"Front Row"

     Imagine the following scenario.
We are standing in line for the past two hours to ride the ‘Raptor’, one of the world’s tallest, fastest, steepest, inverted  rollercoasters. The temperature is 98 degress (and rising), yet we don’t mind for a two minute thrill we are about to experience. Some of us may wait an additional thirty minutes to ride in the front row. While reaching closer and closer to the ‘Raptor’ we hear the speaker announce “ welcome to the ‘Raptor’,a 2.16 second ride, 57 mph, 3,790 ft track length, with six upside down turns: two inverted corkscrews, a zero gravity roll, one vertical loop, two cobra rolls.” We reach there. Some of us settle for seats wherever we can find, others won’t settle for anything less than the front row. We take a seat on the ski lift-like floorless seats. We buckle up. A person in a t-shirt and cap checks to see if all are buckled properly. We feel assured that we are safe. We begin moving. Slowly, we are ascended 137 ft. Rapidly, we hit a vertical drop and descend 119 ft. We scream. Some of us with excitement, others with fear. We are swirling upside down. Our heads are banging against the supports that surround us. Suddenly, we come to a complete stop. The two minutes have ended. Dazingly, we unbuckle and leave the tracks.
Now let’s imagine the role a Muslim plays in life. We are in line for Jannah, a place where the bounties are never ending, and life is eternal. Every minute, we come a step closer, or a step further away. Are we willing to sacrifice an additional thirty minutes for Jannatul Fradaus, the Jannah that Allah (SWT) created with His own hands? The want and the effort to ride front row may involve overcoming many obstacles, especially in this heat of antagonistic views of Western Society.
Living in such a country as the Unites States, where it is simpler to assimilate to the Western Society, we must not rest aside our Islamic beliefs and actions to attain materialistic goals. “Allah(SWT)  does not accept belief, if it is not expressed in deeds, and does not accept deeds, if they do not conform belief.”
This life is ephemeral. The two minutes have begun. The length of our ride and when it will end only Allah(SWT) knows. We have the choice to decide what row we want to be in. Wherever we may sit, the ride will be bumpy. There exists little consistency in this fascinating ride which brings us much uncertainty as to whether the next turn will bring us peace, happiness, or even sadness. Our minds will wonder. Our Iman will fluctuate. At the end, we should try our best to transcend all this, and remain on track.
Remember(reminding myself before others) life is what we make it to be. Only we can get ourselves on the front row seats.
