Museum Display- Give me your Ideas!

As salaamu alaykum.

Every year we (the Muslims) set up a diplay in our local  city museum deplicting the month of Ramadan.

My ideas are getting stale- and you guys are good!

In the past our display has included the posters of " Discovering Islam" a table setting for breaking fast, a sitting spot for reading Quran, a prayer rug, and various items, like hadith, prayer beads, compass, etc....

The museum wants a display that will teach the community about different religions and their different holidays and celebrations. So it doesn't have to be about just the month of Ramadan- I don't think!

Give me your ideas- suggestions- go wild! Brain storming is the best!

May Allah swt reward you!

We once set up a display in the library for Islam Awareness Week. We made little posters that covered each of the 5 pillars of Islam that also dispelled some common misconceptions and then we included some really beautiful pictures of like makkah, afghanistan and some other places. Then we had the requisite prayer rugs, beads, art stuff and some books in there with interesting titles like "Empowering Muslim Women's Rights", and "Muslim-Christian dialogue", a page of the Quran open etc. It was very successful because alot of people stopped to browse it and emailed the contact number on there to find out where they could get the books or learn more...

Well you could have a shadow and light display with some islamic naats eg yusuf islams , the ones with the kids playing in the background
basically explain what the geometrical displays displays in islamic architecture represent eg the two squares crossing each other..

slm.
ok ok like this idea. Islamically how do you think we can portray the kids?
Manequins- ok?
cardboard  figure cutouts?
I had thought about a display being multi -cultural to counter the myth that all Muslims are Arabs. I wanted to use Eid outfits off all cultures...
How can I do this?
The space they give us is about 8x10

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

From my experience what people are so surprised by is that Islam is vibrant, beautiful and diverse.  Bringing things in from different cultures is excellent, but make sure you also talk about how Muslim holidays are celebrated in the states by *american* *muslims* who are following the fastest growing religion in the United States.

Maybe a photo collage would be cool, I'm sure there are plenty of places you can find some cool images (www.jannah.org/slideshow ah hem, where I make an exclusive appearance)

Misbah and prayer rugs are cool, but they bring that foreign element into Islam.  Maybe get some local youth in your area to help you out.  They'll prolly have some cool ideas.

One thing that was done in our area was an Islamic art gallery, with classic art as well as new computer manipulated islamic calligraphy.

Asalaamu aleikoum

Br. Chachi, I did not mean to insult you.  Perhaps you meant your comment tongue in cheek.  If, however, you do feel insulted I unreservedly apologise and ask for your forgiveness (that's not me being sarky: I didn't mean to cause upset).  All I meant was to highlight to you the territorial nature of intellectual property rights in general.  I am an English lawyer and therefore only give out advice on English law; my comment was inended as a similar counsel for you.

Insha' Allah I will respond to your post on IPR another day: today I have other things to see to.

Salaam

Haaris tongue in cheek bro! just kidding
reminds me of when we did this article for our magazine. A brother went overboard in an article he submitted , so we put those bomb and dynamite images all around the border...he truly lost it..he was like ' Akhi's you have really made me angry..' *lol* anyway he got the point

Incidentally the question posed was about the sister borrowing articles from an islamic site, thus i phought it a bit 'not cricket' *s* shall we say to worry about english law being used.
I 'm pretty sure the siblings at the salaafi site
wouldn't want to sue a muslim in the english courts for propagating islam!
However i agree that if the site is based in america or england and the site is non-muslim ip law issues can arise, whether the concept of fair-dealing in terms of american alw arises is a question of conflict of law issues

                 jazakalla
and once again it was tongue in cheek!
