| Salam, Wow, Saleema you remember me? :) Cool...I pray that everything is well with you. Haaris, thanks for the welcome... Funny story sheikh Hamza told us in Spain: The wife of Omar(may Allah be pleased with him) had taken to going to the masjid for fajr prayer. When Omar disapproved of this, his wife reminded him of the hadith "And do not prevent your women from entering the masjids." Proven wrong, he said nothing more about the matter. But he couldn't take it. So one early morning before dawn he went out before his wife, and hid behind a tree. When he saw his wife passing, he poked her and ran off before she saw him. The next morning, he asked her why she wasn't going to fajr, and she said "People have really gotten bad." :) |

| Assalamoalykum, Yes I remember you. I just have a great memory. What can I say? :) Alhamdullilah, I am doing well. I hope in Allah that you are well too. (That's Kashif's line that I stole. :) ) I know of that story. I thought it was pretty funny too. I was mildly surprised, however, reading all this time about how Omar (R) was so strict in following the Sunnah of the Prophet. He didn't talk to one of his nephew for his whole lifetime because the nephew did something even after Omar (R) told him a hadith against it. And Omar (R) said that anyone who does not follow the Prophet is not from among the Muslims. Wassalam We have something in common. I like Rumi too. :) |

| Salam, Zara, yes, but unfortunately I don't have a great memory so I already forgot most of what I learned from him :) His kids and wife were there too, and I really enjoyed meeting them. His 2 year old son's name is Shaykh, so we were thinking, what are they gonna call him if he becomes a shaykh when he's older? shaykh Shaykh. double shaykh. how about shaykh squared :) One time we were trying to talk to Shaykh, and he's at that stage where no matter what you say, he says 'no'. So I was like: Me: 'tree' Shaykh:'no.' M: 'house' S: 'no.' M: 'agua' S: 'no.' M: 'momma' S: 'no!' M: 'hamzaaa' S: 'no.' M: 'Allah.' S: '(silence)' M: 'Allah?' S: '...' | Interesting that the first word that a kid almost always learns is "no" or "laa" or "nahin" etc. It's probably because of the fact that they constantly hear it from their parents! So the kid may not even understand what you're saying, but he just says "no" because that's what he's so used to hearing from his parents :) Wassalamu alaikum. |

| Assalamoalykum, Oh how cuuuuuuuutttttttteeeeeeee!!!!! I love little kids!!!!!!!!! I want a job really bad in Baby Heaven, i.e. daycare. Kids are so cuuuuuuuuutttttttteeeeeeee!! I think the best part about getting married is having kids. Lots and lots of cute little girls and boys running around in their diapers and smiling up at you with those beautiful innocent eyes, and drooling all over the place. I just *love* kids who drool a lot. We are 7 siblings, including me and my youngest brother is 4 years old. He doesn't like to be hugged and kissed and picked up anymore that much. He really hates it and I miss playing around with him like I used to when he as a baby... :( I want my parents to adopt a baby but they say its too much and the adoption agencies don't make it any easier for you either. :( Hey, so what was everyone's first word? Mine was "tada." meaning "Saeeda," my mother's name. My sister, who's 9 right now, her fist word was "Allah," at 6 monts of age and it was quite clear too. I think that's pretty cool. Don't ask about the rest of my family. They are all weird. :) Wassalam |

| salam, se7en's was 'ducky'...I don't know where she got that though...could explain her abnormal personality today... Mine was 'cookie', according to se7en, who was negative se7en at the time so I don't know what the heck she's talking about :) Maybe thats why I always have this urge to say 'ME WANT COOOOOOKIE!' everytime we're at the store...and incidentally I eat like cookie monster too :) Wassalam |

| Subhanallah, I would urge you to visit Granada if you should have the opportunity. But I must admit, the level of presence of the heart can profoundly affect one's experience of a place, or the world in general. Had I gone to Al-Hambra on my own, I doubt it would have affected me in the way that it did with Sheikh Hamza. I am really having a much harder time describing it than I thought...all I can really say is that we spent most of our time crying at what had happened to these people that once walked within the palace walls. To imagine that people from all over the earth come to this place, to see this paragon of beauty. The structure itself embodied spirituality, it was the realization of Islam. What I remember most is when we had gathered in the Hall of Abencerajes, all of us students around shaikh Hamza, waiting for him to give us a talk on the history of Muslim Spain. He couldn't stop crying, and we'd all look at the glory around us, and then he said "The Arabs say you judge a people by what they leave behind. Look at all these people, what have they come to see? " There were tourists all around doing their thing. He couldn't talk, so he started singing a Nasheed. We all started singing with him, it was the most soothing thing I'd ever heard. The sound echoed in the room beautifully, like nothing I'd ever heard, and all of the suddden, all the cameras clicking away around us stopped. It seemed like the whole world around us stopped, and for a moment, it was just us and Al-Hambra, creatures lost in worship of Allah. Sheikh Yakoubi's 4 year old-daughter played with the water in the fountain, and shaikh Hamza held his son Ibrahim close in his arms. I had never before felt this kind of happiness in my heart. I wish I could articulate what we experienced there. There's entire universes beyond words. I pray that Allah places tranquility in your heart and coolness in your eyes. ;-) Salam ;-) |

| assalamu alaikum, I thought it was called Al-Hamra? Or is that a different place? I recently read an excellent article about this rihla [trip] to spain in our msa newsletter. The person who wrote it also referred to it as Al-Hambra as opposed to Al-Hamra. I actually know that sister but haven't seen her in a some time, and still haven't found out. Wassalam, Mona |

| Salam, Actually you're right sister Mona. The Muslims originally called the palace al-Hamra, The Red, after its color. It is litrally part of the mountain it is built on. But you know those spanish, they love to roll their R's, so I guess Hamra turned into Hambra through time. The Arabs, however, still call it al-Hamra. :) Salam :) |
