As salaamu alaykum.
I enjoyed reading the "bio's" of the new muslims signing up on this board.
It seems that there is a regular group who know each other from Jannah.org.
Can all of you give us your salams and a little info about yourselves? Especially the moderators.

Good idea sister K.  Also, do some of you guys know each other in the real world too?

Asalaam alaikum wrt wb,

I've never met any of these people in real life, just know them from the internet, quite a few I know from before the message board.  Alhumdullilah, some are very knowledgable and have helped me a great deal and are among the best Muslims I know.

I'm a computer programmer out here in southern California, mostly do C programming some assembly.  I've always enjoyed working with computers, ever since I was 11 or 12.  I do play video games, such as Unreal Tournament (a 3-dimensional shoot people kind of game, upto 32 people can play at once).  If anyone is interested in playing against me let me know. :)

I am a huge Los Angeles Lakers fan, enjoy playing basketball as well.

Assalamu alaikum,

Hmm ... I tried to do the same thing in the Ikhwan Health Club and it didn't work!!  Maybe I was asking for too much :)

Anyway, I don't know a single person on the board in real life, but I would definitely like to meet some of the brothers (esp. Arshad, Asim, Abu Khaled and Kashif).  I'm a senior in college here in Texas, looking forward to working in a Bio-informatics industry, inshaAllah.  I'm a die-hard fan of the Houston Rockets, and love to take people to the hole one-on-one on the basketball court :) (of course, that doesn't mean I can't drain the outside jumper)

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

I'm sure you can tell a lot about me from my posts here.

I'm addicted to pepsi, yes I admit it.  I get in trouble a lot because I tend to speak before thinking.  I'd like to take this opportunity to ask forgiveness for any offense I have caused anyone, or for the offense I most likely will cause in the future, heh.

Hmm... ok.  If you have any questions, ask me, I'm not exactly meek.

:)

take care and keep me in your duahs.

Assalam-u-Alaikum,

I am a newbie here at jannah.org.  I joined only when the new board was set up.

I am a 17 year old Pakistani, living in Saudi Arabia.  I intend to go to Pakistan for medicine soon Insha-Allah.

It seems that everyone here likes basketball... and I'm no exception.  My favourite player used to be Hakeem Olajuwan, but he's getting a bit old now and I don't really follow the NBA anymore.

My favourite games of all include Half-Life and System Shock 2 but I also enjoy Freespace 2, Unreal Tournament Demo (had it not been for the slow and laggy connections here in Saudi Arabia I'd probably own the full game as well!).  I don't own it yet, but I think I'll really like Deus Ex!  Yes, I'm kind of a games freak!

Right now however, I'm keeping myself busy with my meagre attempt at an Islamic website and having a whole lot of fun while I'm at it!

Later dudes,

Wassalam-u-Alaikum

Assalaamu alaikum,

I am a PhD student in the area of intelligent systems engineering and work as a research
associate in the knowledge engineering lab, which is in the department of civil
engineering. Quite a mouthful, eh? All this makes explaining to people what I study/do
really hard. So I wouldn’t bother you with that. :)

InshaAllah, I hope to graduate in the next 6-9 months. I look forward to what Allah swt
has in store for me. It will be interesting for sure, and challenging no doubt. That is life!

I am a Pakistani by birth, grew up in Nigeria, spent some time in Pakistan, and now have
been living in the US for 5.5 years.

I follow all sports but am not a big fan of any. I kinda closely follow Columbus Crew
futball (aka soccer), although they have been pathetic of late. :( Why don’t they get rid of
the clown they have as a coach? ???

I joined the message board a few months ago. MashaAllah and Alhamdulillah, the
citizens here are really knowledgeable and I have learned a lot from them. Their
knowledge continuously reminds me how little I know and how much I have to learn.
InshaAllah the learning will continue for life. I also don’t know any of them in real life,
but would love to do so.

Arshad, what computer did you have back then? My first computer was a Sinclair ZX81
way back in 1982. It had 1K of memory which ran out after 20 lines of BASIC code!!!
But it is amazing what we could then do with that 1K. We had games like sniper, sub
bombing, etc. After adding 16K expansion, we had games like lunar lander, which was
quite sophisticated and really hard to master. The poor ship almost always ended up crashing! :) Unfornately, the computer no longer
works, but I have kept it as a historical item. :)

As salaamualaykum.

