What i saw....

I watched a movie tonight whose opening scene nearly made me laugh out loud in the cinema! But also, i must admit to a feeling of happiness afterwards.

The opening scene showed four jewish guys kitted out properly in Jewish garb: the black hats, the long black coats, curly sideburns, etc. pull a raid at a diamond dealer's shop. They walked in, jumped on the tables, pulled out big guns and started spraying bullets everywhere.

There was also a guy who pretended to be a Jew who was a cheater and a real unGodly person.

Of course this wasn't a big Hollywood film at all. It'd be interesting to find out why the director showed the Jews like this, even though he himself is a non-muslim.

I won't mention the name of the film as there were other bits in it which i don't think a Muslim should hear or see.

Assalamualakum --

I was just wondering why you wanted to laugh? If these were Muslims portrayed as such, we would be posting all these messages about it and gettin cair to write letters etc.... as we should. Realizing that muslims are often victimized in the western media, i am also proposing that anytime we see ANY group being victimized, we should empathetically shake our heads -- its not just a matter of Muslims being portrayed in a poor light, its ANY minority group.  We cant sit around complaining how muslims are always deemed as terrorists and then laugh at racial jokes concerning other groups.  Thats not consistent, and it shows that we are simply being defensive and not really seeing the big picture. Because in this movie we might laugh..... but the next movie might as well have Muslims in typical muslim "garb" and long beards, spraying bullets.. again. I dont see how this should instill a feeling of triumph in any regard..... sure, many times it might be a jewish person in the directors chair, portraying msulims as such..... but why stoop down to their level?? its immature, and its NOT islamic. our battle is to be fought on another forefront..... not stooping down to their level to make a bunch of ppl giggle in a dark theatre.

Assalamoalykum,

Kashif, I know the movie that you are talking about. I saw it in class when we were studying Judaism. The jews are not offended by the movie because people don't stereotype them as such people so it doesn't matter. People think, yeah well, so what? Every people has its bad apples. So you see, really, it was a victory for them, no defeat. And same thing with movies where catholic priests molest young boys.

I doubt it...

Sister Saleema,

Wa-alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah.

Forgive my pedanticism, but you cannot be referring to the same film as Brother Kashif saw, as the film has only *just* been released, and it has not reached outside of the UK yet. It is a British film.

I'd be interested to know the name of the film you saw in your class though.

Assalamoalykum,

Do I feel stupid! :)
Over here old movies come out on theaters for really cheap prices so I thought that's where Kashif must have seen it. I can't remember the name of the movie now. I will ask my teacher when I see her, I keep in touch with her.

This is really weird because the scene and the plot that he describes is exactly like the one in the movie that I saw. Maybe the brits copied?

Well here is a sure way to confirm whether you saw the same film as i did. Were the characters in your film named:
- Turkish
- Tommy
- 'Bullet-Tooth' Tony
- Bricktop
- Frankie Four Fingers
- Mickey the Gypsy Boxer

If so, perhaps we DID see the same movie *laugh*

Besides i'm not entirely convinced that you'd understand what they were saying. give this a try:
- 10 large
- blaggered

However, Se7en might be able to help you out.

Are you saying the Brits have run out of ideas? Hahahahaha.  So this is some British movie?  Ok, no wonder I haven't heard of it.

Kashif, those slang words went over my head.  Maybe you should put together a list and see how the rest of the blokes do. :)

Assalamoalykum,

Nope, don't know any british slang. All I remember clearly from the movie was some dumb guy who was a priest and a blond lady who couldn't act.
My teacher hasn't written back yet so I still don't know the name of the movie.

By the way, what do those words mean?
Se7en? Kashif?
