Pool With Turtles

Deep is the pool whose overflow
In the cool bright showers
Is like an eye weeping below
Lashes of quivering flowers.

Look the merry turtles sport
Like Christians to the field
That sidle, frolic, and cavort
Bearing a casual shield.

Assalamoalykum,

Obviously, the author has had some experience or an encounter with Christian soldiers. Does anyone know the dates of the crusades and the Spanish Inquistadors? It has to be one of those. Since the author ihas to be from Muslim Spain from back in the days or from Persia,  maybe it is more likely that it is a Spanish war.

We can figure out exactly what war she was thinking  about at the time of writing the poem if someone on here knows where she lived at. (Where's the brother who used to post poems from "The tales of the Caravan?")

Anyway, the poem has a very light hearted tone to it, so maybe this is after a war or before the war.

"Bearing a casual shield"--- the author is reminded of the shields of the Christian soldiers when she looks at the shells of the turtels.

Interesting poem, were these taken from some book, or just something random you came across?

Assalamoalykum,

It was from a book back in the days of highschool.
I like it so much, I memorized it.

The picture it creates in ur mind is very powerful and very beautiful. About the "lashes of quivering flowers."

Wassalam