Thanks for asking Safiya. All of your ages amaze me. Humdil Allah the depth of knowledge here on this board is truely wonderful! That is why I asked you all to "tell me more."

You are our next generation of Muslims and if you are any indication of this new generation, the Muslim Community is very lucky, Masha Allah.

You will all soon be having families of your own which is an incredible opportunity to change the ummah around. I am really pleased to see alot of your discussion here- and I enjoy the sense of humor( like cow tipping...)

I am a revert to Islam, back in 1986. I was a Roman Catholic who wanted to become a nun- until I realized how much I wanted a family.

I met a muslim at my job and I tried to convert him- tee hee.... One day I was at a park and I saw a muslim praying- right in the middle of public! I tear up now thinking about it. Never before did I see such devotion and love for Allah swt. I wonder if this man ever knew the impact his prayer had on me. May Allah swt reward him.

Coming to Islam was not an easy road for me. I was a left over feminist of the 70's, family pressures were unbeleivable, I questioned every thing that I was taught. May Allah reward all those Muslims who were soooo patient with me. I surely didn't ask easy questions- Or proper- Yoi!

Humdil Allah, I overcame enough of it to take shahaddah and it was just the begining of a tough road. Sickness, surgeries, divorce, poverty, loss of friends and family, death ....  Not an easy path.

But I am so grateful to Allah swt for all my trials. Because this has given me knowledge and a compassion and understanding I never had.

I grew up in a privledged life, college, and a great career, a beautiful home, a doctor husband. In a blink of an eye it was all gone.

Of course my family attribute all of my misfortune to my reversion to Islam. Little do they know the yoke of my oppression has been lifted and none of those things will get us to paradise....

Well I could go on.. but enough- I could write a book!

"Hold fast to the rope of Allah"

Kathy - I hadn't read your post when I posted mine, and re-reading it now straight after yours makes it sound superficial, so I've decided to modify it!
But I think what you say about your conversion is very interesting, and subhanallah quite incredible.  It's always amazing to hear stories like yours because you really realise that Allah does really guide us.
Also, it's very interesting that you were going to be a nun, because in Britain recently there has been some interest in why most female converts to Islam are from a Catholic background, whereas for men it's not necessarily the case. What do you think?

Asalaam alaikum wrt wb,

Wow, so many questions to answer, hehehehhe. :)

Kathy- That was a really incredible story, subhan'Allah.  You should write a book or at least an essay, insha'Allah it might inspire others.  I know this brother (Alee [AbuAdaam]) who runs a website that collects revert stories and stores them on his website.  I forgot the website address but I have it on my links section on my web page.  I'm sure he would put your story up.

Safiya- I didn't know there was a difference between college and university over there.  Over here they both refer to the same thing.  With regards to programming, it can be fun if one likes working with computers, but not everyone that is into computers likes programming.  I know one Muslim that didn't like computer programming so now they are persuing a career as a computer grahpics/multimedia designer.  There are also network administrators that connect computers together and make sure things run smoothly on system.  So many possibilities out there.

Yes, documentation is required, but I am so bad at that and kind of lazy and I get these ridiculous schedules that are impossible so my documentation suffers.  This other guy working with me is really good at documentation but has difficult working under pressure, so his schedule suffers as a result.  But its always good to have documentation.  I did play around with pascal and basic a few years back, but all these languages are pretty much the same, basic, pascal, c.  C++ and Java are a little different, object oriented languages, you should definitely look into those if you are thinking about being a computer programmer.

Asim- Wow, you have been to some really interesting places.  What was Nigeria like?  How was the Muslim community there?  What language did they speak.  I know who the Columbus Crew are, well I heard of them. We have the LA galaxy out here.  They got Luis Hernandez, a star player from Mexico.  I had a commodore 64 and a Amiga 500 computer when growing up.  My dad had a timex sinclair 1000, those were something else, weren't they?  Amazing.  I don't know what happened to it.  That's too bad your computer zx81 doesn't work anymore.

ProudtobeMuslim- So what's it like living Saudi Arabia.  That sounds like such an incredible experience.  Please share with us.  That's too bad about Unreal Tournament, otherwise we could have played.  I don't know what Deus EX is, I get this game magazine, free for filling out a survey and on the front page they have Deus EX, I'll have to read up on it. :)

Se7en- Thanks for the reminder, I too am a Pepsi drinker.

