| Asalamualykum, to my knowledge, hijab is keeping ur whole body covered including your hair, so like it can be a full body(jilbab) and head cover or it can also be a head scarf with a baggy shirt and skirt. WaAllahuYalam. |

| depends what you mean by hijab... if you mean by hijab--> "islamic dress" in it's formal sense then it is everything prescribed by islam..covering everything except hands and face and keeping it loose and NOT (thanx bhaloo) transparent however, if you heard someone saying, hey i need to buy some hijabs, or where can i get some then i would say colloquially hijab means the headscarf part. |

| Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu I have always thought that hijab along with the outer dressing is also an attitude of modesty that Muslim women should maintain. Coz I have seen many women with the right kind of outer dress but whose talk and behaviour dont seem to be very modest. Wassalam |

| salaams Ki I hear you. But something interesting about Hijab it that it keeps a person from getting worse. Its kind of hard to explain but it is a blessing in the sense that it enhances your conciousness and makes you more aware of your actions. |

hijab - /hijj/ab/ - n. 1. Literally a barrier or covering between two things. Ex: 17:45 "When thou dost recite the Quran, We put, between thee and those who believe not in the Hereafter, a veil invisible" 42:51 "It is not fitting for a man that Allah should speak to him except by inspiration, or from behind a veil, or by the sending of a messenger..." 2. What it is necessary for a woman to conceal of her physical self (namely: covering everything but the face and hands, according to the majority of the scholars; not showing the figure either due to tightness or transparency of clothing; and not imitating men in the clothing style.) 3. The mindset, demeanor, conduct and character of a modest believer. This is where hayaa comes in. In this way, women and yes, even men, have an "inner hijab". (or as my brother likes to say, "the hijab... within" :) and Allah, the All Knowing, knows best. |

| sorry but hijab is a HEAD covering. JILBAB is a body covering. NIQAAB is face covering. THATS all. GOT that? I have no idea where you guyz brang HIJAB is a whole THINGY!! but yes in most ways it is. just understand it as the whole body covering. thats all. |

| hijab is not just a head covering -- that would be called a scarf or a khimar there is much more to hijab than a piece of cloth |

| asalm walakum. hijab what does it mean. these days it is used to mean many things. so the question cant be answered directly. people often take the word hijab to mean what the women has to cover. According to this definition there is a difference of opinion among the ulimah about what constitutes hijab. Some ulimah consider it to be khamar(scarf that covers hair and breasts) and jilbab(barrel shaped outer clothing that covers the whole body. Other ulimah consider that as well as the above, women must cover the face and only the eyes can be visible. there are many evidences which the ulimah use to prove their opinion and answer the opposing opinion, I cant be bothered to list them. if you want to find out ask people who follow the opinions. me personally, I don’t know which opinion I feel the stronger, the evidences of both opinions seem very strong to me and I don’t need to make the choice, cause I don’t wear hijab, I’m male. |

| ok lets take it the easy way. hijab is to cover a womens modesty. there is one for men but it is not called hijab and it isn't the same. so now you know. thank you Jannah for finishing it up. we just used to say its a head cover so maybe i was wrong. sallam :) good luck inshallah |
