I thought this was fun and don't worry you don't have to be a math geek to solve it :)

Which number is the odd one out and why?

1000

290

29

The Night of Power is better than a 1000 months and  most likely occurs on either the 21st 23rd 25th 27th or 29th of Ramadhan.

So 290 is the odd one out

Oops did I not mention that it had nothing to do with math? ;)

Well I did say it was timely :)

Brother Khalid now that we have an idea of how you think, perhaps this isn't so difficult. ;)

18 is the odd one out.  30 days in Ramadan this year and fasting 6 days of Shaawal is as if one fasted the whole year. :)

And I thought that one was going to be a real stumper! :)

Oh well back to the drawing board for the next one ;)

But it is amazing how Allah (swt) gives us so much reward for so little effort

Asalaamu Alaikum  :)

Okay just to confuse you, this one isn't timely or topical but is in fact actually math related.

There were two Muslims who each had some pieces of bread. They were about to eat dinner when a traveller with no food came across them. One of the Muslims had five pieces of bread and the other had three. All three of them shared the bread equally and the traveller gave the two Muslims eight dirhams in return for the food.

The two Muslims now started to discuss how they should share the money. The one who had 5 pieces of bread said he should get 5 dirhams where as the other said since we shared the food so we should share the money.

They took their argument to Umar (RA)

What do you think he said?

Okay this is a heads up that I'm going to post the answer to this one on Friday so you've got a few more days to think about it (if you really want to that is) :)

Its all to do with Math and ratios are a good thing to work with.

No tricks, just math, okay?

The two had 8 pieces of bread. They shared it equally so each got 8/3 pieces.

First Muslim gave 5 - 8/3 = 7/3 pieces
Second Muslim gave 3 - 8/3 = 1/3 pieces

That is, the first Muslim gave 7 times more than the second Muslim.

So the first Muslim gets 7 dirhams and the second 1 dirham from the 8 dirhams :)

I think it has to do with the days that you can fast in Dhul Hijjah, and you can't fast on Eid.  Remember he said it was a timely teaser, so it has to be related Hajj/Eid.

I got 1,000 posts, did the system crash?

Did we ever come up with a name for the 1000+ people?

As for the question:

Yes related to Hajj but not to do with fasting ;-)

Thanks. :)  I don't know how long it took, I guess as long as this board has been up.

I thought Jannah or Saleema would definitely get 1,000 first cause they were way ahead, but maybe they let me get to 1,000 first cause maybe they know that guys are cry babies when they lose? ???  I don't know. :)

"And remember Allah during the appointed days. But whosoever hastens to leave in two days, there is no sin on him and whosoever stays on, there is no sin on him, if his aim is to do good" [2:203]

Odd one one is 13 because Hajj can be completed from the 8th-12th Dhul-Hijj and the stay on the 13th is optional (ie if someone has chosen not to leave Mina by Maghrib on the 12th)

May Allah[swt] accept the du'as of all the Hujjaj this year and may He grant them a Hajj Mabrur