Arsalan- LOL, hahahah.  Well I gave into the pressure cause more then 1 person asked.  Did you get a team for ISNA?  Sounds like you got game. :)

Haaris- you didn't tell us anything about yourself? ???

Tree- Hey! Basketball requires skills.  But I am a fan of the Brazillian soccer team, their passing skills are incredible.

I am a developer too. Most of the time I am login on to this board but I am supposed to be working in Unix/C++.

Nigeria was nice, really nice. I fondly remember the time I spent there. Life was simple and a lot of time was spent on outdoor activities. As the area was tropical, we often dodged snakes, lizards, and an occasional monkey while biking through the hills and bushes.

We lived in the north where the Muslims are in majority. The best thing I liked about the locals was their simplicity and humility. They truly trusted Allah swt in all matters, never becoming overcome with anger or grief. There was also a substantial Muslim community from Pakistan and India.

The medium of instruction there is English. Islamic studies is taught as a regular subject in schools.

Yeah, Commodore 64 was very popular. Around 1986, I got the Sinclair Spectrum 128 which was something like the Commodore. But I envied my friends who had Commodore because the Spectrum had fewer software titles available.

Assalam-u-Alaikum,

You're right bhaloo, I wouln't want to live in any other country than Saudi Arabia.  You can actually go out at night without any fear of mugging etc.  There are so many Sheikhs and scholars and many of the big book publishers (e.g Dar-us-Salam) are based here.  So, especially if you know Arabic, you can really get into studying about Islam.  Just about at every corner there is a mosque... thats just wonderful.

On the other hand (like there is to many good things), it is unfortunate that there is quite a bit of prejudice towards non-Saudis.  For example, a teacher of mine in school couldn't get his children into a Qur'anic school because they were for Saudis only (he was british).  He had to get special permission direct from the minister.

There are other things similar to this but I won't go into them.  That's because all things considered I still wouldnt want to live in any other country.

P.S. You get a free subscription to games magazine?  What survey did you fill... I dont mind a free subscription...

I'm sorry I didn't mention this in my previous post, but Kathy your story reminded me of a similar one of faith and perseverence.

My Islamic Education teacher is a revert from Dominica (a small island in the Carribean).  When he was in University (after his reversion) he had a friend who helped him in D'awah.  These two people were the first to revert in the whole island.  The friend of my teacher, when he entered uni, came second (or some position similar) in the whole island in some national exam.  However, after his reversion, his grades started to fall so low that he failed his University leaving exams twice.  He experienced great hardships since he was told that it was because of his reversion that he failed.  It was so bad that his mother used to kick him when he went into Sajdah as he prayed at home... but he persevered and had faith.

If memory serves me right, while he was working on his father's farm he saw an American by the road selling some incense perfume.  This is the point where im forgetting what exactly happened but I believe that he joined the american in his business as an assistant... and then went his way up after that.  He is now, believe it or not, the richest man in Dominica.

So, kathy, the moral is obvious... have faith and trust in Allah (AWJ), then nothing but good can happen to you... at least in the Hereafter Insha-Allah.

Okay, my story is considerably less colourful than most of yours.  I'm English and, Alhamdulillah, I reverted to Islam just over three years ago.  All because of a girl.  In the first place anyway.  I met and "fell in love" with a girl whose parents are Pakistani.  She didn't practice but had enough respect for her deen (not, I hasten to add, just for her family and culture but for her deen) to let me know that she would never marry anyone who wasn't a muslim.  I thought I'd start reading up about Islam, you know, to see what it was all about (all veils, mistreatment of women and a harsh criminal law so I thought).  Subhanallah!  The best move I ever made was to buy a book on Islam and read it.  The next best move?  To meet real muslims and talk to them.

After about eighteen months of reading about Islam I was in Hyde Park in London (Speakers' corner if you know it or know of it).  I got talking to a brother there and took shahada.

Since then I have come to realise what an honour and privilege it is to be muslim.  So many things make so much sense to me now.  Allahu Akbar.

I stumbled on this site a while back, before the new board and was amazed by the knowledge and sincerity of the brothers and sisters out there.  I still am.  May Allah reward you all.

As far as sports go I'm a football (proper football, not American Football) fan.  Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) are my team.

By the way, the girl who (albeit inadvertently) introduced me to Islam is now my wife.  May Allah make our union a righteous and happy one.

Salaam all.

assalamoalykum,

That was a nice story Haaris. So was urs Kathy. Remided me so much of someone else's story.

