What has the Arabic scholars become?

I was reading an article in the Economist magazine, it was about the Arabic literature.  Did you know that Arabic is one of the top five languages that is widely spoken throughout the world...yet is it one of the lowest languages that is read and studied.

People just don't read arabic literature works anymore! They don't do scientific experiments and stuff like the past scholars
What is happening to our educated arabic scholars, scientist, and philosphers?

I was in a lecture by Hamza Yusuf this passed ISNA and he said that Arabic scholars in the olden times were soo educated and soo intelligent. They new that carbon existed way before the Europeans (they knew alot of things b4 europeans)
He said that he was in a library in some arab country and he said to this man, "there aren't arabic scholars like the ones hundreds of years ago"...the guy said "there aren't even arab people that know how to read these (scientific, philosphical) books!"

Even then, arabic writers are paid the lowest wages (according to the Economist magizine)

Just wanted to share
Therefore, what has happened to our language and scholars?

Assalam ualykum,

Well, I don't know what happened to them. Well I do, the people left Allah and started chasing after the world. It's okay, inshallah, people will come back as the Qur'an and ahadith predict. When i learn Arabic inshallah, I am going to read those books. :) Cuz a lot of them aren't translated in english. :)

:) :)
Cheer up Mulan!  :)

wassalam
