... how do you deal with it?

I'm speaking more in terms of school work.

Assalam ualykum,

I don't!! :) J/K. After class instead of chatting with your friends, do your homework!! For English when you have to read a novel, start immediately!! Never put reading off till the last week or the last few days because you will miss a lot of the nitty gritty details that are important in understanding the bigger concepts in the novel. The best place is the library-go there for studying. Don't sit outside for studying. Find yourself a secluded place even in the library if you can. If people come and try to talk to you, don't pay attention. Say hi, then bury your head in the books and if they are still around chattering away, don't make comments. Just say, "hmm..." "Oh really?" "Oh." "Ok." "Yeah..."

Pretty soon they will leave! Even if it’s your best friend. And always pray to Allah to keep your mind occupied on tasks that are important.

Hope that helps.

Assalam-u-Alaikum,
Being in school(but not American), maybe I know a thing or two....

1.As soon as you get home, finish your work. Think about the consequences.
2.Revise what you took in the day. If your bro or sis come into your room, KICK THEM OUT!!!j/k just ask them to leave because you're working.
3.If a friend calls, tell the friend your busy. As Saleem said, if you do your work in a public area and someone is bieng talkative(this happens to me), just agree with what they say. The best phrases are:
"uh-huh, yeah"
"yeah"
"i know"
"cool"
"thanks for telling me"
"oooh"
"wow"

I don't think I'm exactly answering your question....

one of my friends told me, "you're one of the most intelligent and laziest people I know" hahah :)

don't say "I'll wake up early and do it" no no no that's bad.  always do it before you sleep, even if you don't get to sleep until after fajr.

turn off the computer!  or else you'll be on here or checking your email for the 384390th time today instead of doing what you're supposed to do.

don't all of a sudden feel the need to clean your room.

reward yourself with a pepsi when you actually finish what you were supposed to do.  (oh wait, that only works for me)

and don't stress yourself out.  it's only school! :)
