Round Robin!

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

Why don't we have a round robin (at least I think that's what they're called), where someone starts off a poem, and everyone contributes a bit until it comes to an end?  You can bring it wherever you want, change scenes, plot, add/kill off people etc... that's what makes it interesting.  If poetry is too hard maybe we can just do a story?

I'll start...

It was one day in the summer and I was minding my business
Walking down the street and you wouldn't believe this

Some random guy approaches me from some car
"Pardon me sister, you know if the masjid is far?"

This boy was as American as apple pie
blond hair blue eyes and a black striped tie

He smiled at me and looked down at his feet
"Brother" I said, "it's just down the street."

"Ok sister." He smiled again.
"I'm new to this area, I just moved from Austin."

"That's nice" I said, moving back a step.
What was he thinking, that I'd be impressed?

He saw me move back and was quick to reassure me
"I'm Muslim you know, but it's been quite a journey."

---

Ok.. someone? anyone?

Okay, I'll start this off. But don't expect me to add much to this. Poetry is not something that I am good at. :)

"It all started back in college"
"When a Muslim classfellow chose me as his project mate"

Hmmm...this doesn't rhyme. Ah well, I shouldn't have tried in the first place. :)

"It all started back in college"
"When a Muslim classfellow chose me as his project mate"
....

I said, "Is it true what I read?"
"That Muslims are backwards and Islam is dead?"

He said, "Islam is beauty and truth"
If only you would take the time to search.

After that I studied and learned
this desire within me was lit and burned.

I read the Quran and Hadith,
I listened to Hamza Yusuf and Imam Siraj,

I thought this must be the truth revealed
And then one day all of this couldn't be concealed.

I took my shahadah the very next day
I feel that in Islam I am home to stay.

So what do you say my sister,
was your journey to Islam in a similar way?

Asalaam alaikum wrt wb,

Hold up, time out,
You guys are doing this Poetry completely wrong this aint what its about,

Lets take it from the top,
Each person adds to the story, but only 2 lines max and they better rhyme and then he must stop.

Everyone got it?
Lets try again, and please don't have a fit, :)

assalaamu alaikum

I can't believe you Americans are so much into poetry. And poetry in English?? English is probably the most unemotional language in the world!

You can rarely find a poem in this language that is good for its entire length (unless its something like 4 lines). Most of em die after about 8 lines - just like Se7en's did.

Man there is more poetry in my programming!

Asalaamu Aleikoum

Kashif, why do you have such a downer on the English language?  It's not the English language that's unemotional it's us Brits!!

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

Arabic is a language that is unsurpassed in it's beauty, rhythm and depth.  But you use what ya got, and what I have is English.

As for English being unemotional:  This society is one which exalts and emphasizes base human emotions.  The language of this society does that as well.

bhaloo, you killed my round robin!

Could take him across the desert, and into the Egyptian milieu

Poor Umair! No wonder he was confused
'coz he grew up in Albany, a town with cows suffused!

The guys Umair regarded as bums were actually smart and intelligent
They knew that cow tipping was illegal and dangerous, and could lead to a regretable incident

Said salam and asked if they were headed towards the Holy City or not

Or are people sick of this thread now and want it to fade?

Then he realized it was an Albany cow.
Who at times also liked to eat name brand chow.
He liked Makkah so much that he decided to stay,
And for prayer he was never late.

And this my friends
Is The End.
