| Salaams, Yup, I like cars, although I find the car prices here in the UK a little more difficult to justify. So tell me, what car(s) [if any] do people on the board own and/or drive, and what cars would you like to own and drive. I drive a Turkis Mettalic coloured (always causes a smiles in the office over here) VW Golf Match. A bit on the slow side due to its weight, but it does its job in style! I'd like to own a metallic indian red coloured VW Golf VR6, with front/rear light conversion, wide bumber and 17" Viper alloys. Oh, it has to be a 5 door hatch for family convinience(!). I heard the majority of cars in the US are automatics? Is this true? I prefer manuals myself because of the freeedom to control the car as you please (especially when cornering!). wa-salaams, VVvvvrrrooommmmmmmmmm |

| Asalaamu Alaikum I drive (and I use that verb in its loosest sense) a Rover which is a traditional British car except it has Honda engine in it. Hmmm My quality threshold for cars is rigorous and comprises of the following: 1) It starts first thing in the morning 2) It's in one piece 3) It starts first thing in the morning 4) It gets from A to B 5) It starts first thing in the morning Given that petrol (Tr gas) is 80p a litre (Tr $5 a gallon) at the moment I think I may opt for a scooter next time round :) |

| Assalamu Alaikum, Somebody hurt my car :( Some <mean> punks took a key and scratched her ALL up. They went around the WHOLE car, even on top!! :(:(:( I calmed her down, told her everything was going to be ok and took her to the dealership. Brother told me I was looking at $2000 worth of damage :( I started crying! :( What would possess someone to do that to my car??? Anyways, I guess I am going to get her a new paint job, even though she's not even two years old!! Oh well, there are bigger problems going on in the world, so I shouldn't complain. But it just irks me to think that sometime during the night, someone, for no good reason made the conscious effort to sabbatoge a perfectly harmless car. And no, I don't have any enemies, this didn't even happen in my home town. *sigh* oh well.. | slm Nazia I can feel you. While I was upstate (Albany/Troy) area visiting a sister someone also keyed my car but nowhere near as much as the damage to yours. The sister thought it could have been someone that didn't like her or what she represents and knew my car from a previous visit (go figure) , Wallahu a'lam, I could not even be furious. Like you it was 'oh well' I didn't cry though! But anyway my car is a toyota Avalon and I love to drive it! and Khalid I can agree with your list. My favorite but currently unaffordable car/truck is the Land Cruiser by toyota. Hot doesn't describe it! Ahh... I should mention for awhile my cars were... Nike, new balance, nine west, caressa, nicole, easy spirit... ;) :) |

If you can't drive you really should put that on your list to do InshaAllah I take the subway during the week myself. I get there much faster! |

| Salamu Aliakom, Car? Heh no I ride the bus, hamdulilah it's cheap and everything I need is close by to me. Though I am looking into getting a car sometime soon insha Allah. Dunno what is with some ppl and their obsessions over cars. It's just a metal hunka junk hehe. Now if I had a camel, ahh yes then we can really start talking about our modes of transportation. Hmm Bhaloo I don't see myself riding a camel down highway 5 ... ;) |

| Salaams, I can't understand how anyone in the states haven't learnt to drive yet (unless they don't need a car or they're underage). Most cars over there are auto's aren't they? Just to give you an example of how easy we brits think autos are: :-) We hired a car for our friends wedding - it was only an Omega 2.0 16V as we thought we'd use it to escape when the wedding festivities became to hot to handle! ... anyway, one of our friends has never driven before .. ever .. so I sat him in the drivers seat and gave him instructions .. "put the gear into 'D' and hit that pedal to move forward, and the other pedal to stop" ... that was it ... he was driving .. driving lesson in 10 secs flat! That inspired him to learn to drive! So there you go ... hehehe .. ahem. Nazia - you don't half get some loonies on the streets these days! If they can't have a fight with a person, they'll pick on a car (unless your car picked on the guy first?!?!). And as for insurance .. don't get me started on that one - it's a racket over here! I've been quoted £1500 (just over $2000) for the year! I'm piggy-backing on my father's insurance for now, until I hit 25! Wa-Salaams. |

| Asalaamu Alaikum I am not (I repeat) NOT going to make any cheap cracks about women drivers ;) Have to agree with the automatic thing. Driving stick all the time, you don't realise how easy it is to drive an automatic. Absolutely perfect for the quiet English country lanes. |

| slm ok i realized what happened, don't ever leave a child alone in a room with a computer. it was just two minutes and look what he did. any ways what i wanted to say was jannah didn't we name you car madhuri??? and you don't have to worry about se7en driving the jeep without a license. me and dhikr have a permit so that's gotta equal one licnese right :) |

| Ford Explorer. When I first got it, I didn't think I'd ever figure out how to parallel park it. My poor husband thought he'd go crazy seeing all the scratches I'd put on the sides of the tires from banging the curbs. I used to drive a Honda Accord 5-speed. I loved my little blue car. Sometimes I miss driving a manual shift car. Aladdin was right about control. One advantage with automatics is that it's a lot easier to eat while you're driving. Or talk on the phone. Or feel around on the floor in the back for baby's dropped bottle/binky/whatever that they're squalling for. Or take potshots at squabbling children in the back seat. Yes, I multi-task while driving. No, I won't tell you where I live so you can stay off any road where I might be driving, etc. |
