| ...city of The Rabbit Assalamu alaikum, Albanyians. As it turns out, wife, father, and I will be moving to Albany in mid to late February, insha Allah. My wife and I will be visiting sometime after 1 Jan to find an apt. (I'll know exactly when in a couple of days). Right now, I'd like to know if y'all (sorry, I just got back from Houston) had any recommendations for areas/neighborhoods in which to live. We're interested in living within the Albany city limits or very close (i.e. further than walking distance from cows). We're also intersted in living very close to other Muslims and/or a masjid. I understand Masjid-as-Salaam and Madina Mart are fairly close to each other. How are the surrounding neighorhoods? Any other good places? Thanks for any help. First of all you'll get beat up if you come here and say al-bunny :) Masjid as-salaam is in a not so good part of town wouldn't recommend it, though tons of pakistanis live there... stay away from arbor hill and the student ghetto.. anything from pine hills (where we live) and above is decent.. though the higher up you go the more yahoodi you get ;) I'd recommend you start looking for a place near your work, and search out from there.. Everything in the tri-city area (albany troy schenectady) is twenty minutes from everything else... |

| I'll have you know that I have quite a bit of cow-related experience. Namely, I have helped groom and show cows on three occasions. It was my chemistry research group's unofficial hobby in grad school to participate in our school's annual Dairy Exposition. You all should be so lucky. BTW, are there any cow smilies? | Assalamu alaikum. In our quest to find an apartment, we've just booked passage to the Albany system and will be arriving on Wednesday 3 Jan around 1p then leaving Friday 5 Jan at around 7p. We'll probably be having dinner with some people from GE (my employer to be) one of the nights, but I was thinking that my wife and I could meet some of you on another night. So it would be either Wed the 3rd or Thu the 4th. Email me if you're interested (and which evening would be better). We look forward to meeting the brothers and sisters, insha Allah. | Salam again. It turns out that our agenda gives us Thursday night (4 Jan) free to meet anyone who wants to be met. So if you want to hang, send me an email. We're travellers so there's no excuse unless you're going for umrah! We figgered on sampling some fine halal cuisine (any pointers?) and perhaps praying Isha at one of the masajid (probably as-Salaam). Anyone know what time the adhan is that evening?
