I was wondering why you started this thread until I saw the other thread where Saleema and Se7en had problems and were falling and slipping on the stairs.

Just so they don't feel too embarassed I will list some of my embarassing moments.

Embarassing moment #1
---------------------
Once I was getting some gas at the gas station, and I had the pump in my car, and when it was done I proceeded to drive off with the gas pump still in my car, I felt something hit the ground and I stopped the car to see the gas pump had landed on the ground.  The gas attendant came running and grabbed the pump out of my hand and looked at it to see if it was damaged.  I said "Sorry" but he seemed to ignore me and put the pump away and I drove away.  heheheheh. :)

Hmmm, my other embarassing moments I will save for another time, until some others speak here. :)

The sad thing is that I have a whole bunch of embarassing stories just about *gas stations*!!!

Ok so once after my friend first got her license we were driving in her car and we noticed that it was on E. So she says "do you know how to put in gas", i was like 'i don't even have my license yet, nope, do you know how?' "nope"
so we pulled in and put the pump in the car and pushed the thing but nothing happenned, then the attendant guy buzzed and said "ladies, push the lever down first", so we did, nothing happenned... then after a minute we pulled it out and all of a sudden it started spilling gas all over the place!!! suffice it to say we got in the car and ran away!

then one time a whole bunch of sisters decided to drive down to the pa msa ez conference, so of course they have the worse directions and we can't figure out how to make the last few turns to get to the place, so we stop at this gas station in the middle of hickville headquaters and to our amazement the guy is a real desi/arab with a heavy accent, so of course we were elated since he might actually have some knowledge of where the Islamic foundation was. Of course he didn't and after we kept asking him about streets right next to the gas station and he had no idea about them, he finally got frustrated and said 'take I-40 and just gooooooooooooo, just gooooooooo '

so we left...of course those ended up being the wrong directions :)

ok and ever drive a car for the first time and pull up the wrong way to get gas...man that's embarassing getting out and in again.. one woman at work was so hysterical she said she did this three times and all the gas station attendants came out to watch her!!

About pumping gas, they have instructions at the pump, its usually 3 things like, take out the nozzle, but it in, turn on the lever.  Wow, that must have been real embarassing spilling gas everywhere and causing a big mess and running away only to have the poor gas attendant clean it up.

Going the wrong way at the pump? heheheh, I admit I have done that a few times, and a few times I did it on purpose because the line was too long on the other side, and the nozzle was able to reach.  So its not really a problem.

Whenever driving somewhere, so you don't get lost, take a map, those help out bunches and look it up on the internet before going.

Some guys actually did worse?  What did they do?

Embarassing moment #2

I was in a hurry one day and went to a fast food restaurant to grab something.  I placed an order at the drive thru and proceeded to the first window to give my change to the cashier, I was then supposed to go to the 2nd window and pick up my food, but I was so preoccupied with something else I just drove through the drive-thru and headed back to work.

When I got to the traffic light I said, wait a second something is missing hear, I'm missing a few dollars and I have no food. :(   So I turned around and went back to the fast food place and went inside and spoke to someone working there.

He said, "OH! So you're the guy that did the drive-by."  Everyone working in the restaurant, about 20 people stopped, looked at me and smiled, and he handed me my food.  Yes, it was embarassing. :)

Salam,

Here's something really humiliating! This happened in Pakistan. I was crossing a street and they were rebuilding the road. Well, I'm walking along thinking of what a nice morning it was and splat! I fall into the gutter!!!!!!!!!

Yes, THE GUTTTER WHERE ALL THE NASTY STUFF GOES. Fortunaetly I didn't fall in all the way, just up to my knees. I pulled myself out and went home biting back tears as the people in the street(mainly stupid punks, i.e. guys) laughed at me.

Can you believe that, no one even offered to help! For the rest of the week I was too humiliated to go outside.

I'm a non-member and I love this message board. But since I read the board once in a while-I'm not registering. Anywho, I got two embarrassing stories:
One time in fourth grade I was sitting at my desk and I dropped a piece of paper,I bent over to get it and I let out a HUGE fart. Everyone was laughing.Sigh, kids are so cruel!!
Another time in 6th. grade, every Friday our class goes down to the libary class to read to the Kindergarden class. I was sitting down, reading to this girl and it was time to finish up and go. As I was getting up,I pulled myself up on a small shelf and THAT SHELF CAME CRASHING DOWN. The embarrassment!

At my age I have racked up an embarrassing moment or two.  Here is one:

I was in the middle of getting laundry ready.

My husband called and said he was bringing home a brother for dinner. He asked he to make something nice. Which is code for a feast! I had two hours.

I ran around like a chicken with it's head cut off! Cooking, dusting, vacuming. Humdil Allah- by time they arrived a nice dinner was ready.

When it was time for prayer the guest( a college kid) went to make wudu. I was in the other room and I thought it was strange that he was in the bathroom and I never heard him turn on the water.

