Assalamoalykum,

He was a great poet from what you can see. The dream of pakistan was his, he wrote about it and others carred it out and destroyed it. He was a very religious man.

Assalaamu alaikum,

Kathy, let me try to write a few words about Iqbal.

Muhammad Iqbal (1877-1938 ) was a poet and a philosopher in the pre-partition Indian subcontinent. His writings were spiritual and were directed towards the Muslims as a reminder. He advocated the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah, and criticized the corruption introduced in Islam by Hinduism and mysticism. In his later years he got involved in the movement for a separate homeland for Muslims in the subcontinent. He is regarded as the first person to propose this idea and he advocated it through his writings and speeches.

Iqbal is respectfully recognized as the "Poet of the East". He was also knighted (i.e. given the title Sir) in 1922.

The poem Complaint (Shikwa) was recited by him in 1909, while the Answer to the Plaint was presented four years later. These poems capture his sentiments and thoughts beautifully. These poems also contain historical references to the Muslim world at that time. Iqbal has written in Urdu, Persian, and English. His collection of lectures in English entitled "Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam" is a deep philosophical look at many basic concepts of Islam, and worth a read by all Muslims.

The following sites have an extended bio.

If you search the web I am sure you can find many more sites.

Iqbal always called himself the Brahmin Boy
because his grandfather had been a hindu priest who had been converted by a sufi sheikh, he grew up in a very knowledgable household

Iqbal was ..how can i say it iqbal!..he was so far ahead of us all...a dervish visited him when he was dying and asked him if there anything he could do for him meaning to set his mind at rest..and everybody noticed iqbals eyes become bright and he asked him a really deep islamic question..and the dervesh started crying because in that question itself he had exposed to the dervesh that he was so far beyond all thoughts of any doubts...

his vision was destroyed by liars cheats and thugs who turned his dreams into a blood sport.

Assalamoalykum,

Yes, mera khun ubalta hai, (my blood boils) when I think how corrupt people killed Iqbal's dream!

Allah will deal with them, they can get away with stuff in this world, but they will not escape the Justice of the Almighty!!

inshallah

wassalam
