Salams Mr.I will put out my blankets and dishes all over the masjid esp. where the women pray!!! that is right....i have a story so, i was at the mosque, good little me and my freinds ready for tawareeh prayers with our little qurans...then i walk in and i was astonished at what i saw... appalled... surprised... AHHHHHHH!! There were hundreds, thousands of blankets and sleeping bags all over the women's place to pray! (the womans area is behind the men area of prayer..so they put their blankets there) I said to my friend "where shall we ever pray?" There we were...in a desert of blankets..so what better thing to do then fold them up and move them (yes, i said FOLD AND MOVE!!!) but then... A security guy comes and yells at us and this old woman next to me adn tells her "you can't TOUCH brothers things...go pray somewhere else!!" He moved almost 50 women b/c the brother's blankets needed space to pray WHAT? WHERE SHALL WE PRAY? we had to go pray in a classroom b/c the brothers couldn't fold their blankets and put away their pillows... us, woman had to pray next to a room where little kids were watching a movie filled with songs... Brothers, if you are going to do itikaf or pray at a masjid..plz have the courteousy to fold your blankets and extra sleeping things..even though they may still be in your men section! Thank You a terrified sister :o |

assalaamu alaikum In this case, i think the fault is with the lazy brothers. But let me bring something else to the fore. When i was at uni, some sisters were upset when we suggested that we might have to exclude them from the jumu'ah prayer room because there was insufficient space for all the brothers to get in. What they didn't realise was that the obligation for the male to pray salaah in congregation ESPECIALLY Jumu'ah prayer is much higher than that for a sister. Kashif Wa Salaam |

Assalam, Yup,that's true. That's what my uncle told me. That it's required for a male to pray at the Masjid, than it is the females. |

salam, that's true kashif that in the case of Jumah prayer it is fard on men and not on women, but perhaps they could set up some type of speaker system into another room. It isn't that difficult to buy a little kareoke type thing for like 50 bucks. i think esp in the west it is extremely important that women get the chance to go to the mosques/prayers b/c this is the only place they learn islam. they do not have the outlets of learning islam at home/school the traditional way in muslim countries etc. there is nothing for them and if they are excluded from the mosques/islamic centers and other places then in one generation i guarantee these girls will be going to the mall and will never go to the mosque and will never teach their children about islam either. that's pretty pathetic about the brothers blankets.. i would start with nicely talking to the imam or the head i'tikaf guy...and just bring up the point that the sisters really want to participate in ibadah too rather than go shopping. |

slm At the bowling alley I go to for jumah the women pray in another room next to the main room and there are speakers brought in by this one brother with a microphone. At least on one occasion he didn't show up (sometimes the khatib doesn't show up but that's another problem) so I don't know what those sisters did. ??? |

slm No, no, no, bowling is going on, but because the bowling is on the 1st floor you don't even know it, or hear the bowling even. The second floor is just their offices and 2 or 3 big conference rooms. :) |

slm Here what they did for itikaf was put a little curtained partition for brothers to put their sleeping bags/pillows so it doesn't disturb anyone. And the partition was on the men's side. And the imam made it mandatory that all bags and pillows must be put away before fajr. Mulan that sucks. Talk to the imam. If people are messy in the house of Allah, who knows how they are in their own house. It's not only that they made you all go to some other room with noise, it's the lack of common courtesy to pick up their stuff. |

thanks rashid! i know that it is Far'd for man to pray at the masjaad, but it doesnt mean that women aren't going to be there. they shouldn't have laid their stuff down all over teh women's area to pray... alhumidAllah, yesterday was good...they actually folded their stuff! :) |

Assalamu alaikum, Not to undermine anything that Mul@n said in her original post, things are worse in Pakistan. In my one month visit to Karachi, the biggest city of Pakistan, I found only ONE Masjid which had a Women's prayer area! And I visited more than 7 Masaajid for sure. It's sad! Once I was out at a shopping center with some female relatives when I heard the Maghrib adhaan. I ran over to the Masjid to pray. The women that were with me didn't pray! When I got home, my aunt, who prays regularly (at home), told me with a voice filled with sorrow: "if only they had women's prayer areas in the Mosques! There have been countless times when we are outside and we hear the adhaan and wish to pray, but we cannot because there is no place for us." I wonder if things are any better in other Muslim countries!?! |

walaikum salaam wrt, in India no women go to the mosques. when the adhan is heard some wait awhile and pray at home. in Saudi all of the mosques we went to had NICE women's sections. a legacy of the sahabiyat perhaps...:) there is a mosque here that is extremely uninviting to women. once when we really needed to pray and we drove right by it we seriously contemplated not stopping or finding some other corner/public place to pray. pretty sad huh |