As the men began to pray ( my husband is strict about purduh, humdil Allah) I went into the bathroom, to make wudu.

Imagine my horror to see and remember
my "dainties" were soaking in the sink.....

May Allah swt reward this brother for never saying anything- and having to do his prayers all over again at home!

Assalamu alaikum,

I think Allah has been very kind to me and has saved me from any major embarassing moments. Alahamdulillah!

But there is at least one that I can remember.  It was a nightmare of any singer.

I was incharge of entertainment at this brother's marriage, and I was to sing one of the songs (nasheed).  We don't use any sort of music here for various reasons.

Anyway.  The marriage ceremony was taking place on campus, and the Indian Student Association was having some party of their own in the adjacent room.  There was orchestra in there, and they were being loud.

I got up to the microphone at my turn.  The crowd was silent.  Before I began, I heard the song that was being played in the adjacent room.  The song was familiar!  Very familiar!  I used to be a big Hindi movie/Hindi song addict in my O.J. (old jahiliyyah) days.

I started to sing, but I could not concentrate.  The orchestra was loud.  I was nervous.  The nasheed I was trying to sing was difficult and slow.  There was no drums at my disposal.  No beats ... except the beat of the Indian song that was coming into my ear and penetrating my head!

I messed up the tune ... bad!  I tried to recover quickly, and there it happened.  My voice cracked - very noticably.  It was sooo embarassing.

I finished the nasheed somehow.  It was the most impassionate singing I have ever done in my life!  I couldn't wait for it to end so I could head out the door!

I've never tried to sing that nasheed again in public.  And I don't intend to either!

This is not jsut embarrassing but also a lesson from Allah.

When I had been Muslim for a few months I was in the car with a friend and decided to jump out at the red light and run to the ATM and he would find a parking space. Well this was what I got for not pinning my hijab under my chin. I jumped out and my hijab was trailing behind me and got caught in the door. Of course I didn't notice because I was in a rush and I went to run accross the street and      *yikes* my hijab was still in the door!!!! I turned around and saw it hanging from the door and put  my hands on my head and was like OH MY GOODNESS!!!! SO i opened the door jumped back in the car and put my scarf back on. I was laughing at my stupididty and I was pretty red considering I am brown skinned! The brohter (who I was panning on marrying at the time) was like girl you need to be more careful and SLOW DOWN!!!! I was sooooo embarrassed! Thank Allah my hair was not a mess!!!
Ok I'll save the next one for a little bit later!!
Salaam, Aminah

I think this is really the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me.  My best friend and I are both space buffs, so on Saturday we went to see the Planetarium show at the museum.  I sat in the front row on the aisle, and placed my backpack on the floor next on the aisle side.  The lights went off, the show started.  I decided I needed my chapstick. I reached down, my eyes still on the show, and tried to pull my backpack into my lap. It moved but didn't come up.  Thinking its straps were stuck under the seat I gave it a tug.  Nothing.  Another tug, harder this time.  Nothing. Still watching the show, I really gave the bag a yank this time, and heard a grunt from behind me.  I turned around to discover that I didn't have my backpack in hand but the foot of the man sitting behind me and was yanking on it for all I was worth.

I almost pulled his shoe off.

Assalamoalykum,

Its only been 2-3 months that I have really been driving. I *just* learned to back up properly about 2 weeks ago. Don't ask how i got my liscense.

Anyway, My neighbours are always out on the street, its a pretty cool place to live actually.
On *so* many ocassions, I have done something stupid while bacing out and my neighbors watching me. One time I backed onto the front lawn. I drove on it for two seconds, and in those two seconds I covered a lot of distance on our front lawn. (Our front lawn is very big)

My dad drives pretty fast, especially, when he pulls or backs out of the driveway. One morning, I decided to back out really fast. I didnt' look back and I hit the trash bin and it flew across the street into the neighbors driveway! Man, was I embarrased! Thank God, It was empty! Thos things are huge, the neighborhood provides every family with those. Anyway, my Dad saw me and told my mother to tell me that I'm not a race car driver and better be careful next time.

Anyway, do you guys want to hear a sad story now? Well, see, going to college, I take a lot of right turns. As you know, even if the light is red and if the road is clear from oncoming traffic, you can take the turn. I was coming home and thinking about my speech class, I was lost in thought. I had to make a left turn but for some reason I thought I was taking right turn and turned. While I was making that turn, I of course looked both ways and saw Mr. Cop coming but he was a safe distance away and I made my turn. Well, when he flashed his lights, I realized what I had done. I haven't told my parents yet. All I told my Mom was that I needed 200 dollars. She is giving me the money. I am not sure how much the ticket is going to cost. I hope not more than that.

My friend is taking me to court. I don't want to lie. I am going to admit my guilt. THe officer wrote on the ticket, that the traffic was medium, it was acutally very light. So do you think, the judge is going to be tough on me? maybe he will feel sorry for me, and its my fist offense.

