We have the honor of hosting Shaykh Salah As-Sawi at alHuda school this year for all of Ramadan.  If you know Arabic, you can listen to his lectures live at www.alhuda.org/sound

After Fajr he gives a power house question and answr for 15 minutes which is translated to English.

He is one of the leading scholars of our time, his halaqahs in Egypt are attented by thousands of people. He is the Dean of American Open University, a ph.d graduate from Al-Azhar.

Here is a reply from Shaykh Salah as-Sawi regarding Muslimahs who miss their fast due to pregnancy:

It is permissible for her to miss fasts due to the pregnancy if she fears for the safety of the child.  She does NOT have to pay any penalty for that.  When she is feeling well, she should make up those fasts.

If the next Ramadan comes and she has not completed her fasts, she was either (a) lazy in making up the fasts and extravagant with the time or (b) she had satisfactory reasons for not being able to complete before the next Ramadan, i.e. such as another pregnancy, post natal bleeding, sickness, etc.

In case (a) she is sinful; additionally according to one opinion (which is the fatwa of Ibn Abbas) she should feed a poor person for each day in addition to making up the fasts.
In case (b) she is not sinful and she does NOT have to pay any additional feeding. Simply, she should make up the fast when she is capable.

And Allah knows best
