Bush or Gore?

Assalamu Alaikum,

Simple question:

Gore or Bush?

Ok, my intention is not for this to become a discussion on whether or not voting is allowed.  Because the fact is, whether WE vote or not..SOMEONE will be elected president.  And more than likely, it will be one of the aforementioned men.  So my question is basically: who do you all think would be more beneficial to the Muslim society?  Do you think that a Jew in the Vice presidency is threatening?  Do you think Bush has the brains to run a country? Do Republicans more closely follow our ideals?  Is the democratic stance on foreign policy enough to outweigh our differences in issues? (ie-abortion, etc).  Just curious...

Take Care everyone,

Wassalam,
Nazia

Did you try out that poll thing I posted in the 1st forum, Ummah news a week or two back?  Based on your views it tells you which candidate matches them.  Gore was at the bottom of the list on mine, so I guess that means Bush was who I should choose according to that.

Try it out and see.

Assalamu alaikum,

ISNA and AMC seem to be promoting the Democrats more because of their foreign policy (as well as their policy regarding minorities in the US).  At least that's the impression I got at the convention (remember the two democratic congressmen and their speeches?)

AMJerusalem is going all out and saying don't vote for Gore (and Lieberman).  I've heard similar talk from other Muslim organizations.

The situation is very confusing really!  Once again, it goes back to the need of Muslims to become organized and ONE voice in this country.  I'm more confused than ever!  It doesn't matter for me, because I'm not a citizen yet.  But I feel bad for Muslim citizens out there who're confused like myself.  And I can only hope that things are more clear cut next time when I am able to vote.

Wassalamu alaikum.

Assalamu Alaikum,
It's definitely a strange choice.  I mean, I was personally for John McCain all the way.  But apparently the rest of the country was not. So after it was just Gore and Bush, I thought I would vote for Gore.  THEN he went and picked Leiberman as his running mate.  Leiberman seems like a man of high morals and all, but the scary thing about having a Jew in the vice presidency is that he's next in line for presidency!  I don't know.  The brother mentioned that at ISNA, there seemed to be a Democratic following.  But I'm wondering is anyone has heard any other opinions.  Are the majority of voting Muslims really on the Democratic band wagon?

Has the message board already had this conversation?  If so, I'm sorry, like I said I'm new.  Ok well, take care,
wassalam

Assalmoalykkum,

I was with MacCain too. And Nazia, Liberman does not have morals. He was one of the senators who pushed for the abortion bill where you can abort the baby upto 6-7 months.

Do a serch on his voting record in Congress and I'm sure you will change your mind about Liberman.

After the Oklahoma bombing, he is the one who pushed for the immigration law designed to keep Muslims at bay actually he is the one who came up with it. He is also a supporter of the Secret Evidence bill.

I like the Republican Party better because more of their ideologies are similar to ours, (Muslims). If Bush gets elected he will sign the way for parochial schools to get governmental funds, inshallah. Democrats are not for that. Muslim schools are badly funded, imagine how much money will pour in when the government funds parochial schools. Our children will grow up in a good environment and with good education.

How about the green party?  To me they're closer to Muslim ideals than anyone, PLUS they're against the constant bombing of Iraq.  If everyone who thought they'd be throwing away their vote by voting green actually voted, it would really make a difference!

Green party?  Who are they? ???  The way the electoral college is setup voting for a 3rd party candidate is not going to get them in office, unfortunately. :(

Assalamoalykum,

Bhaloo is right. if you are not on the tv screen, journalists hunting after you, you will never make it to any government position.