Oh, yeah, I also didn't know where the insurance was kept. It was in the armrest, but I was so nervous I only looked int he glove compartment. But it was there. Am I going to have to pay additionl fine for it?  :(

Wassalam
Re: What was your most embarrassing moment?
Arsalan

Assalamu alaikum,

Usually if you can show proof of insurance at the court, you don't have to pay an extra fine.

The judge is going to ask you your plea.  There's three choices: guilty, not guilty, no contest.  I suggest you say "no contest."  The difference between "no contest" and "guilty" is that in "no contest" you get to explain the situation, but you're still accepting the guilt.

Then you can explain to the judge why you did what you did.  I wouldn't lie.  Just tell him that you were absorbed in some thought and you made a left turn thinking it was a right turn.  That maybe you're dislexic!! :)  Just kidding.  No, just tell him what you said on here.  And tell him it's my first offense.

If he doesn't waive the ticket, ask him if there's an option of doing defensive driving or deferred disposition (community service).

May Allah help you!  The first one is always tough to swallow.  Then ... you get used to them :)

Wassalamu alaikum.

Over here in California if you go to court (you can just make the payment by mail) but if the cop doesn't show up they waive the ticket.

Arsalan is right, the 1st ticket is always scary.  Backing up and parallel parking used to be really hard when I first started to drive, but after a while you get used to it.

One thing I need to emphasize is that when you are driving, make sure you are not doing anything else.  Make sure you are not thinking about any problems or worries, or anything but driving.  Because if you think about those things it can distract you from driving and when one drives he/she needs to be alert always.  That's how accidents happen, when people have their thoughts on something else.  I have seen it too many times.  Everyone, becareful out there.

Saleema, if it is the first ticket then probably there will be an option for taking a traffic class.(I don't know if it depends on the state)
If it is then do take the class, it is just one-day(couple of hours) class where they tell you all traffic rules and safety etc etc.
There are two benefits of taking a class
1) The ticket doesn't show on your records (it can effect your insurance )
2) You can save that  $200 for some thing else (e.g. giving me a gift for giving you a brilliant idea :) )
Also atleast tell your mom about it.
Hope it goes OK for you. Let us know

Assalaamu alaikum,

Arshad, you asked about my embarrassing moments. Well, I can write a book on them since I've got tons of them! In fact, I don't consider most of my "embarrassing" incidents as embarrassing as they are part of my everyday life :)

Here is "embarrassing incident" number 2 for 10/5/2000:

I went for lunch at a restaurant that has an assembly line approach to food service :) I ordered, grabbed a tray, and moved along the line. When I reached the end, the server mentioned that I should pick up the fries. Well and good, I picked it up and proceeded to go out. Then I got “Hey that’s the salt shaker!!” I came back sheepishly and pick up my fries. :)

The salt shaker resembled the cup in which they serve fries. I didn’t see the fries cup placed beside the shaker, which was meant to sprinkle salt on the fries.

This incident is no big deal by my standards!

And hey, I feel sorry for all you guys with embarrassing driving moments ;) I have got none of those ‘coz I don’t drive :)

Well Saleema, these things happen. I turned left on a red light thinking it was a stop sign on my driving test!!!  Needless to say I failed and went home crying.  But I got my licence few weeks afterward.

I am -for the most part- on the good side of traffic laws, for the past 7 years I had my licence. This is of course with the exception of the speeding ticket I got just this last winter!

Thank you everyone for your advise. I don't feel so nervous anymore. I will tell my mom about the ticket after this while thing's over with. If I tell her now, I will be getting a lecture about safe driving until my court date.

Anyway, tq, if I don't have to pay money, (I'm sure I won't, inshallah), I am going to spend it on myself and you can share in my hppiness of a pair of new shoes or something. :)  After all, one Muslim's happiness is another Muslim's happiness. Embarrassing hijab story...

I became muslim at age 17. I have a little sister who was then almost 2 years old. Well, I only went to highschool half a day and worked evenings. And on Fridays, I had the day off for Jummah. So, this particular day I decide to take my little sister to the masjid. Okay, right away you're thinking bad idea. But she used to wear my hijab and pray with me all the time, so I figured it was safe.
Well she was pretty good up until it was time to pray. She told me she wanted to go now. I told her to remember to be quiet and we could go when the prayer was finished.
Well, she wasn't quiet. She kept saying my name over and over. I was so embarrassed. She finally got mad. During my first sujood. She sat on my head... I sat up without my hijab. I fought with her to get it back and tried to throw it back on without too much of a disturbance. I didn't know what to do. By the end of the pray my hijab was cocked to the side and barely on. Yet covered my head. I never took her back during Jummah.
I'll never forget that and it happened 7 years ago.

Brother Bhaloo and others can attest from some of my previous postings on *another* board that I lead a moderately embarrassing life.

Today's incidents (so far) include not knowing how to relight the pilot light on my stove.. I had to have management send over the repairman.. who thought I had called him to actually fix something.

