Salam Alykom everybody ..

I hope everyone is on  good health :)

Well i am a high school graduate and looking forward to join a university ensha'ALLAH  .
My parents want me to join faculty of engineering in an american university . They really want to see me with a good position specially that my elder sister didn;t join university she just joined an institute and didn;t finish her school studies in the first place (just beacause she doesn;t like studying and failed many years) .
So now my parents' aim is to see success in 'ME' .
Anyway, I am okay with joining engineering but i prefer joind something related to islam . Islamic studies or da'wa something of that sort. I really am imterested in such a thing but i am afraid my parents wont like it (they are not relegious).
And am i in this way disobeying them ??
Should i follow their desire and join engineering and maybe study islam after finishing that ??
Or shall i go for islamic studies from the very begining??

I'd love to read your suggestions sisters :)

Jazakom Allaho khayran

Salam Alaykom

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllah;

Congratulations on graduating, may Allah grant you success in this life and the hereafter, ameen!

I can understand where your parents are coming from, they want you to be successful in this life,  live happily and comfortably.  But they also need to keep in mind your success and happiness in the hereafter, and success in this life is based on that.

Have you spoken to them about your interest in studying Islam?  Maybe you should emphasize how important this is to you, and they will take you seriously.

And, you can always do both.  Studying engineering doesn't prevent you from learning about Islam.

Assalamu alaikum,

As se7en says, you can always do both!

Actually a friend of mine is doing a 5 year part time traditional Islamic sciences course and at the same time doing an Engineering degree.  The institution for Islamic studies was just set up 2 years ago in the town where we study.

If you do go ahead with the Engineering try and choose a place that has a strong Muslim community and an active Islamic society.

All the best!
