The Veil

I love this song:

The Veil
(From the Sound Vision documentary Hijab: An Act of
                      Faith)

They say, "Oh, poor girl, you’re so beautiful you know
It’s a shame that you cover up your beauty so."
She just smiles and graciously responds reassuringly,
"This beauty that I have is just one simple part of me.
This body that I have, no stranger has the right to see.
These long clothes, this shawl I wear, ensure my
                      modesty.
Faith is more essential than fashion, wouldn’t you
                      agree?"
                      This hijab,
                      This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
For all the world to see.
A simple cloth, to protect her dignity.
So lift the veil from your heart to see the heart of purity.

They tell her, "Girl, don’t you know this is the West and
                      you are free?
You don’t need to be oppressed, ashamed of your
                      femininity."
She just shakes her head and she speaks so assuredly,
"See the bill-boards and the magazines that line the
                      check-out aisles,
with their phony painted faces and their air-brushed
                      smiles?
Well their sheer clothes and low cut gowns they are
                      really not for me.
You call it freedom, I call it anarchy."
                      This hijab,
                      This mark of piety,
Is an act of faith, a symbol,
For all the world to see.
A simple cloth, to protect her dignity.
So lift the veil from your heart to see the heart of purity.
Lift the veil from your heart and seek the heart of purity.

Assalaamu alaikum.

The tape is titled 'The Road To Madhina'

The latest tape released by Dawud is 'Sunshine, Dust and the Messenger of Allah (saw)'

All you guys *must* hear the nasheeds from his latest tape.

My favourite track is 'Why are the Drums so Silent'. It has a very deeeeeep message.

Also 'Wisdom and Tea' was very good and very heart rendering.

Wassalaam.

Assalamu alaikum,

Are any of these songs available on the internet in audio format?

Assalaamu alaikum warahamtullahi wabarakatuhu.

>Are any of these songs available on the internet

Yes. Just go to www.radioislam.com
Then click on 'Song Streams' and you will be taken to a page with all the nasheeds on.

You can only listen to excerpts of the latest release by Dawud listed on the page. But if you click on 'World Premier' you will be able to listen to an interview with Dawud. Within the interview they play a couple of the nasheeds in full length, particularly the ones I mentioned in the previous post. I would recommend strongly that you listen to the interview as well to get a greater understanding behind the lyrics in his nasheeds. In order to play the nasheeds you will need Real-Player, which if you haven't got you can download it for free from the Real-Player web site.

Hope that the above information helps and I also hope that everyone enjoys the nasheeds.

Wassalaam.

I also liked why are the drums so silent now, and the sky is Blue like Blue bubgle gum,
They do have deep meanings, and this second one , most of the lyrics are from a kid and it sounds so innocent knowing that. Mashaillah, and alhamdurillah nowadays there is an english alternative from music.