Oh my gosh! I've been reading and giggling. OK, here goes...

I have this annoying habit of walking into men's restrooms by mistake. It happens about once a year. I'm a "head in the clouds" kind of person, and sometimes I just don't pay enough attention. I've never seen anything worse than guys washing their hands, but it's really embarrassing. The men are always amused and entertained as I blush and stammer apologies on my way back out the door.

It's almost worse when no one is there. Then I end up staring at these strange appliances on the wall that I don't really recognize. Then s-l-o-w-l-y... it dawns on me... that's... that's... a urinal! EEK! I'm in the wrong place! Not again!!

The other embarrassing part of this is that I'm almost always spotted by other people during my hasty, red-faced dash from the wrong restroom. To their credit, most of them try not to laugh while I'm still there.

I also have my share of embarrassing moments involving learning to drive a car with a stick shift in a city with a lot of steep hills, falling down stairs, spilling food on complete strangers and dumping out a tote bag containing "feminine" supplies into some poor man's lap while trying to get to my seat on an airplane. Yes, my seat was next to his. The supplies embarrassed him, but I think the books actually hurt him.

Like zakk, I seem to lead an embarrassing life.

Wow these are some of the FUNNIEST stories I have ever heard! I can't get over the "I HATE BUGS!" thing. What in the world possesed you to yell that out:D  Ohhhh I can't stop laughin!

And the feminine products...the men's bathroom:D:D   Oh boy

OK so here is my embarrassing story number two.

This summer I went to six flags and was havin a blast with a bunch of sisters. So I get on this really wild ride call the Mind Eraser. So picture this...I am in this thing with the shoulder harness over me and my legs are dangling out the bottom. I'm sitting next to my girl and after about 25 seconds of flippin, swoopin and shakin we stop about 20 yards from the platform and start inching up. I lean over and start to tell my girl how wild the ride was

"Oh sis what a blast, that ride was crazy!" Yadda Yadda.

And she is just lookin at me with this shocked and slightly bemused expression and she says,

"Uh..Aminah your scarf.."

Oh crap...so I figure it has slid of my head and is behind me up against the seat. No biggie.  I reach back quickly but....nuthin there!

"What the heck, where is it?"  So I'm searchin, panicking, loosing control... "Oh my God. It's gone..where's my scarf....WHERE'S MY SCARF!!!!!! I can't BELIEVE this is happening!! I must be dreaming! No Hijab, NO HIJAAAAAAAAAAAAAB!!!"

Meanwhile we are getting ever closer to the platform with about 10million men waiting to get a sneak peak of Aminah's hair. So I am going crazy, like completely freakin out. what am I gonna do? My scarf is seriously GONE...forever! So, I yank my shirt and pull it over my head just in time to get off the ride. I look like an idiot and I am walking around half in tears with my shirt pulled over me like a makeshift hood!

Tragedy:( At this point, one of the sisters went back to the ride after we stood outside for a few minutes in shock and asked for someone to go down and look for it. They won't, they can't till the end of the day. So I am out of luck...but we can't leave because we have no idea where the couple is who took us there! Well, thank Allah my other friend had on an extra t-shirt under her big shirt and we found a way to wrap it around my hair. Needless to say I have not gone out without my hijab pinned under my chin since, and the Mind Eraser (or should I say Hijab Eraser) is my arch enemy!

Boy, Allah sure has a way of getting his point across. Under the chis Sister Aminah! Under the CHIN!!!  :) :)

Sisters, tips for amusements parks:

Wear a hijab under your hijab (i.e. take a small one and knot it around your hair, then wear your normal hijab)

Pin that hijab in as many places as you can (hahah under you chin too) :)

Wear pants underneath your skirts/jilbabs

Wear shoes that have a back and that are tight

Bring your own water/bebzi because it's like four bucks a bottle...

You know Indian/Pakistani people are probably the only people that do that at an amusement park or other places that sell drinks/food expensive. ;)

Salamu Aliakom,

Embarassing moments? Hmm well I can remember a couple. Back in 6th grade (loooong time ago) at lunch time, i accidently stepped on a packet of ketchup and the stuff went flying all over the front of the classroom. Well needless to say I freaked out, and the bell rang and went to line up. So when my teacher saw the mess he said "whoever did this, confess" so I did, and actually for some other reason another guy said he did it too, and we cleaned up the stuff and went to class.

Back in 8th grade when I was taking French we were practicing our verbal skills so it was my turn to read from the book. So there was a word "chic" pronounced "sheek" which i prounounced as chick. Needless to say the entire class started laughing like crazy. It took me a while to figure out why they were laughing and I kinda got mad because ppl kept bugging me about it ALL day.

Heh some of those other stories are pretty funny too heh.

