I think this category is much broader now to include a variety of topics. Speaking of which, anyone have any good book recommendations of new books? I plan to look for some good stuff at isna. I'm also buying some videos/books for the Islamic school here so if there's anything that is good let me know inshallah

Asalaam alaikum wrt wb,

You are talking about recipe books or other books?  I thought this section was only for food related books? ???

I figured any book or product...sort of a place that ppl can give recommendations (or non recommendations) and suggestions about stuff. hmm international house of kabob could be a place where people get together to review stuff ;-)
what do you say

Asalaam alaikum wrt wb,

I'll admit you gave some pretty interesting reviews of restaurants and places in the past, I don't know why you stopped.  I think those would be extremely helpful for people living in those areas or planning to visit.  What we need also is some sort of yellow pages for Muslim businesses so we can support these businesses.

Assalamu alaikum,

I just finished reading a book a couple of weeks ago, and liked it alot!  It's called "Khalifas who took the Right Way."  The author is Jalal-ud-Din as-Suyuti.  I don't remember the translator's name.

Once again, if you can find the audio set of "Lives of the Prophets" by Anwar al-Awlaki, buy it!

Wassalam.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

the summary of this folder says its open to recommendations of movies, books etc as well as recipes.

Anyone know of any good Islamic movies other than The Message, Lion of the Desert, Malcolm X, and Fatih?

Assalam Alaikum,

These are the books which I have read lately. I think they are great.
1. Freedom of Expression in Islam by Mohammad Hashim Kamali.
2. Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence by Mohammad Hashim Kamali.
3. Social Justice in Islam by Sayyid Qutb. (Great Book)
4. In the Shade of the Quran. Surah 1 and 2 by Sayyid Qutb. Excellent detailed tafseer of surah Baqarah with complete historical background.

I did buy the 'lives of the prophet' series upon the recommendation of the group and it is wonderful i must say ma'shallah. i learned alot that i didn't know about the prophet's and it's definitely more than just 'children's stories!!'

BTW did anyone else notice that they splice different quran reciters throughout the series.. they never stick with one.. I think I heard Basit and Shaatri and a few others...sometimes it gets distracting from the talk but othertimes i think it's useful to have the quran verse he's talking about

as for the guy saying "proceed to side B" at first i thought it was very odd, but then it felt like he was helping you along ;)

Assalamu alaikum,

I liked the Qur'an recitations by the different reciters.  The "proceed to side B" snippet helps because nobody wants to listen to empty space!

I think the beginning is kind of cheesy though ... the part where all the Prophets are mentioned by name.  It's kind of over-dramatic I guess.  Anyway!  I liked the speaker alot, as well as the content.  Can't wait for the rest of the series to come out.

Wassalam.
