Who would you convert??

Assalamu Alaikum,

A friend of mine and I were playing a game where we would ask one another hypothetical questions
and compare answers etc.
Here's an interesting question that came up, and I'd be interested in seeing your answers.

If there was one person you could convert to Islam, who would it be and why?

It can be anyone, preferably living, so that it is atleast plausible.

I have an answer, Insha'Allah I'll post it after some responses.

Well, I'm leaving for Atlanta today, and in a couple of days I'll be headed out to L.A, soo, I'd like to go ahead and wish you all a very merry Eid ;)  Eid Mubarak!

I said Bush because America has the most powerful military and if the leader is Muslim, what does that say? :)

The Pope because once you convert the head of the Christians, insha'Allah the rest will follow. ;)

Of course we mean here that only Allah (SWT) guides people, the question is actually who would we like to see become Muslim. :)

Salam,

Only Allah can guide people to islam.  So the question should have
been: who would you like Allah to guide to islam?
I think it's important to keep this in mind.

Yes, definitely the pope...he knows about Islam, he's spiritual...it would just be overwhelming.

Anonymous you are correct.

Assalamu Alaikum,

yes! My answer was the Pope as well.  Actually, when I posed the question initially, I was trying to think of someone who had a lot of power, a lot of respect, and a strong intellect.  I had initially thought of the President of the US, but since almost everyone thinks he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, I figured it might not work for our time.  But the leader of the entire Roman Catholic Church, subhan'Allah that would be amazing!

Actually any Jewish, Christian, Bhuddist, Hindu religious leader, or famous scientist etc, converting to Islam would be quite amazing.  You know, its like in the time of the Prophet, when Umar ibn al-khattab (ra) converted, it was a spectacular victory for the Muslims, because of his extraodinary strength and widespread respect.  Anonymous was correct in asserting that only Allah (SWT) can ultimately lift the veil from the hearts of the disbelievers which would lead them to Islam, but thats not to say we could not do our part.

I would have said that it shuold be the US President too, but i know that it isn't really the US President who is the most influential person in the world either. There are various people and groups who influence the President, so scractch his name out.

I think choosing the Pope would be an excellent coversion, may Allah guide him. This would truly be an Earth-shattering move if he were to take the shahadah.

Other people i would have liked to see converted are Noam Chomsky, because he has brought by the Permission of Allah news and information about the plight of the poor and suffering in a way like probably no other contemporary has.

But my wish.. and read this carefully is for the ruler of Saudi Arabia. I'm not pronouncing takfeer on him but i do know that some consider him to be non-Muslim.

More specifically i would wish for him to be guided *IN* Islam. There are plenty of Muslims who, while being Muslims would make lame leaders for a Muslim nation. But specifically, Arabia is the land of the haramain, and regardless of its ruling family it is the spiritual heart for nigh on 1 billion people. Now, if a righteous person were to take the reins of this state, a leader who the Muslims would respect and love, we could insha'llah see some major changes: the training of mujahideen, scholars who are allowed to teach vigorously without restraint insha'llah to oppose the false aqeedah that modernist and kuffar elements would have us believe, and revive the spirit of this ummah, and of course, Arabia being the land of black gold we'd have the financial clout to affect the whole world!

AsalamAlayKum,

In order of My Personal Preferences:

1. Kathy's sister

2. Anthony (Tony) Robbins

3. David Letterman

4. Ted Koppel

5. Madonna

6. The Dalai Lama

7. Tim Berners Lee,
The INVENTOR of the world wide web, although he IS a UNITARIAN, it'd be neat if he were officially a muslim.

8. Bill Gates...would become ---> Bilal Gates??

9. The ArchBishop of Canterbury
(Head of the Anglicans and second biggest Christian sect after the Catholics.)

10. Steve Case, Chairman of AOL.

11. Sting (aka Gordon Sumner)

12. Paul McCartney

13. Dilbert (The Cartoon Character)

14. Alan Greenspan, Head of the US Federal Reserve  ...NO interest rate!!  yayyyyy!

15. Neo, in the Matrix Movies, the character becomes Muslim as the ULTIMATE and only true step of becoming FREE.

16. Lt. Cmdr. Data in the Next Star Trek Flick.

17. Prince Charles...AFTER he becomes King. As head of the Church of England and defender of the (Anglican) Faith...This would be...ahem, interesting.