In my freshman year in college, I stopped to talk about some project with my bio lab professor in the hallway.  As we finished, I was backing down the hall a bit to make for the ladies restroom, still talking.  And then I turned to go into the bathroom, and he starts saying, "No, no.." but I'm already in the bathroom and wondering what is he saying no for?  Well, I had walked right into the mens bathroom, and it took me a full minute to figure it out and then come back out where my bio professor still was.  He was cool about it but I'm sure he was wondering, why did it take her a full minute to come back out? lol

On my first day of college, I could not find the chemistry bldg, despite using the campus map.  Finally I started asking ppl if they knew where it was.  Well, everyone I asked seemed to be a freshman and didn't know either...until someone pointed out that I was standing on the steps of the building in question.

Just a few months ago, I decided to take the baby shopping with me.  I went into the store, made my purchases, and came back out.  I strapped the baby into the carseat... and then discovered I could not for the life of me fold up the stroller; it was my first time using it without hubby dearest.  So I stood in the parking lot for a good ten minutes, tugging at the thing, until I spotted another woman with a small child and asked her to help.  It took her all of 5 seconds! I thanked her and zoomed out of there.

I don't know if anyone drives an acura integra, but if you do, you will notice that the trunk release and gas tank opener are in the same spot.  I cannot tell you how many times the poor gas station attendant has shut my trunk for me.

My co-workers are still talking about this one.

Last year, the CEO of our company flew in town to have a meeting with all of the home office employees. There were about 125 of us at that time.
Well, all of us went to the meeting location which was at a very classy hotel meeting room!! Well, I spied cookies. I love cookies! At the time, I was caring a huge and heavy purse. Well, with a handful of cookies and my purse barely resting on my shoulder, I attempted to pore myself a soda. Right as I picked up my soda, my purse sliped down on my arm (the arm carrying the soda) and with my other hand filled with cookies, I had no choice but to let the purse fall onto my wrist. Well, the weight of that huge puse landing on my wrist cause me to spill the soda all over myself. Also, drenching some poor guy standing behind me. I was so embarrassed and tried to clean it up quickly. I never appologized to the guy because I was so embarrassed and didn't realize that I had actually gotten him too.
Well, to make matters worse...a co-worker tapped me on the shoulder laughing and said "Way to go soaking our CEO in Sprite!!".
Just then, the guy I drenched got on stage and started to give his speech. It was our company's CEO. I just sunk down in my chair and put my program over my face.
Every time the CEO comes into town, I make sure to avoid him!

(this is my first post) [clap clap clap]... but anyways yeah yeah im in the sisters section but i couldnt help to resist the "embarrasing moments" section... this one is kinda sad and kinda not... but like a  year ago my brother's wifes sister had a miscarraige... so it was a sad moment... it was the type of miscarraige that the soul had entered into the body and we were doing janazah prayer that morning... so i was at the house and we were all getting ready to go to the graveyard and some reason i started just crying... u know how it is... cant explain it... but anyways i was crying (and this wasnt a couple of sobs either)... and i was trying to find a bathroom to wash my face in and everything and i get to one and i open the door and a brother is in there!! thank allah (swt) that he was done... i dont know for some reason then i just smilied but i felt so stupid... so i dont know if this would be considered an embarrasing moment or not... :) ive read the postings so far and they are hillarious!!! =)

my best friend at college had her brother visiting from indiana, so i suggested we all go the park, my brother came along. so the two guys are playing basketball while my friend and i are on the swings..we're getting hyper and i start going real high, all of a sudddddden my scarf flies off my head. i jump off the swing and start screaming ( gaining attention ofcourse)..my friend is laughing too hard to help me..and i was soo embaressed. Fortunatly, the guys were too much into ther game that they didnt notice, but still very embaressing

story # 4859498540

I was sitting in our living room when i was in high school. we used to live in an apt complex where there were many muslims that we knew very well. so im istting next to the window watching tv, and all of a sudden one of the guys i know pops his head into the window and says salams..i start screaming and run upstairs cause i didnt have my scarf on. he is then scared away and  quickly dissappears while im still going hysterical upstairs..when i come back down, my brothres and my mom were laughing soo hard..i tried to act not soo embaressed and said "he just surprised me"..and all they could say between their laughter was "yeah right" i was soo embarresed..

i am the queen of being embaressed, these are only 2,  others consist of me falling on the ice in front of like 3 guys at the mesjid, sending a personal email to hte MSA listserve, etc

Assalam ualykum,

Ok so another car story. I dropped my sister off at her friend's home, I am backing out and didn't look back and slammed the car in the mailbox. At first I was going to flee the scene of damage (its not a crime is it?), but the good in me was victorious over the evil side and so I stopped to check the damage, but alhamdullilah, their mailbox was intact and the car intact except for a few scratches. My parents still haven't noticed. Probably because there are so many scratches on the car ever since I started driving. :D

This desi couple was staring at me so I quickly got out of there because I was feeling pretty dumb.

