Assalamu alaikum, Safiya, let me add to what Jannah said. You can delete your own post (by using the "Modify" feature - see Help for details). However, only admins (aka moderators) can delete threads. The reason for that is simply to give them more control over the board. I don't think, for example, that I should be able to delete the thread "ISNA - the good and the bad", even though I started the thread, because others (Asim, se7en, jannah) wrote some important things in there that should be available for everyone to read. The admins can delete anything, depending upon whether or not its content is appropriate. Wassalam. P.S. I'm not an admin here (alhamdulillah), even though I have 3 stars! Apparently some people are confused about that :) |

slm We are going to post in the FAQ that Arsalan is not an administrator, so don't bother him? ??? 3 stars are the maximum anyone can earn? |

slm There must be a way to list who the top 10 posters are to the board. It would be interesting to see who the real addicts are. :) |

Assalamu alaikum, I would rather be a jannah.org addict than a "x-files" addict or "irc" addict or "insert-any-computer-game-here" addict!!! This messageboard rocks, and that is the truth! (Jannah, you can pay me by check :)) Hey bhaloo ... you got 4 stars!!! I guess that answers your question :) Wassalam. |

you know what's weird is that we set up categories like Madina Newbie for guests then you're a Madina Citizen then after 50 posts Madina Geek and after 100 posts Madina Mujahid dunno why it's not kicking in, maybe cause we disabled the automatic letting guests posts thing i think i'll do it manually... if you have more than 100 posts you're a Madina Geek... if you have more than 200 you're a Madina Mujahid... what else anyone else have any cool names? |

Assalamu alaikum, So I see that the feature is now working. I'm a "Madina Mujahid"! Woo-hoo! What'll be the next level? Too bad the admins can't "ascend the ladder." But hey, I guess they're already at the top :) I think you should make the titles go with the number of stars though, not the number of posts. So, 1 star = Madina Citizen; 2 stars = Madina Geek; 3 stars = Madina Mujahid; 4 stars = ??? (whatever); etc. Wassalamu alaikum. |

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)
murabit is traveler or something? i forget what br abdulbasir said
I was reading a Tafsir about about this the other day "Murabit" "One who stays in the way of Allah" [swt] Apparently it can be applied to those who guard Islamic frontiers in the way of Allah [swt] or to those who offer salah with Jama'ah and then wait for the next salah. Hmm..can't make my mind up at the moment though |
"Murabit" "One who stays in the way of Allah" Apparently it can be applied to those who guard Islamic frontiers in the way of Allah or to those who offer salah with Jama'ah and then wait for the next salah.
murabit- lit. "one who is garrisoned" "bound ones"...but the term took on other connotations...just to add to what ;-) said, murabit is not really a traveller, the term was also applied to ppl on the roads spreading the word of Islam...and just to add to the frontiers thing, murabit was somewhat distorted into marabout. That term should sound familiar, as it refers to the same Marabouts who were protectors of the Islamic frontiers in Muslim Africa.. Originally these murabitun were actually "garrisoned" in ribats in remote areas protecting the Islamic frontiers. They were not just soliders, but served in both religious as well as military capacities. The people living in the ribat had to have certain religious qualifications, and were learned jurists of fiqh, or qaris, or scholars of hadith, and some were ascetics. In western Africa, specifically, these propagators and defenders of Islam became know as the Murabitun, who took power in Africa and Spain, and this term was severely Anglicized into the well known Almoravids. The term began to take on other connotations as a result and lose its original military meaning, so every person giving daw'ah who had students of daw'ah became known as murabit. It even caught on with the Sufis who used the term to denote preachers calling for the formation of the tariqas, the religous orders. [slm] |
