| salam Maybe its not a guy's business to poke nose here in this section. Anyways... I am finding a lot of enthusiasm for the fashion shows among the muslim females. They are watching the shows on TV with great excitement and respect for the candidates taking part. Is it the lucrative luxuries that come along for the winners which is creating this craze? Or is it because it disapproves the age old notion 'Beauty and brains' cannot go together? Are beauty contests the real yardstick for measuring beauty? Or is it, as Allama Iqbal complained, trying to make woman as nothing more than mere water and clay? Anybody here has an alternative for these shows? i am getting sick of ppl getting excited at these human auctions... |

Shaykh Yaqubi told us at ISNA - if you are trying to control your gaze when looking at someone like that who you see as beautiful - think about how this person looks to Allah - think about how this person is acting in open rebellion against the Most Merciful. How can such a person be beautiful? Br. Mokhtar told us in our class today - outer image is gone when we die. It is the inner image, our selves, our hearts that will remain. That's what we have to show Allah, because He does not look at our bodies or our faces, but indeed He looks at our hearts. There are people who have what we consider such beauty externally, but inside they are dark and their hearts are the worst kind of ugly. And these people my yardstick for beauty? Why, because their eyes are a certain color? Because they have curves in the right places ??? Let me tell you a story of people who are beautiful. There was a man in the Prophet's time named Julaybib. He was ugly and deformed. When Rasulullah, peace be upon him, approached a family of the Ansar for their daughter to be married to him, they were horrified. The daughter heard this and recited, Whenever Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, it is not for a believer to claim freedom of choice... Then she said, I am satisfied and submit myself to whatever Allah's Messenger deems good for me. They married. They found him after a battle, dead with seven of the opposing side dead around him. Rasulullah peace be upon him said, This man killed seven and then he himself was killed? [i] This man is of me and I am of him. [/i] The Prophet himself dug his grave and laid him in it. Can you imagine these people. A man shunned by his society because of his appearance dying as a martyr, one of the highest of honor, placed in his grave by the blessed hands of the Messenger, may Allah grant him peace. A woman willing to sacrifice so much because she saw past the physical appearance of this man and sought a man with inner purity. The Messenger of God, the Chosen, saying of this horribly disfigured man - he is of me and I am of him. What beautiful people. What beautiful hearts. Now that... that is beauty. Erm.. I kinda went off a lil bit. Sorry. |

I think this post is a great example of what kind of profound effect a good teacher can make on an eager student. If only there were more of both in this Ummah of ours! There is depth in these eyes. There is conviction in this voice. And there is affection in this contact. Treat a woman based upon the beauty of her character not the beauty of her figure. | Salam, Its ok se7en, i never studied french either in high school. I passed it with a 70! :) And i took it with so much excitement too but I had the most boring teacher in the world. Wassalam |

| slm When I took French I learned practically nothing, it was a waste of time. Its always a nice treat to read Seven's works, especially in Foreign languages, I guess there is some use for French. heheheheh :) |