Bismilah arRahman arRahiem

Salaam alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu

I only recently became a member here, but sharing an embarressing moment seems to be part of the procedure here, so....
Two years ago when i moved from a very small town to a big city to go to university, i was going back home for the weekend. It was Ramadhan and i had brought some food with me, so i could break the fast on my way there. I was going with the train and was waiting at the station for the train to arrive when an elderly homeless man was asking the people around me for money so he could buy some food. Nobody gave him anything, i thought i would do a good deed and decided to give him some of my food as i didn't have a lot of money with me. I had to walk quite a while after him to catch up with him and when i finally did and offered him some sandwiches, he turned around and yelled really loud that he didn't want my sandwiches but that he wanted money! Now, the trainstation was packed with people, a lot of them staring at me......(it's two years after that incident and i have adjusted somewhat to "citylife"...)
Another embarressing moment was when i arrived early with my sister for a deen class given by a man from east africa. The classes were seperate ofcourse for men and women, the women could hear the class via speakers and talk through a microphone. We were the only ones in the womens section and we were talking about some personal stuff and my sister thought this would be a good oppertunity to measure me up because she was going to make me a dress, all this was done and discussed in detail. Through the glass of the door i saw legs of a man walking in the hall, and i said that i was sure that was the teacher because his legs were so skinny and that those were really east african legs. Soon after that we found out that the microphone had been om all the while and that the men had been able to hear everything.......
I think i did my part, hope i didn't create a too bad of an image about me?

Ma3a Salama,
Nurain.

Yikes! i hate this. But reading other's embarssing moments, mine is OK, i guess.

Two months back, while in college, i was talking with a friend of mine, when a fresher Muslima just walked in the male toilet. To my surprise, the female victim never realized her mistake until I ran upto her and made her realize that she was in the WRONG place. And she was really thankful that none had seen her there.

But the embarassing irnoy was that just few days later, i myself stepped in the wrong place by mistake. And from then on I look twice at the signboard. m/f ?

I never had such a blow to my confidence as this !

Well I just have to add this embarassing story from umrah here...

Between Tawaf and Saiyy you should go drink some Zamzam. So I moseyed my way over there, it is sort of an underground area under the haram and I start walking down the stairs looking for what I thought would be some kind of wells or big vhats or something. Then I hear "Hajja, Hajja!!" and I thought "Uh-Oh what'd I do now" being used to guards telling us where to go by now...so this ordinary sudani looking brother wearing a blazer over his thobe comes up and says "Hajja, you in wrong place... I take you" and then I look around and realize that there are only brothers around me, making wudu from the water fountains and God knows what else in the back of that area...I am in the BROTHER'S ZAMZAM AREA.. so the poor brother takes me all the way out and then right next door to the sisters area.. he looks at me and says kindly "First Time Haram ZES?" I said "umm yes" dying with embarassment and then ran away :)

I shared it with my mom the other day and she was shocked, she just stared at me in amazement, rolled her eyes and then burst out laughing saying 'Allah what kind of a daughter did you bless me with' in a sarcastic way of course.

i guess you could say that i have had quite a few moments which i wish i never had...

one moment:  i was at my friend's wedding, and the men and women were separated, but in the indopak culture, unfortunately, the idea doesn't float too well...anyway, as i was leaving the hall with one of my friends, she accidentally stepped on my shararah (skirt), and it tore right down the back...and, ofcourse, there had to be some men standing outside of the hall, so let's just say...it was a bit of a revealing experience...alhumdulillah it was kinda dark out though...

jannah, i hear ya...

this is kinda bad, but funny as well.  last summer, our family decided to take a road trip around the country, and it was by far the most fast-food-filled three weeks of my life.  during my dad's turn at driving, we decided to get some food from mcD's.  he decided to go through the drive thru, but somehow managed to drive right past the ordering intercom, and drove straight up to the window...the lady gave him a look that said, where did you come from, but thank God she was kind enough to take our order.

Another related incident...we were once again at a drive thru, and my dad was once again at the wheel.  there's six people in our family, so along w/ our fish filets, we got six large fries.  my dad forgot to ask for ketchup, so after he had already pulled away from the window, we all started yelling from the back of the van for ketchup, so he puts the van in reverse, and asks the lady for some ketchup...she's handing him a good amount for the amount of fries we ordered, but he says, no, all we need is one or two, so she said..."okay sir"...and we drove away laughing...hehe

LOL.

JazakuAllahkhairun for those laughs.  I just saw this thread and decided to check it out.
masha Allah those are real embarassing situations.

wow even this last few ones was real funny..
i got a few too... but not sure if its should be said or not.. one might be rated or something.
anyways here is one that happened to me earlier a few weeks ago.

my husband went to get an oil change of his car.  I got out of the car as he drove inside and told my hubby while he was getting the oil change i wanted to get something out of the trunk.  He said ok and went to pop the lid.  As I was walking in the back.  Stupid me!  i didnt realize there was a hole in the floor and i slipped.
as i screamed for help and tried to grab on with my dear life.  no one noticed me, or this hijab woman freaking out and my son is in the car like 'hi mommi im driving in the car bye' and im like oh my gosh, making this tiny little duah as i pull myself together onto the other side.  Alhamduilllah, im ok... but i end up giving my hubby this look like i almost died etc... and anyways it was scary but also embarassing as duh look down before u walk...