First of all I would like to thank everyone on this board for helping me out through my tough times. Sometimes i would leave my real name and at other times I would not. (on the old board of course) May Allah reward all of you. I would love to meet everyone on here actually. A while back, I was going through a period of "Who cares about Islam?" and "Why should I be a good Muslim?" stage. One of the big reasons (about 90%) that I regained my sanity was this board. May Allah reward all of you. Even though some of you didn't answer my questions directly, everything that was posted on here helped me a lot.

Anyway, I love Sprite. I like to read a lot. And I love poetry and also write some. This is my first year at college and I love it! I have met some really nice Muslims, alhamdullilah.

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu

MashaAllah great idea sister Kathy to get all the brothers and sisters to narrate a little about themselves.

Me, I am a born Muslim 21 years, Indian and just completed my degree in Information Systems (although by Allah I know so little about computers) and I have been living in Dubai ever since I can remember. All you bros and sis out there who are into programming do tell me how you started with it. I think I lack the kind of logic that is needed to be a programmer.

I think I am a meek kind of person (is that bad???), and very shy. To this date I hold my greatest achievement to be my decision to wear the Hijab. I used to be one of those who thought that Hijabs were for the extremist Muslims and I though then that "I was not one of those". But Alhamdulillah that I wear the Hijab now.

I have learnt so much from the stories of reverts. I admire all of them so much. Sister Kathy and brother Haaris your stories are just as inspiring. May Allah give all of us just as much courage to fight Shaitan and his followers amongst mankind. Ameen.

Great place to be this Madinatul Muslimeen and I love the new board. May Allah bless all those responsible for it.

Nothing else, I guess for now………

Until next time……….

So, I live in Toronto, Canada, been in school forever it seems trying to finish off my PhD in Biochemistry.  All dua's for me to finish it soon are very welcome.  I am old enought to start worrying about others knowing my age ;-)

I truly enjoy the time I spend on this message board.  Love the new format. Really like the idea of everyone introducing themselves.

Asalaam alaikum wrt wb,

I think this is are most popular message thread.  So many people from different parts of the world, alhumdullilah.

Ki- I started programming because I had an interest in computers and liked playing games and wanted to make them.  I like computer programming because its all very logical and it gives me an opportunity to show my creative skills.

Safiya- yes, I took some computer programming classes during college.  i know there is a heavy emphasis on documentation, but i've managed to get away without doing that much documentation. :)  Yes, if you don't practice programming you start to forget it, unfortunately.  So its good to practice it when  you can.

Saleema- Alhumdullilah, I'm glad to hear that this board has helped you.  Its nice to know that the board is helping people, perhaps this will encourage others to participate more, insha'Allah.

Haaris- Alhumdullilah, that's a very nice story.  I've heard the name Hyde Park mentioned before, just don't really know about it.

Asim- There were a lot of Pakistanis in Nigeria?  That's interesting, was there a reason for this?  Such as economic opportunities?

ProudtobeMuslim- I forgot which survey I filled out.  The company I work for buys a lot of computer equipment so sometimes outside companies want to see if they can sell stuff to us.  So they send some of the employees surveys to get information about the company and see who they can sell to.  That's really cool to hear that there are mosques on every corner.  Incredible!  I've heard the people are very friendly and helpful there?

Assalaamu alaikum,

There were a lot of Pakistanis in Nigeria?  That's interesting, was there a reason for this?  Such as economic opportunities?

Yes, it was for economic reasons. Many professionals worked in Nigeria starting in the early 1970s. All were professionals (engineers, doctors, teachers, etc) and none unskilled labor, unlike in the Gulf.

Assalam Alaikum,
Masha Allah, you guys have such interesting backgrounds/stories!
Yep, it's definately very cold during the hamattan season in Nigeria. When I was in boarding school, I always prayed that they would let us stay in the dorms when it got cold....No such luck though
I am kinda curious, what state did you live in Asim? My family predominantly lives in Kaduna.
I am so delayed in responding to posts because I just moved into an apt., and we haven't gotten round to fixing the internet yet...so I still have to use the computers at school.
I hope to hear more stories..Insha Allah

ok my turn!
i picked up computer programming pretty late in life!
well my father was off to buy me a commodore 64
and he met a friend who's half-mexican and half pakistani (living in england go figure!) who told him i'd probably be playing games on it all day...so there went my pc

when i got to uni i was attending law lectures during the day and messing about on Muds some real hacker types on hooked up on our server ...i mean these were really weird people...the guys used to wear black nail varnish! and they used to dress up as vampires and stuff and go roleplaying in the park at night...lol

