waxing and threading

Assalamu alikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu

I have read hadiths that state that ALLAH curses the ones who get their eyebrows plucked and the ones who pluck it for them. (may ALLAH forgive me if have said something wrong).

I am wondering if the same applies to those who wax their arms and legs just for the purpose of making their arms and legs look prettier. I have seen many sisters do this.

Many sisters also get their upper lips threaded even though there is only a very slight growth of hair. Do any of the sisters (or brothers) know if it is allowed??????

JazakALLAH khairun

This is the answer from the site Islam Question and Answers:

Removal of women's facial hair

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the Islamic ruling concerning the removal of women's facial fair - specifically, the upper lip, if the hair is very visible or obvious? Is it permissible to remove it, or is does it come under the category of plucking? What about hair on the legs and arms?

Praise be to Allaah.

There is nothing wrong with a woman removing hair from her upper lip, thighs, legs and arms. This is not included in the category of plucking which is forbidden.

Assalamu alaikum wrwb,

I always look at the purpose behind every action. If the purpose of threading or waxing is to entice others, then yes its wrong. But if its not then its ok. To me these are things which are not even important. I always look at the larger picture, which is so much more important. What is the purpose of Islam? Why did Allah (SWT) had to send the Quran? So that His servants can have peace and harmony. Quran gave us guidelines to take care of us and the humanity. Muslim ummah in US and Canada is going thru a tough time. We should think of ways to help. We should start social services in every city for Muslims where we can provide all kinds of services and help in an Islamic way. Our children are in such bad shape, they have no identity. We have to help them find their identity. We have to bring them back to Islam. We should ask ourselves every day, did we really do any kind of huquq-ul ibad. To me these things are so much more important that whether we thread or wax is not even important.
Sorry I don't want to offend anybody but I think its high time that we should start thinking on these lines.

bismillah

also ur more likely to do it for your husband, all gurl party, or at home around ur blood family, ur not really doing it to change your appearance or some such thing.

the hadith mentioned only eyebrow plucking alhamdulillah so maybe that means that all else is acceptable?

kinda like the cow the jews were arguing about at the time of Musa alayhissalam :)

salaam

I do not think the concerns that women have are anything like arguing over the cow.
Facial Hair is a deicate issue for many women.
We want to look as appealing and feminine for our husbands. Things like the "unibrow" really does bother us.
If you think about it we are told to shave just about every part of our bodies- then to have a hairy face....
I think the woman posting the question wants to do the right thing and is asking us what Allah swt commands us to do in this instance.
I understand her question. There is a great difference among the different hair removal procedures and the final result.
But as always- we want to please Allah swt and know that His wisdom encompasses all knowledge of things we know and do not know.

!!!!!!!

lol

our imam (in baltimore) told us that if facial hair is causing a sister distress or difficulty then you are allowed to remove it, as islam is not difficult and does not cause difficulties on the muslims,
but if its something frivolous like u dont like how ur eyebrow arches then i dont think thats allowed...

sorry if i brought back a dead topic yall already discussed :) just had to share me 1/2 penny

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

I was just wondering if I would use the critieria that some scholar (i cant remember who) suggested for this matter.............that is that unless a wordly matter has been specifically declared Haraam it is Halaal and that unless a spiritual matter unless declared Halaal is Haraam.

Using this criteria waxing and threading would not be Haraam, right? Someone correct me please if I am wrong.

As Kathy said, and as the answer from Islam-qa implies, removal of brows is the one meant in the hadeeth ,and the other hair ,it is permissible to remove.
