help with real audio

Assalamu alaikum,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.  Hope someone can offer technical advice here.

So, what do I do to be able to use real audio player with a Sun workstation (SunOS 5.7). I downloaded the free version from their site and now I'm kinda lost as to how to use it to play quran recitation files.  Help please!

Jazakum allahu khairan

Assalaamu alaikum,

This is a tough one. My advice is get your system admin to set it up for you.

Or if you want to do it yourself, www.real.com has some faqs for setting up realplayer to work with Netscape. Essentially you will have to add MIME type entries for real multimedia formats. I have done this for Linux, and it should be similar in SunOS.

I am assuming you have installed the realplayer (i.e. it works when you type realplay at the command line).

Well, never mind. Find someone from tech support to do it.

Wasalaam.

hmm i'd ditto br asim's message, on our sun boxes everything ran off the network so if you wanted netscape or real audio it would have to be installed on the network...

slm,

Jazakum allahu khair to Asim and Jannah. I did figure it out inadvetedly, mind you.  It was just that when I installed realplayer first time I put it in a different directory than the default one. Nothing worked until I put the executable in the default path.

So problem solved and I can listen to the beautiful qur'an recitations while gawking at the monitor trying to make sense of my confusing NMR spectra :o

wassalam

Assalaamu alaikum,

Great, setting up sofware on Unix machines can be tricky.

What is a NMR spectra?

Assalamu alaikum,

NMR spectroscopy stands for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy.  It is a technique used by chemists to determine the structure of molecules.  Basically, the spectra (graphs) tell you the number and types of atoms present in that molecule (how many hydrogens, how many deuteriums, how many C-13, how many C-12, etc).

If you're more interested, take an organic chemistry course!  I would higly advise against it though :)  Pretty torturing course!

Wassalamu alaikum.

Interesting! I took organic chemistry in high school (Pakistan) but we did not do any NMRs. Chemistry is fascinating but unfortunately I never did well in it :) So I guess you know your IUPAC names of compounds pretty well!!! I was never able to master that!

What are C-12, C-13? Are these isotopes of carbon. Well, I guess this is not appropriate for this board.

Wasalaam.

Yes.

slm,

U can see I'm behind in reading the posts. But thank you to brother Arsalan for explaining NMR.

I thought of explaining it some more, but I think that would be a real a yawner :-)

Okay now, more NMR spectra to be looked at.