At uni i had a pretty strange bunch of friends
one was a hindu fundamentalist (he supported the bjp and the tamil tigers..) , another was this really bizzare sikh who wouldn't eat food cooked by muslims because his grandmother said we would do magic on it...no really!,
the third was a christian evangelist who was always trying to convert us...till he realized the rest of us had pretty valid reasons for rejecting his beliefs( basically i took him aside and we had a debate from 10pm till 4am in the morning till finally he said well i belief because i have received the holy spirit!)
then there was the catholic (he and the evangelist never got along..because the evangelist referred to him as a idol-worshipper lol)
and finally me (who you know a lot more about from my posts!) and a gujju indian muslim (desi's know what a gujju is..*s*

Well you hang out with some interesting people! LOL, hahahaha.  Those role playing people are weird I remember them from school.  They would go off in the library and roll the dice and move their pieces all along, and yeah they dressed in black.  They acted weird and would throw fake punches in the air as if they were seeing things.

Yeah, those missionaries always resort to illogic after they have been refuted and say stuff like well you just don't understand, or they say, well my beliefs are set and I'm not changing them.

So this guy convinced your dad that you would play games on it all day? Heheheh, he did you a favor.  Its true man, I played games on it all day.  I was so addicted to it and the amiga 500.  I knew all these hackers all over the world and would read about their hacker parties and competitions where people would bring a computer to someone's house and they would play more games and talk about computer related stuff.  Hahahahah, those were the days.  ;)

I love computers and the internet and jannah.org. I like to learn things on my own like html and now perl! I try to be active in my community, like in MSA and the mosque. I like this - getting to know everyone on this board hahaha.  It's interesting how paths cross here...

Ok bout me:  Born in the US of A, grew up in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, King Faisal Specialist Hospital went to Manarat), moved back stateside, did an undergrad in Religion, now doing masters in the same in the SOUTH (GA).  Can't wait to finish and move up north where there are more Muslims (Chicago or Ann Arbor).

I am currently suffering from a major headache trying to translate from Arabic - I never really knew how difficult it was to translate till I tried!!!

Anyhow, some of the conversion stories are really awesome, alhamdulillah... a number of people I know have converted because they were interested in Muslim girls too, hahaha and the girl wasn't really to practicing but after marriage (and the guys conversion), she started wearing hijab, praying, etc!  So alhamdulillah...

I know bhaloo from back in the days, jannah I met once or twice at conferences (though I missed her at this last ISNA!!!).  Everyone elses names are familiar to me but I don't think I have met any of you :)

Anyhow, back to the books for me...

Ooops, I didn't know Hiyam is a girl's name, I thought it was a guy's name?  ???  There are other names on this board that confused me as well, I thought they were guys.  Aren't there some names that can be used as both?   For example, we have a sister on this board by the name of Suha, and recently at a restaurant I went to the waitor's name was Suha and he was from Turkey.  Then there are other names that are close to each other like Faisal for guys and Faisaliyyah for a girl.  There's also Arshad for a guy and Arshia for a girl.  There's Rehan and Rehanna.

Arsalan, I heard organic chemistry is hard, I'm glad I only took one chemistry class, it was more then enough for me, hehehehe.  Saleema while I agree chemistry is boring, biology is a lot of fun, you get to cut and dissect things and operate.  Its probably as much fun as bungee jumping, right Arsalan? :)

se7en, you're right, if I ever heard someone saying Faisalyaa I'd say "Ok, I'm sorry mom, I'll stop beating up Huma and Shaz..."

Its like this Far Side cartoon where theres all these people stuck in a traffic jam, and they're all yelling at each other like "Watch it buddy!", or "Buddy, get the he*k out of my way!"  And then there's this guy sweating bullets, and the caption says "Why People Named Buddy Hate to Drive" :)  Ok, it was funny when I read it!

Arsalan, did you ever study biopsychology?  Its definitely got to be the most fascinating subject I've ever taken.

