Assalamualaikum wrt wbt

Well this is my first post on the new board. I have been an avid reader of posts on this board  for almost a year now. I used to post once in a while on the old one.

Alhamdulillah I find this an excellent site to unwind as well as learn something during the idle hours when I am stuck with my calculations, and that happens to be almost everyday (!).

I just wanted to add that Asim's posts on Nigeria compelled me to register and post as I grew up there as well. I did my O levels as well as A levels there as well, it's been 9 years since my family left that land of kind and humble people. BTW, exactly what part of Northern Nigeria were you in, Asim? We were in zaria (Kaduna state).

Salaam from 'down under'.

slm,

Welcome aboard, salaams2all. I'm glad my posts motivated you to join.

Wow, so you also grew up in Nigeria. It really is a small world! I lived in Bauchi. My brother went to university at Zaria so I have beem there several times. I started my education in Nigeria and left after O' levels.

Asallam Alaikum,
It is a small world! Salaams2all welcome! I am amazed that there are actually people that still speak well of Nigeria (with the recent economic/political problems). Where exactly did you live in Zaria? I live in Kaduna, but visit Zaria a lot. I'm looking foward to hearing about your experiences there.
Asim- I know this is starting to sound very scary, but I am a native of Bauchi state (the state itself, not the town).Allah works in wonderful ways doesn't He?
Okay, I'm starting to get too happy...I'll sign off now.
Wassalam,
Maryam

Assalamualaikum

& 'Sannu' to Br. Asim and Maryam

Akuay Lafiya? (ahh...that's about the only hausa I can recall, never really learnt it properly though, languages just don't seem to be my cup of tea...)

It is so heartwarming to talk about Nigeria, Alhamdulillah. Maryam, I lived in the Kongo campus of Ahmadu Bello Uni as my father worked there, it was very close to gelesu and not too far from tudun wada, sounds familiar? Attended the Staff School in Kongo campus for primary education and then later Demonstration Secondary school in Samaru.

There were heaps of Indians and Pakistanis in Zaria, most of my age group people have moved to study/work in USA, some back in India and Pakistan. Occassionally I get to hear about the whereabouts of some people here and there and it always brings back the sweet memories of the simple, happy carefree years (12 to be precise) we spent in Nigeria. I hope I can go back someday and see my old school, my old house, etc etc again.

Okay I'll stop here...

Wassalam.

Assalam Alaikum,
I definitely know all the places you are talking about. I  visited Zaria a few  weeks ago, and it has really become a Uni town. I have some relatives that live in Tudun Wada and Samaru.
Insha Allah you will enjoy  Jannah as much as we all do!

Assalamoalykum,

After all this talk about Nigeira I more than ever before want to visit. My father lived in Nigeria for at least 7 years I think. I had a friend from Nigeria who was a very good person. She and my dad would talk about Nigeria all the time and how nice it is over there.

I also had a teacher from Nigeria who is a very devoted Muslim and he would talk about Nigeria all the time too. Usually, someone else would bring up the subject. It does seem like a nice place to live for Muslims.

Wassalam

Assalaamu alaikum,

Wow, we are getting quite a Nigerian following on this board! Interesting, your father also lived in Nigeria.

Yes, when people who had lived in Nigeria meet the favoriate discussion topic is memories of those times. I for one will never forget the 11 years I spent there. There are practically tons of unforgetable memories from those times. Life there was unsophisticated, no tv, no telephone, or sophisticated man made distractions. Time was spent either reading or in outdoor activities close to nature.

Assalamualaikum wrt wbt

Maryam, nice to hear you know the places I grew up in. Zaria has become a uni town...interesting, I remember there was a lot of construction starting when we left, the flyover near the zaria-kaduna highway had just been completed.

Saleema, yes, you really shld visit Nigeria if you have the opportunity, insha Allah you will love the simple lifestyle people live there. I just can't forget the the humility of Nigerians. Alhamdulillah growing up there was a most wonderful experience.

Amazing how many people here have connections with Nigeria!

Wassalam,

salaams2all.
