TRUST by Se7en

"Ah! woe is me! Would that I had never taken such a one for a friend!"
[25:28]

- -

The dim glow of mid day reflected off the deep shadows of his room. The rain
fell. In it was heard the whisper of a threat, the reminder of something
powerful. His eyes burned, from too much sleep. He walked outside, letting
the chilled droplets leave indentations in his clothes, his eyes fixed to
the ground. He walked for a long time, unaware of his surroundings, of the
noise, of the people giving him curious glances. He walked, eyes remaining
steady, hearing only his own footsteps and his hollow thoughts echoing in
the silence.

Man has the innate need to trust.
But why is it that the ones we trust always betray us?
Because they are human as well, and weak.

Suddenly he looked up, letting his eyes adjust to the immense gray that was
the sky.

So we are weak. But I have never convinced others to sin. I have never
convinced others to disobey Allah. I have never betrayed someone. I have
earned trust.

The sky opened up, and lightning flashed. A memory flooded his mind, as the
sidewalk around him began to flood with water, lapping at his feet, moving
in a swirling pattern. He spoke, murmuring to himself, " No authority has he
(shaytan, the rejected one) over those who believe and put their trust in
their Lord." His eyes filled with tears, as the world around him filled with
water.

I have earned no trust. I deserve nothing. This pain which I have gone
through, this hurt that I feel, is nothing but a purification from sin. My
purification, as the world is purified by rain. This difficulty, this trial
is nothing but a rahmaa, from Allah, Lord of the Worlds.

And I am grateful for it.

His gaze lowered, he made his way home.

Assalaamu alaikum,

Nice thougt provoking story.

This pain which I have gone
through, this hurt that I feel, is nothing but a purification from sin. My
purification, as the world is purified by rain. This difficulty, this trial
is nothing but a rahmaa, from Allah, Lord of the Worlds.

This mention of hurt and pain and rain washing away sins reminds me of a similitude I like between the state of the heart and the state of a car's exterior (paint, etc).

When a car is clean and polished even the smallest speck of dust is readily noticeable and it mars the otherwise well-kept exterior. On the other hand, when the car is dirty or even rusted more dust goes unnoticed. Just like when the heart is rusted more sins go unheeded and unnoticed.

Now when water splashes on a car, it takes away some of the dirt. But it impacts the car so it also hurts. If the car is polished (with like a water resistant polish) the water rolls off immediately, the hurt is less, and the process cleanses the car. The more water impacts the car, the cleaner it becomes and the lesser the impact (because water rolls off quickly from a cleaner car). On the other extreme, a lot of stress and pain has to be endured to correct a rusted or a dented car.

So for a heart to purify, it has to go through a lot of hurt and pain. But these tests and trials cleanses the heart. Subsequent, trials and tests would hurt less and less as the heart becomes purer.

MashaAllah se7en! Your writting never fails to amaze me.

Your writtings are out there on the web. Why not collect them on one web site? Then people like me can benefit from it. :)

Assalamu alaikum,

I got this on a list that I'm on.  The person who sent it didn't write the author's name.  I would ditto Asim's request about putting all your writings together on a web page se7en.