another incident happened to me also scary and just talking a bit about it is embarassing.

i went tubing (toboganning) a few weeks ago, 2 weeks ago.  Well it didnt go too well.   On my way down on the last bump, i crashed.  i fell off the tube, landed on my head, passed out and when i came to it was like minutes 2-3 had gone by and ppl were rushing to help me.  I was in such pain, my hijab had completely came off and was hanging down my neck, my hair was covered in snow and hay/ grass pieces.   I was very dazed.
I had to walk like that to the 1st aid office like that in front of all those ppl seeing me without my scarf, go into the office where i was examined by 4-5 guys who didnt see me with the hijab on but without.  i was very dizzy, and man here i am in pain and all i could think about was 'ooow they can see my hair, oh no'   anyways i was ok eventually... though i did have to be rushed to the hospital :)  alhamduilllah...

i have a few more..but i might post them after awhile...

take care

here's another one that i just remembered.

im in my apt sleeping in the room.  my doorbell doesnt work, anyways we had some problems with our water and the landlord mr fix it guy knocked on the door and of course im in the bedroom, door is closed and sleeping away.  Well he walked in the house, opened it with the key he had and was fixing the stuff in the bathroom and whistling.

well imagine me when i heard the whistling i thought i was hearing things, i was like oh my gosh what's going on.   i grabbed my hijab and jelbab over my house clothes and like i heard the whistling really loud and some noise and im like OH MY GOSH we have robbers in the house... stupid me i open the door and call out like hello?

the mr fix it guy comes out and says 'hello i called before figured no one was home decided to come fix ur water.. its working now.  thank u, have a nice day' im like shocked and im like what the heck...  so i called my husband and yelled at him for it and complained to him... now i lock the door whenever he leaves work so i dont have them coming in to take a peek...

ok here is another one;

a month ago i was in the kitchen at 1am in the morning i was preparing some hot cocoa for myself before really turning myself in for the night.  When out of the blue, my tv went on by itself.  I was like scared cuz it was on full volume and im like WHAT!!!!!
The remote was on the tv itself so no way it could have turned on by itself or could it have?  my husband was already asleep and my son was sleeping as well.  It was just me.  I closed the tv and went back to the kitchen and a few seconds later it turned on again.  i went there and turned it off and went back again it went on for a 3rd time.  I was really like oh what's going on here.  So i unplugged the tv..
the next day i told my hubby about it and he's like 'see its the shaitan jinn that wanted to watch' and im like ha ha ha..very funny.. seriously.

it happened a few more times again and i related this to someone and they told me that my tv prob had a timer alarm clock on it and it was the wake up call..

ok here it is, nice and simple. (dont say i didn't warn you)  most embarassing thing that happened to me was back in 85-86.  I was only 11 years old.  I didnt know anything about menstruation or anything cuz my mom never taught me that stuff, though i was just getting to learn that stuff in school but wasnt really getting it to what it really was.

anyways, i was outside playing and went in to use the bathroom.   Washed my hands and noticed that we were out of paper towels.  Well foolish and naive as i was way back then, (not that im saying right now im naive) but then, yah...
i saw a box on the wall that said 'napkins 10 cents' stupid me... decided well i need to dry my hands, so i stuck in 10 cents, a dime and pulled out a box.  looking at the box funny and im like ok what's going on..
i opened it to find this 'pad' lol.
im really confused here to what's going on, and where the heck is the napkin.   anyways the sticky part stuck to my hand, it literally stuck to my hand and wouldnt come off.  i didnt think anything much of it and left the washroom, as i heard the bell ring for class, i walked down the hall, past all the snickering students that were pointing at me and laughing and i had no idea why. LOL
all the way into my classroom and sitting down as the teacher saw what everyone was laughing about and excused herself and me from the class, taking me to the bathroom that was across the hall from the classroom, and explaining to me exactly what was going on.. and all that.

imagine my tears coming to my eyes when im like i had no idea... wah wah wah *sob * *sob* *sniff* *sniff*
anyways, i came back to the class and the teacher explained cuz im only this little kid i had no idea and said her family raised her a different way so she didnt know and you guys are all going to apologize to her for laughing at her, and also explain to the other students in the school if you hear about it that too...  and i sit down in my class, i cannot really concentrate cuz of what had just happened.
though i went home ppl teased me about it for the longest time, and i remember that night when my family asked me how my day was in school, i really yelled at them for it.
lol
but that was embarassing.

ok now i told you, pls shoot me now..
i wont be here to read ur funny replies.

I was with my dad on a Sunday walking over to a coffee shop to meet up with a co-worker/friend of his when all of a sudden this old lady walks up to my dad and pinches him. So I'm like what the ?? And my dad says hey what are you doing? And his friend goes "hey lady he doesn't even know you !!!"

