Some tape & book recommendations

assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

From a recent conference i bought an awesome 8-tape set entitled "The complete Advice in Sincerity" dealing with the aspect of the inner muslim. Its a commentary by Sh. Abdullah Hakim Quick on a book entitled "al-Nasihah al-Kafiyah" by a famous African scholar named Ahmed Zarruq. In these tapes he essentially gives a commentary on the hadith of sincerity - sincerity to Allah, His Messenger, His Book, the general folk of the Muslims & their 'specalised' people/leaders.

My one criticism of it is that i think Sh. Abdullah could have covered more material in his lectures - he spent too much time re-capping what he'd gone over in the previous lectures.

Another set of tapes that i think is very good for people who have been practising for a while is a set of tapes on the hadeeth of al-ghuraba - the Strangers. This consists of about 10 lectures by Ali Timimi in which he discusses the hadeeth itself, the Saved group of Muslims, the victorious party of Muslims, the relationship between these two, commanding good & forbidding evil, patience, Jihad, and other topics.

The first set of tapes i think you can only order from South Africa, but if anyone is interested in buying the second set of tapes, i should be able to get a set for you.

I also like a book entitled "Chronicles of Dissent." Its a series of short interviews with Prof. Noam Chomsky in which he talks about the way the American Media works, historical engineering, the Israel-US relation  and the effect of US foreign policy. Its available from most good book shops. Mind you, since he is a non-muslim, he says some stuff which is totally unacceptable from the Islamic point of view, e.g. accommodation of a discussion into the legalisation of cannabis.

Salaam,

Chachi, are these books about general or specific topics?  Are they easy to obtain and accessible to Muslims who don't know as much about the deen as you do?