Hiyam, are you sure you like programming?  Its very...geeky, I mean look what its done to Arshad and Jannah :)

Kathy, not really sure what to tell you about myself..I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do.  My dream would be to spend a year studying French in Paris, then a year studying Arabic in Damascus(I love Syrian people :), and then live with the bedouins in the Sinai for a while. Assalamu alaikum,
Hmmm... I'm a Nigerian graduate from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (BSc. Business Administration). I'm currently working with a local Internet Service Provider as part of a one-year government funded programme graduates have to be engaged in over here.
24 years old. Always had an interest in computers but never actually got to touch one until about a year and some months ago. Since then I've taught myself as much as I can about the use of computers and software (we're still not that computer-literate in this country) - while I'm fast at learning new software I hope to be able to develop software on my own as well, Insha Allah. Currently, I'm trying to establish myself as a webdesigner (my most current and favourite work being http://www.charity2mssn.bosra.com - someone else made the original site: http://muslimsonline.com/~mssn ). I produce most of my graphics (Corel Draw9 and Corel PhotoPaint and began to learn a bit about Flash, I've enjoyed artwork - avoiding the haram stuff - and playing around with colours since I was little).
Okay, that's it, plus - I love this board. :)

InshaAllah I hope this finds everyone in the best of health/iman, etc.

This thread has been so interesting, I always end up thinking hmm, this name sounds familiar, maybe its so and so whom I met at a MSA conference, or at some other event..

Anyways, here goes, I'm steppin up to the soap box once again to intro myself.

My name is Somaira :o) (my login is so creative eh?). I'm a junior, majoring in Political Science and English, minoring in Human Rights (everyone make dua inshaAllah plz for me that Im able to grad a lil early next year!!!). I think I saw that Saleema was also a Poli Sci major so that made me quite happy =). I was begininng to think that I was surrounded by only Science-oriented people...

I intend to go to *law school* inshaAllah, so if anyone has hints for LSATS ;), dif law school recs, etc, leave me a message please!

I'm from CT, fam is from Pakistan, although I was born and raised here. I'm in love with D.C. though!! I've worked in Sen. Lieberman's office..I'm looking for some summer internship in DC, foreignpolicy related if anyone has any ideas to throw out..

umm lets see, what else? how was I introduced to the board? through a friend...(Ruqayyah) who came to visit, and told me about her new addiction, ie Jannah.org ~~ before I knew it I had begun checking a up on the board quite frequently myself! ahh, we should start up a support group, Jannah.org Addict Anonymous or something...jk

As for someone saying that they hope to go to Syria and learn Arabic, Ruqayyah and I'd love to join ya. I was actually wondering about any programs there for students, does anyone have info on them? if so, send it on along..

Alright! time for jummah..gotta go get ready.

Ramadan Mubarak Everyone.

Take care

I am 23 years old...I work for the state in Virginia, doing Info Sys (seems to be a lotta techies on board :):):) )... graduated just last year. I am going thru' a major "perspective" changing time right now (ahem..all the confusing posts I've put up :):):) ).
Jazakumu Allahu Khayran for your patience...I really needed the support...Its nice to know you can reach out in the "dark" and there will be brothers and sisters who are listening and willing to lend a hand...Mashaallah.

I am excited moving forward though...back to the drawing board big time :-)

I am astounded by how young some of you  are Mashaallah:) I really enjoy learning and sharing creatively too...

I don't know what else to say...i'll go read some more posts now:):):):):):)

Ma'a Salamah (Peace out!)
Assalam Alaikum,
No, I am not doing psychology, that's for crazy people.

Hey!
I'm a Psychology major and I'm not *that* crazy! :)

Wassalam,
Maryam

I did psych, and I slightly agree with Saleema.  Most of my profs were kinda crazy, (one or two were REALLY crazy).  I can't say I'm not just a little crazy myself, but then again, there's crazier people, and THEY'RE the ones who need us less crazy psych people!  See, that's how it works.

This is funny cause I was just asking someone about intro's as I never did one. And by the way most of you are making me feel very old  :) This can be a reply to this thread and my intro  :) Is that cheating???
My name is Cara and I'm 40 I just recently married my pc friend and I have to admit I liked doing it that way instead of dating. WE knew each other almost a year on the pc and got to know each other very well. We live in Washington State. I use to live in Oklahoma. Navy wife. Have my own business for 5 years now. Two grown sons 22 and 23 (See why I feel old lol) and I am blessed with two wonderful and beautiful daughter-in-laws. No grandchildren yet.  (Well they keep giving me 4 legged grandchildren)Into horses, other critters and farming and growing own veggies and raising own meat. Outdoorsy lady all the way. Came to this room looking to learn about Islam and to make new friends.