18. Prince William, becomes Muslim, to marry a Saudi Princess, for LOVE, not money, Joining the House of Windsor with the House of Sa'ud and boy would that wedding be a media event.

19. Tiger Woods, following in the steps of Mohammad Ali.

20. Dick Cheney and NOT bush. If the USA was ready for a Jewish V.P., (they weren't), will they tolerate/accept/dispose of a MUSLIM V.P. ?? Let's Find out.

21. Emperor Akihito of Japan. It'd be neat if Every Toyota would play a recording of the muslim Traveller's du'a at ignition. Say Bismillah before you bite that sushi!!

22. Pat Robertson. Then maybe The 700 Club will become The 786 Club...?

23. Steve Jobs.  the i in iMac would then mean Islam.  Can you imagine the Apple TV ad Campaign?

It is a tough choice but I would probably pick George W. Bush. He could do a lot of good for Islam. Think veto power. The Pope is a close second. With the Pope, I worry that he would just be removed from the position of Pope and that would be the end of it...until he was assassinated. Barak would be nice...for the 2 days before some Zionist extremist assassinated him. Poor Yitzhak Rabin. I won't even discuss rulers of Muslim countries :(.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned Vladimir Putin, the leader of Russia. Or have we forgotten about our oppressed sisters and brothers out there? The ruler of China would also be a good choice...before he was assassinated.

Sorry to sound like a pessimist. As you can guess...the optimist was assassinated ;).

I would have to say my family.  They can all be converted, Allah has enough mercy and blessings for them all.

Then it would be my best friend.  Then we could go to the Masjid together, make salat etc...

I would love to see Allah choose a dear friend of mine whom I would marry the moment he converted.
:)

As for the leaders... I would go with everyone's top choices and add the children of this world because InshaAllah they will become leaders themselves. not only that, everyone after them would be muslims.  That would be a great feat!

Okay, a bit of a contentious one perhaps but what about Eminem?  Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone so (apparently irreparably) damaged and who has such a talent for communication and use of language (albeit most of it foul) and influence on kids today could reject all the rubbish, accept the truth and begin espousing Islamic values such as freedom from drugs, respect for others (in particular his mother), not swearing, etc.

Truly Allah guides whom He wills and no-one can do otherwise.

Incidentally the best insult I have ever heard came as follows:

Years ago I had a Saturday job in a shop (Rymans the stationers for all you Brits) and a friend of mine and his girlfriend came in to have a chat, mid-afternoon.  One of my co-workers took one look at my friend, one look at his girlfriend (a very pretty girl) and said to my friend:

and left!  How cool???

Reflecting for just a minute about the Eminem
choice above...I think back to Mike Tyson.

This Brother became Muslim in Jail.

I remember sitting in a Juma Qhutbah and
Hearing from Imam Abdullah Hakim Quick the
good news that another brother had joined the
Ummah.

Alas, after He left the Jail, The Shaytaan and
Don King seem to have conspired and influenced
Malik (mike) Tyson to involve himself in some
un-muslim behaviour.

I think, we born or now-muslims have a job to do.
That job is creating a support system for new
muslims to ease into a complete muslim behaviour
program.

Kinda like Dawah after the Goal of Dawah is reached.

So if George Dubbya did become Muslim...
His National Security Advisor would be...

You know, all of your answers kind of got me thinking.  "Who really has the most influence in the world, etc"  Is it the Pope or is it Brittney Spears? I mean...its an arguable point.  So, my question to you now is tihs: Who do you think, besides any of the Prophets, has had the most influence on modern history? I know that of course, Prophet Isa (AS) and Prophet Muhammad(SA) along with Prophet Musa (AS) and Prophet Ibrahim (AS) have all had tremendous influence throughout history, and continue to have that influence even today, but I mean besides them.  Is it a president? Or is it a movie director? A poet? etc..

I think Shakespeare had incredible influence over western pop culture.  But I don't know if I'd say he had the *most*

There is an interesting article in the latest Time magazine that talks about how Brittany has become the latest teen idol. Girls as young as 3 dress like her, want to be her!!! And now there is a new trend in clothes for girls to be more ..skimpy..short and sexy, along with all the makeup and everything else.  pretty scary if that is the role model even the young girls in our community are following.
