| written last May... So there I was in Miami by Huma Ahmad So there I was in Miami. Will Smith's song kept going through my head on the plane. "I'm going to Miami. I'm going to Miami. Bienvenito a Miami. And something about.."100,000 dollar cars, everyone's got em..". Not that I listen to Will Smith or anything, but it was just going through my head. When we landed in Miami, I thanked Allah again for having a good flight. Something to really be thankful about since I found out later my co-worker's plane was actually on fire! I got in a blue super shuttle and headed off to my hotel. The fascinating thing about the houses in Miami is that they are in the most interesting shades of pastel. We passed hundreds of pink, off white, yellow, eggshell blue, and even orangish homes of all different architectural types. I wondered what the neighbors would think if I bought some pink paint for our house in New York. Outside of all of the houses were palm trees and the most amazing, strange types of vegetation I'd ever seen. Huge hot pink flowering trees. Palm trees of all different sizes, leaning this way and that. Hundreds of vines climbing all over the place. It was like taking all the potted plants in my house planting them out front and leaving them to grow continuously for 40 years of rain. I contemplated buying a palm tree for my newly painted pink house. Our company seems to believe no expense should be spared for our customers so our business conference was located at one of the nicest if not THE nicest hotel in Bal Harbour, a very upscale area 15 minutes from downtown Miami. The many fountains and bellhops gave away what type of hotel it really was. The architecture inside was all rounded stairways, marbles and flowers. What I liked the most about the hotel was that each room came with a balcony. Mine overlooked the landscaped pool area next to the ocean. And what a view it was! As I found out later, the $12 million dollar landscaped pool area consisted of intertwining swimming pools, hot tubs, slides, waterfalls and ponds full of huge foot-long goldfish. At the end of the landscaped area was a gate leading to the actual ocean. The beach was of course full of semi-naked (might as well be naked) people, but there were other areas that were more deserted where you could sit and watch the waves or collect sea shells. After 4 days at the conference I was starting to think that Miami was actually an incredible place. I even met some other nice Muslim sisters in Miami who took me around to see Bayside this big outside mall/tourist type area and to the Rainforest cafe in the Aventura Mall. The cafe had rainstorms inside every 15 minutes, complete with moving animals and live tropical acquariums throughout. The weather although hot at times seemed nice and tropical. Even with the heat, what would be scandalous even in New York (lack of clothing on most of the people) was normal in Miami. Still Miami seemed like a fun city with alot to offer. On the second to last night there, I walked out to the beach at night and walked through the waves at the edge. It was such a surreal feeling like I was in a virtual reality game. I thought about what would happen if some of my family members in India were to ever visit this place. They would seriously think they were in Jannah. Having seen nothing like this I had no doubt they would think it was Jannah. The thought made me slightly sick, here was 12 million dollars worth of Kaffir Jannah on earth while people all over the world live in conditions that they do praying that they can one day get to a place like this. Well I say let the Kaffirs have their Dunya, the real Jannah is incomparable. Those that want it now are welcome to it. 8/td> |

| slm Sounds a little like California, but we have much nicer weather here. :) That was a nice review. I might have to go to Orlando in the first week of October on business, never been there before. |
