| KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Reuters) - In a society where public embarrassment is the ultimate disgrace, Muslims in northern Malaysia caught eating during the fasting hours in the holy month of Ramadan had better watch out. On Monday, northern Kedah state will start broadcasting the names of Muslims caught eating during fasting hours, state religious affairs committee chairman Fadzil Hanafi told Reuters. During Ramadan, Muslims are supposed to fast from sunrise to sunset but Fadzil said many had been breaking the rule and eating snacks. Ten names were already on a list to be broadcast on local radio, Fadzil said from Alor Star, the capital of Kedah, a state in Malaysia's rural north where the opposition Islamic Party, PAS, is growing in influence. |

| Asalamu Alaikum LOOOOOOL!! That is a Good one! To me what it will do is this, Everytime they pass a street where others know them they will be stared at and people will not want to talk to them...And Insha'Allah that will make them feel embarrassed and not do that. (Break their fast). They have to do everything in their power as an Ummah to bring these people back to the path of Islam!! LOOOL. And a very creative way to do it at that! Jenna |

| Salamu Aliakom, No i disagree with what is being done. Embarassing them is not going to do anything good, instead it's going to make them outcasts and it's going to make them hate the deen. You see, the fast is between you and Allah. Only Allah knows if you are fasting or not, and if these people are not fasting then khalas this is between them and Allah. As long as they are not hurting the rest of the ummah khalas. Instead these Muslims should be taken aside and advised and asked why they are not fasting, and the whole concept of Ramadan and fasting should be explained to them in a good calm manner. | Salaams, Alhumdulillah, I agree. Fasting is between the individual and Allah. The thought of these people being picked on and teased in the month of Ramadhan of all months is quite sickening. Finding the reasons behind why they broke their fast is far more constructive and most likely to cause a positive response from them. The merciful and compassionate nature of a believer goes a long way. Wa-Salaams. |

| as salaamu alaikum, joe: "hey bob, can i drive your car?" bob: "no, you might break it like you broke your fast today" joe: " D O H! " yes, as you can see, this practice of exposing those who dont fast could have a dire social impact on those whom were violated :) |
