I know it has been brought up before but as we Muslims in America go out to change the world, a chilling reminder waiting for us is the USS Liberty. Reading the story is heart wrenching. Regardless of your thoughts on the U.S. Military, these are people who are willing to make the supreme sacrifice so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have. On June 8, 1967, while sitting in international waters minding its own business, the USS Liberty was purposefully and viciously attacked by the Israeli Military. During the prolonged and brutal attack, 34 men died and 171 were injured. Not wanting anybody to know about Israel killing innocent Americans, the government institued a full coverup. How heart wrenching this must have been to families to know that the deaths of their loved ones was of no consequence when compared to the importance of extremist, militant, Zionist interests. Reading this story makes me think of Wag the Dog. If this could happen to non-Muslim patriots, why couldn't it happen to some Muslim? This is something to think about when we go out to save the world. Make sure we are doing it for Allah and not for recognition. We may never get that recognition. I think this is a story that should be known by all Americans. It is a sad time when we don't even respect our military when they die because we value foreign terrorists' interests more than American lives. This is the only incident where there was not a Congressional investigation into the cause of death. The crew was forced to keep quiet or risk being court-martialed. The ship was not even allowed to return to the port it came from for fear that people would know of the truth. The U.S government prevented the media from reporting the truth by instituting a full coverup. For hours and hours, the government would not even go out and help the dying crewmen. Maybe they hoped they would all die and the ship would sink and be forgotten about. I don't know. It is a very sad story. It is a lesson to all of thus though and it should never be forgotten for it could happen again, regardless of how much faith you have in CNN. Here is a veterans' website that describes the brutal killings, terrorism at its worse.
