Prayer
Arsalan

Assalamu alaikum,

I was called by a representative of the Bahai Club yesterday and an interesting offer was made.  They are going to hold an interfaith program where they want representatives from various religious organizatiosn to come and make a prayer, in their own style.  They want MSA to be a part of it.

I guess you guys can understand my dilemma.  There are basically 3 options that I can think of.

1. I say "sorry, i don't think we can contribute to this program" and get out.  The reason I would do this is I really see no chance of me being able to "tell" anyone anything about Islam.  It's a prayer session, not a lecture or talk.

2. I go there and make a supplication in front of the people - an Islamic supplication (a du'aa).  The content of the supplication is still up in the air, but it'll have to be well thought out I think.

3. I go there and pray 2 rak'ahs in front of the people, along with a bunch of brothers (and sisters) that I take along with me!  If they let me, I can explain to the people what I just did and what was recited, etc.

Any suggestions??  Also, does anybody happen to know the content of the prayers that were said at the democratic and republican conventions by the Muslims?  What about the prayer that was said by Siraj Wahhaj at the opening of a Congress session a few years ago?

JazakAllahu khairan.

Wassalamu alaikum.

walaikum salaam wrt,

that's interesting arsalan... i would take the opportunity for dawah and go.. maybe mention a few words about what islam is real quick and how prayer is important to muslims and then make dua. i kind of feel weird about doing prayer on command in front of them as a display, but maybe if the time for maghrib or something is coming up you can mention that you will be praying in a little while in the room next door or in that corner later or something...

or hey maybe even better just demostrate what the prayer is, make someone do the movements like you would do for a class and then just have someone recite fatiha beautifully and do the meanings etc..

but hey a dawah opportunity is a dawah opportunity grab it with both hands...

Yeah, I say you go for the dawah opportunity.  You might want to know a little about the Bahai faith before going there though, in case you are asked some questions.
