond bounds, meaning a deviation from the nature upon which Allah created
   human beings.

Prophet Lut said to his people:

"Verily, you do sodomy with men, and rob the wayfarer! And practice all wickedness in your meetings." (Al-Ankabut,
   29:29)

   And he said to them:

"Of all the creatures of the world, will you approach males, and leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your
wives? Nay, you are a trespassing people!" (Al-Shu'ara', 26:165-166)

But their answer to Prophet Lot was:

"Bring us the Wrath of Allah if you are telling us the Truth." (Al-Ankabut, 29:29)

We learn from the Qur'an the combination of punishments was sent by Allah on the people of Lot who committed this
   filthy sin:

   1. They were blinded and left groping, as Allah said, "fa-tamasna a'yoonahum."

   2. A thunderous cry (tore their hearts) (al-sayha)

   3. Their homes were turned upside down.

   4. Allah rained upon them a storm of stones of baked clay prepared specifically for them and destroyed them
   completely.

Based on these clear verses of the Book of Allah the Muslim Umma has been and remains unanimously united that those
who indulge in homosexual acts are sinners, criminals, accursed, and upon them is great punishment in this life and the
   afterlife.

Furthermore, the Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

"Whoever you find committing the sin of the people of Lut (Lot), kill them, both the one who does it and the one to
whom it is done" - i.e. if it is done with consent. (al-Tirmidhi in his Sunan)

It is reported that Khalid ibn Walid wrote to Abu Bakr what should be done with homosexuals he had found in some
distant Arabic tribes. Abu Bakr gathered the Sahaba of the Prophet including Ali. They agreed that those people must be
burned to death. Ibn az-Zubayr is also said to have stoned to death people who were acknowledged committing this sin
to which great Companions like Ibn Abbas or Ibn Umar concurred (Tafsir al-Qurtubi).

   SOME ARGUMENTS REFUTED

   (1) "God made me this way, so what I do must be pleasing to him." Here too a few raise the objection that to expect
them to sacrifice their sexuality is to ask them to act "unnaturally."

Those who argue that homosexuality is God-given need to be reminded of basic facts. Homosexuality is not sanctioned
by Allah in the Qur'an or the Prophet in the Sunna. Rather they have been severely condemned by Allah and the Prophet.
The Companions punished their perpetrators. The scholars of this Umma are unanimous on it being a sin and an
abomination. Had such behavior been approved, Allah, the Most Merciful would have informed us of that, not
reprimanded it and punished its committers!

The claim that most homosexual people cannot recall ever deciding to be homosexual does not mean that Allah loves
this behavior any more than He loves idolatory, adultery, or fornication. Even if for the sake of argument we grant that
sexual orientation is not a choice, actions definitely are.

   (2) "God is love. What I do with my lover is out of love. Therefore God must approve of what we do, or at least not
disapprove of it, since God is love."

First, God being all love is a Christian concept. In Islam Allah is not ONLY loving, as well as Just, Severe in
Retribution, Merciful, Forgiving, and more. Love is not His only attribute. The loving God permits us to satisfy our
desires with our spouse. The loving God forbids us and threatens us with his punishment if we swerve and satisfy our
desires in a way He does not approve and transgress limits set by Him. Even if we grant that people engaged in such
relationships MAY have some emotional bonds just like a man and a woman who are involved in an illicit relationship,
but this can not be excuse for such behavior. They must fear their Creator, heed of the terrible punishment that has been
prepared for such sinfulness, and turn to their Lord in tawba. They must repent sincerely to Allah and stop their evil
actions. They must never meet to avoid being tempted and falling into this sin again. Some individuals might turn
towards this behavior due to their spouse's desertion, or because they have no legitimate way to fulfil their desires. For
others it may be the influence of the freedom of this kafir and promiscous society to let people live a life of sin and
immorality who have changed issues of right and wrong into acceptable and unacceptable! The gays of this country are
actively working to influence the mass-media to change the natural sense of immorality inherent in most human beings.
No matter what the reason be, they should repent and find chaste Muslim spouses.

   True love knows restraint.

   (3) "What Islam forbids is the rape of one man by another, not consenting adults."

The Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever you find committing the sin of the
people of Lut (Lot), kill them, both the one who does it and the one to whom it is done" - i.e. if it is done with consent.
   (al-Tirmidhi in his Sunan)

This hadith shows us that homosexuality is a sin punishable by death in Islamic law (Sharia). This hadith clearly refutes
the above claim because the Prophet instructed that both be killed. Obviously, the one who was wronged against his
will has no sin, it would make no sense that the Prophet ordered for him to be killed as well!

   (4) "The Qur'an just mentions homosexual acts between men, women are not mentioned."

Just as illicit sexual relations can occur between men, they can also occur between women. The Muslim jurists
(fuqaha') were fully aware of it. They called it 'sihaaq' (lesbianism), which they define as sexual relations between one
woman and another. They all agree on its prohibition and state that it is a punishable offence (ta'zeer) meaning its
punishment is a form of discipline for disobedience since no specific punishment is given in the Qur'an, so the
punishment is to be set by the Qaadi according to the circumstances of the crime and the one who commits it. The
lesbian's testimony is unacceptable because she is a evildoer (fasiqaa).

After all this evidence it is not allowed for anyone to make an excuse of ignorance. According to all the Muslim
scholars if someone makes permissible what Allah has forbidden, that person steps outside of the fold of Islam. If they
want to continue with their sins, they should not smear the name of Islam. Whoever forms organization, distorts the
teachings of the Qur'an which forbids homosexuality, should remember that he will have his sin and the sin of everyone
else he misleads on his shoulders on the Day of Judgment.

AssalamuAlaikum! bros and sis'
It is quite shocking to hear that there are actually "Muslim" gays and lesbians in the world! ):(
But one thing that i do know is that there are many truly Islamic clubs which are a part of Yahoo! and many of these clubs have more a 1000 members! These clubs provide knowledge on Islam, current issues, etc and are pretty useful.
It is unfortunate that along with these pornographic, etc clubs..the Islamic clubs also have to be blocked.

assalaamu alaikum

I think the decision to prevent access to yahoo sites by KSA is absolutely the correct decision to make.

The fitan that the Internet exposes people to (especially young people) cannot be underestimated, and its definitely from the Prophetic tradition to block off avenues which would lead to situations where one's imaan is negatively affected.

And the question of inaccessibility of Islamic websites is a non-issue. After all they are living in Arabia - the heartland of Islam (where there are plenty of scholars, and books and Islamic information available) so how bad can it really be if these websites are made unavailable? Current affairs news can be found from non-yahoo sites insha'allah.
