as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

Wow jannah, it's great how you fit so many details into that one sentence :)

InshaAllah the class on Tuesday is going to be a continuation of the Aqeedah class from last year.  You can get college credit for it, and there'll be grading and exams like last year.  If you were in the younger sisters/brothers class, you need to get notes from the Aqeedah class people!

I thought it was 7:30 to 9:30??

Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 will be a Fiqh class, focusing especially on fiqh dealing with being a Muslim minority in a majority non-Muslim state.

Sundays from 11 to 3 will be Qur'an class for the first hour, and then a class on Tazkiyatun Nafs.

There'll be monthly seminars too, inshaAllah.

Classes begin next week, so buy a notebook! (a big one!!:))

Assalamu alaikum,

It's called a "run-on" statement :)

How in the world can you get university credit for an aqeedah class which is not even part of the university curriculum?  Care to explain?  Also, will the class be held in the Masjid or campus?

Wassalam.

The class is in the mosque, you can get university credit for it if you fill out the proper papers in your university that state that this course could not be taken at the university but was available somewhere else, br mokhtar is an accredited univ professor. you may also get credit if you use it for independent study in certain areas.

Last semester a student took the class from NYC, he called in for the hour of the class and we hooked him up to a speaker phone. If there was a way I could broadcast it via web I'd look into it...

Its possible you could record the sessions on tape and then encode them in real audio and host them.  I'm sure many people would benifit from this, I know I DEFINITELY would.

Hmm...how do you go from audio tape to real player format?  Is it a long process?

If you have the setup it's easy

you have a line in from your stereo you hit play and then you download real producer from real networks and hit record on that, the problem is i'd have to all mess around with my stereo setup and all which isn't a pretty sight

and do you think anyone would really listen to all those hours and hours of lectures ? i mean one lecture like the isna one ok... but 30 hours of it??

Assalaamu alaikum,

If it is out there on the web one might listen to it. However, it is hard to be committed to a voluntary learning program over the net that requires no tests and exams.

A computer science professor here does live broadcasts of his classes on the web. One can also interact with the professor by sending instant messages for questions. But, without any commitment on the part of the listener the learning is usually not much. I have tried this because it is really hard to get into his classes, but found out that it is hard to get motivated.

Wasalaam.

walaikum salaam wrt,

i think you are right asim...
i don't think i'll record the classes, b/c it's just alot of effort for alllooot of hours and i think it would be too difficult to listen to them all, but inshallah when there are special seminars or speeches or other guest speakers even i will try to record them for y'all
