Assalam-u-Alaikum,

I must say that the International House of Kabob is probably the only place thats not doing what its supposed to be doing... at least not completely

Where are all the reviews?!  I'm sure many of you must have read many good (and bad) books so why not share your experiences with us about that book.  Why did you like it?  Is it worth buying and reading through considering that other book is also on sale?  No doubt tapes also come under this category.

So guys, lets start putting up a good bunch of reviews, okay?

Assalamu alaikum,

Good idea!  I'll start with this book:

Even Angels Ask - by Jeffrey Lang; a great book.  I'm not finished with it yet, but I've read enough to realize that it's a great book.  A must for every Muslim da'ee living in the United States, and a perfect gift for anyone thinking about Islam - especially if he's coming from an atheist or christian background.

Yes, its an excellent book Arsalan, I didn't read the whole book, just some chapters here and there.

What I want to know are what are some new books that have just been released in the last 6 months or year that would be really good.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

man what a perfect time to advertise my book rec's page...

I just recently read Ibn Jawzee's Talbees Iblees, The Devil's Deceit, translated by Abu Ameena Bilal Phillips.  You need to know about the development of the shia and other sects before you look at that.  The Weakening of Faith - It's Symptoms, Causes and Cure by Mohammad Saleh Al-Munajjid is ok.  I'm going to start reading Dieseases of the Heart and their Cures by Ibn Taymeeyah tonight inshaAllah.

What would I recommend that I've read recently?  These phatty lil booklets published by Zaytuna Institute, "Strangers in Our Homes: TV and Our Childrens Minds", and " Depending on Allah".

Even Angels Ask is excellent, that's like a guide to how to give daawah.  Actually hearing him speak was really strange for me.

Don't call me bookish!!!

I've just finished reading "The Evolution Deceit" by Harun Yahya.  An excellent read, not so much for what the author (a pseudonym, I understand, although I don't understand why) himself says as for the way in which he chips away at the idea of evolution.  It really shows how the theory (and it only ever was a "theory", not a law) of evolution has been accepted unquestioningly by the entire Western society, despite having no proof to back up the conclusions drawn from it.  I used to think that I was irreligious before I became Muslim: now I'm not sure I was.  I'm beginning to think that I had unconsciously adopted materialism as my religion.  Alhamdullilah now I know better.

Assalam-u-Alaikum,

Please tell me what the book "Even Angels Ask" is about and the name of the Publisher.

For me, the best Seerah book in my opinion would be Ar-Raheeq Al Makhtoom (The Sealed Nectar) by Safi-ur-Rahman Al-Mubarakpuri.  I'm not saying this just coz its the only Seerah book I've read, but the amount of information and detail he gives is great.  The book is published by Dar-us-Salam. It was awarded first prize by the Muslim Word League for the best biography of the Prophet (SAW) in 1399 H/1979 CE.

Other books include one which I am currently reading entitled "Tawassul-Its types and its rulings" by Sheikh Al-Albaanee.  Of the Shaikh's typical quality.  Very clear and easy to understand even a by a person who knows literally nothing of the subject matter like me.

Wassalam-u-Alaikum

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

Some Books that Rock
(according to se7en)

- The Autobiography of Malcolm X
as told to Alex Haley

A Spike Lee joint doesn't do this man or his life justice.  r e a d   t h e   b o o k.  Wonder about how someone who with no more than sincerity in faith and a sharp tongue rocked the very foundations of American society.  Reflect about the evolution of this man from some petty house thief to one of the most feared men in the world.  Find out about the Muslim who scared the chief of NYC police so much he said, "No one man should have that much power."

- Road to Mecca
Muhammad Asad

Jannah can cover this one.

- The Memory of Hands
Resham Baig

Wow, fiction written by a Muslim about Muslims?  Cool.

- Agenda for Changing Our Condition
packet type thing by Hamza Yusuf

Hamza Yusuf's da man.  If you actually *do* the stuff he suggests, we might actually change our condition.

- The Beauty of the Righteous and the Ranks of the Elite
Abu Na'im Al-Asfahani, translated by Muhammad al-Akili

I love this book.  Absolutely beautiful, mashaAllah.

- Return of The Pharoah
Zainab al-Ghazali

- Tafseer Surah al-Hujjurat: A Commentary on the 49th Chapter of the Quran
Abu Ameena Bilal Phillips

- Purification of the Soul
compiled from the works of Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya and Abu Hamid al-Ghazali

and and and...

who else has some good ones?