I am overwelmed at the kindness and caring I have found here at Jannah. Everyone has made me feel very welcomed.  :) Even if you are a bunch of young'en's  (Just joking)
Thank You everyone for your kindness. When my husband gets home I am looking forward to showing him this site. Maybe he and some brothers can talk.

Is there anything you wanna talk about? :-)
"caginess"?  You mean blocking yourself in or blocking other people out so you don't get hurt again?  sure, anyone who's gone through it understands.
I hope insha Allah that by the grace of Allah whatever it was that hurt you doesn't hurt anymore.

wow :o u guys are all sooo interesting - i had no idea.

well, i'm 21 female, live in Uk, but from a pakistani background. i'm a student at uni studying law and arabic - best move i ever made. at the time it was a bit depressing because i  was only accepted into 2 unis even though i had really good grades, the uni i  go to (soas) was  definitely not my first choice. but Allah swt guided me and  i met the most amazing sisters in my first year at uni (three yrs ago now) and my life changed completely. i feel that i have become a much better muslimah for their influences may Allah swt reward them.  also i have learnt sooooo much from all the brothers and sisters on this board may Allah swt reward all of u also :)

well, i used to visit the old message board, but didn't really post much until this new one was set up.

i love to read, cook (and eat ;) ), watch cricket (especially our pakistani team), and i do watch a little football (the real english version), although i only really prefer international matches. also watch rugby sometimes (not that sissy american football stuff where they all wear padding ;) cause my little bro plays it in school - if i watch it i know what he's talking about when he describes the game :)) i am also majorly addicted to cartoons (i know i know at my age ;) again thats down to my bro - who frankly at age 14 is a little old for cartoons also). i also love girly things like embroidery and making clothes n stuff.

don't know what i want to do - i thought become a lawyer - but i'm kind of sick of exams at the moment - i might become a civil servant Allah u 'aalim.  please make du'as for me that Allah swt guides me to the right decision.

fasaliyaaaaaah lol :) :) my mother still calls me attoooo (from 'attia) when i'm in trouble :(

Attia you are toooooo hilarious:):):) My mother is creative with her tones of "Maliha" when I'm in trouble..but i can always tell "Ooooppss...there i go again" :):):)

there is nothing in particular i wanna talk about...my personal "history" fades in comparison to the Muslim Ummah situation...i haven't gained enough clarity, to be able to fully articulate why I am mad??? one minute i am mad at "us" the next at "them"...the other I am questioning who the heck is "them" anywayz?
and not only that, being "born" into this deen, i have always been mad at how we never rise up to the ideals of what we claim to be Sacred and Honorable..I have seen too many women violated by their own Muslim brothers and sisters, and so when the media parades the misery of our women....I feel even more infuriated...or just hurt soooo deeply and painfully by every time i trusted the "wrong" source...but Allah is the restorer of all our Affairs, May He keep our faith intact (Amin)

I don't know....i guess i like keeping things on an  "ideas" level, cuz that's the only constructive way I know how to deal with issues....May Allah help us and guide and ease us in our affairs :-)

Amin.

Hajree, you think you know me....probably:):):) Is ya real name Hajree?

Assalam o Alaikom Wa Rahmatulla Wa Barakatuh

Well I think this thread is going to break all records of popularity since it's growing like anything. But it's damn interesting no doubt about it. I am 29 years old basically from Pakistan but working in U.A.E. for last five years. I am also a computer professional, I work as a Network Adminsitrator. I recently got married just last month.  My wife is still in Pakistan due to visa problem for Pakistanis over here after Sep 11 terrorist attacks.

I have been visiting jannah.org for last few years but I rarely post because I like listening than talking.

Ki - Nice to know any one from U.A.E. on this board I work in Dubai too although live in Sharjah. where do you live in Dubai ? If there is anyone else also on the board from U.A.E. ?

I never met anyone who I know online but I wish some day I might see some one in real life.
Well I think this thread is going to break all records of popularity since it's growing like anything.
The longest thread ever in the Madina used to be in the Ikhwan folder, called "sports anyone?" started by princess :)

After it reached the 200 posts mark (:o), the ikhwan folder crashed!  The entire folder was wiped out.

Some brothers believe till this day that it was all a conspiracy, to boost up the number of threads/posts in the Akhwat folder.  To this day, the Ikhwan folder has not recovered from the mishap :(
