Hi
My sister told me about this website and said you guys had some really funny
stuff on it so I decided to check it out.  I don't want to change the mood but
I have a some what serious question to ask.  What made you guys decide to wear
a hijab?  I mean have you always worn one or did something happen to make you
want to wear one?  I'm a muslim but I don't practice the religion so I don't
know very much I would appriciate any response.
Thanks

what encouraged me, was at that time most of the people i use to hang around with were covered, but they were out of school friends, but alhamdurillah, I use to wear the hijab everywhere iwent with these friends except for in school, then i kinda felt like a hypocrite for being like that so Alhamdurillah the summer before grade 6, i got covered, full time.
I also keep in mind, that the hijab is really not that hard, if i want Allah (swt) to be happy with me and to get to jannah in the end.

When something makes sense to you, in your heart, in your mind, you can do two things.  Reject it, pretend you don't feel that way, or embrace it, take it on as truth and live your life by it.

Now that's what hijab was about with me.  I grew up in a family and community that always encouraged me to be a good Muslim.  But nobody forced me into anything.  When Islam started making sense to me I tried to practice it to the best of my ability.  I started wearing hijab.

That's it.  The heavens didn't open up for me, my Quran didn't miraculously fall open to Surat an-Noor that has the verse about Muslim women covering.  Cuz that's not what it's about.  It's about using what Allah has given you to come to the right decisions.  So when I used my mind, when I really thought about it, hijab made sense to me.

My anonymous sister, why don't you practice the religion?  With all due respect, you're falling into the same trap that the majority of Muslim youth in the US are in today.  You need to take the time to think about Islam, study it and come to your own conclusions.  Why are you Muslim if you don't practice the religion?   Don't play it half way.

Think long and hard about Islam and you'll find out if Islam is worth practicing or not.

Gotta pray Asr.  I'm out.

wasalaam.

Assalamu Alaikum,
Me and a couple of sisters and brothers went to Syracuse to visit the Muslim Youth with Br. Djafer and we talked about the challenges muslim youth had to face in the 21st century. One of the challenges we agreed on was the hijab.
We said that the reason to wear a hijab is b/c it's ordered by Allah-u Teala and it's written in the Qur'an. I was very excited to wear a hijab. I started in the summer after fifth grade. I had to wear one in middle school cause we had to. But, I really enjoyed wearing a scarf and letting people know that I'm a muslim.
Another reason to wear a hijab is b/c it's your identity. When you wear a scarf and a non-muslim passes by you, they look at you and if they're educated they know that you're a muslim. By wearing a scarf you let people around you know that you're a muslim and you take your religion seriously by wearing a scarf. The scarf is not the only element in your identity. We wear long sleeves and cover our legs and that also shows who we are. B/c if we wear a scarf with short sleeves or shorts, then we'd me making fun of the scarf and we'd be embaressing ourselves. There's a Turkish saying that goes "Don't ruin your name by making it dirty". This saying applies to anything, but for this matter, don't let the name of the muslims go bad.
Scarf is an essential part of our religion. One reason we cover our hair and neck with the scarf is b/c the hair and neck are a symbol of beauty. Allah-u Teala wants muslim women to cover themselves and not show their beauty, to outside men at least and to save it for their husbands. So, when we let our hair open and our necks, men look at it and instead of hiding it, we are exposing ourselves.
Allah-u Teala created women as very gentle, humble, and fragile creatures. Women have a very high place in the eye of Allah-u Teala. By covering our hair, we will be receiving many good deeds InshaAllah, and pleasing Allah-u Teala.
May Allah bless you and help you in covering up.
Salam