Heh well, we forgot it was whats its day, where if you don't wear green you get pinched. I didn't think older people follow that sort of stuff.

Way Way Way back when I was like 6 or 7 years old, I was visiting Egypt over the summer. So me and my mom and my sister and my aunt went to the Zoo. Anyway so we're walking along and we see this camel right, looks cute right? So my mom gave it some of this orange chewy stuff and it started eating it. Well then she turned around and the Camel bit at my mom's shoulder !!! Alhamdulilah her hijab didn't come off but she freaked out and started yelling. Heh so definatly do not feed the animals, especially camels hahaha.

Ok, I havent posted in this thread for a while, and the reason is NOT that I haven't had any more embarassing moments, cuz u know I have :-)

So here's one of them...

Last week, I was on the phone with the bank.  I had to write something down, so I came to the computer table and proceeded to sit down on the chair.  Unfortunately, the chair had been moved back, so I fell backwards, hit my back on the chair, propelled the chair backwards causing it to crash into the baby's toys, which in turn caused a large metallic bang!
And since I was on the phone I had to pretend like nothing happened, even though I know they must have heard the racket.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

My beloved Madinans (madinininians?), I'm going to confide in you.  This is truly one of my *most* embarassing moments.  And I've had a lot, so you know this must be pretty bad.

ISNA.  Two years ago.  Chicago.  Registration day.  Main entrance of the conference center, literally thousands of my fellow brothers and sisters moving in and out.  There's a big escalator that leads up and down from the main conference area.

I'm wearing this blue skirt that's long enough to touch the ground.

A friend and I register.

Then I get on the escalator with this friend and... my skirt gets caught in the escalator.

I start to panic.  My friend starts to panic.  Other Muslims turn and stare.   I hear two brothers on the opposite side, "what should we do?  we should do something.."  Literally hundreds of people are looking.  We're freaking out.

We reach the bottom of the escalator.  I'm holding up this huge group of people waiting to get to registration.  They're all staring at me.  I'm close to tears, tugging on my skirt, trying to pretend this isn't happening to me.. my friend jumps over to the side of the escalator and hits the emergency stop button.

She helps me yank my skirt out, we run like heck.

I keep my head *down* the rest of the entire conference.

[Shout out to my g who helped me out of that one.. I love you :)  Thanx for getting me out of it alive ;)]

Se7en, I know someone else that went through the same thing, except the escalator was going up, and it was in the east coast as well.  Her friend had to stop the escalator press the emergency button.  She didn't run away, she just sat there and and all these people apparently surrounded her and asked her along with the mall security if she was ok.  Maybe this is what they mean by everyone has their 15 minutes of fame? ???

there were people across the road having hysterics because of the audible bang.
my family didn't let me forget this for ages

Assalam ualykum,

This may not be as funny to the rest of you as it is funny to me. We were discussing our childhood memories coming back from the masjid today with my brothers and we had a good laugh on this.

I guess the stupid part in the story is, well,--Me. I was in sixth grade at this time. I must have had my head in the cloud but I'm afriad that even this doesn't do justice. It's beyond stupidity for a 6th grader. My brother was in 3rd grade. He one day asked me what people read on their payer beads and I didn't know anything about dhikr or the like. So not wanting to sound ignorant I told him in a very I know-everything-manner that people said their 123s on their prayer beads to get ajar. So my brother read 123s for a long time until my dad found out about it and told him the right stuff.  :)

Man... can you believe it! 6th grade!

I've just read all seven pages of embarrassing moments and think I'm ready to share this one with you.
I was at the cinema with my little brother. The film was about to start so I told him to go in and get two seats and I'd buy the popcorn and Coke.
When I came into the theater the lights were off and the film had started. Of course my little brother had gotten us two seats right in at the wall at the end of a very long row. So I edged my way along the row, disturbing everyone along the way and balancing two Cokes and two large Popcorns. Then just as I reached my seat it happened...I spilled the Coke all down the back of a girl sitting in front of us. What was even more embarrassing is that she was really kind and said "it's okay, no problem" and stayed sitting there. Now imagine how I felt having to sit behind her for the whole film and watch as she squirmed uncomfortably for two hours with wet clothes.....

I have had many embarrasing moments, and I'll share one with you guys.

I was in the walking in the Haram daydreaming (which I do a lot).  It was summertime, so I wanted to make wudu and get some zam zam.  For those who know the area, there are some steps which take you done to a lower level where you can make wudu.  Anyway, I was walking down these steps when I noticed all these women dressed in black sitting on the steps done below - I thought to myself thats a strange place to congregate.  By this time I was about half way down when a couple of the guards started shouting at me to get my attention.

GUess what ?
I had taken the wrong turn and started to make my way to the Women's wudu area !

I was just so embarrased, you know when you go all red and your cheeks feel really hot.  I ran back up the stairs and briskly made my way as far as I could from people who had witnessed my actions.  I think I ended up somewhere on the first floor !
