Asalamo Alaikom, I don't know if you will be able to help me with this question but if you don't have the answer, perhaps you know where I can find out. I would like to find a Hadith (or even a Quaranic verse) that mentions what to do for suffering animals. I mean if you see a cat or a dog in pain and dying are you supposed to leave it or are you supposed to kill it (put it out of its misery)? Is this considered a mercy killing? Thanks for your time, Salamo Alaikom. |

As Salaam Alaikum, I am not sure about putting them out of their misery but i know there is a hadith that mentions a man who drank some water from a well and then he saw a dog that was biting at the dirt on the ground or licking the ground out of thirst. the man saw this and had mercy on his so he filled his shoe with water and let the dog drink until he was satisfied. The Prophet (saws) said that he had earned a great deal of blessings from that or maybe that action would be his ticket to Jannah. I hope this is helpful. Allah know best. |

slm Allah created this animals and He is the one who decides when they die.Allah subhanahu watala is more merciful to His creatures than the mother to her baby. All you can do is help alleviate the pain of this animal and try to help it as much as you can.Death is in the hands of the Creator only. Wa Alahu a'alam. |

slm 1.Is it for you to take any creatures life? 2.Are you more merciful than Allah, whom the prophet Muhammad said "He is more merciful to His slaves than the mother to her infant on her lap??? The answer to both questions is NO. Everything in this world happened for a reason,so it's Allah's will to do that. All you can do is to help this creature as much as you can by trying to help it stay alive or trying to provide shelter or a good resting place until it dies, this way you will never know maybe Allah will put you in jannah for that. After all you know the story about the man who gave water to a dog and the prostitute who did the same thing. And we should learn a lesson from that ,that when the time comes we can do nothing about it. |

The only ruling i know of applies to Humans That if you try to cure it or lessen it's suffering and the medicine has the effect of quickening death then that is allowed I did read about a Animal rights law that was proposed to the caliph in the i think 6th century of the islamic era by the guy who wrote 'the book of animals' but it's contents i have no idea of. Possibly it was lost in the holocaust caused by the crusaders |
