Fajr Khutbah for 22nd day of Ramadan

It was narrated that Umar went around the kaba and heard a man say, Ya Allah, make me among the few. Umar asked, Woe to you, why are you asking to be amongst the few? The man replied, Didn't you read the book of Allah where the ayah says 'few of my servants are grateful'? So I'm asking to be among them.

Prophet Muhammad saw has given us the best example of being perfect, of giving thanks to Allah swt. The prophet saw said the man who doesn't appreciate what others do for him, doesn't appreciate what Allah does for him. (those who don't appreciate man, don't appreciate God.) Prophet Muhammad saw has taught us how to appreciate favours and how to repay them back which is by saying "jazakallahu khairan" (may Allah reward you best) when this is said, you are paying back the person in full.

The greatest favor is that we are in Islam.

Salman Farsi was sitting in the masjid one day when a man entered. When the man saw Salman alFarsi, he kept looking into his eyes and smiling, looked in his eyes and smiled, looked into his eyes and smiled. Finally, Salman asked, who are you? The man replied, fortunate are your eyes because they have seen the prophet saw. I wish i was in your place! Salman replied, Woe to you! How dare you wish something that is not granted to you. (and said something like...)..There came a time when ppl rejected Islam(?)...you are fortunate to have came into your mother's womb as a Muslim. (fortunate to have come in the time where/when Islam was accepted and practiced)

How do you guarantee that you are among the believers and not among the disbelievers? it is when it comes to showing appreciation not just for the big things but also for the little things. A blind and paralyzed man was at a masjid saying alhamdulillah. A man who noticed him asked, what is there to be grateful for? Look, you are blind and paralyzed. The blind man replied, I am grateful to Allah for giving me a tongue that is constantly remembering Him, a body that is constantly content (patient) with it's decree and a heart that is humble to Allah.

So take advantage of the small moments. There's a beautiful saying that "life is made up of small moments and ..." The prophet saw taught us not to overlook the small things in life. you have so much that very few people posses. He said, if you wake up in the morning and you're secure of who you are...then you're already the most fortunate of people so be thankful...be grateful to Allah that you were able to eat, drink today, have a shelter for the night b/c so many do not have it.

little things in life makes it joyous.
