Muslimah's mistreated in Boston

As Salaam Alaikum.

I almost posted this as a reply to something else but I figured it needed it's own thread. I pray you all respond and get just as outraged as I am. Please give suggestions if you have them.

We really need to be doing more dawah to the non-muslim masses to inform them about us and our lifestyle. I tell you the people who run this country don't give a rat's tail about us and what we need. In fact we get mistreated and discriminated against, especially if you are Arab or Black and nobody in Washington really cares.

Two of my friends were falsely arrested in a predominatly white, christian town/city outside Boston. They had two toddlers and one infant with them and the cops were so cruel they just ripped the infant out of my sister's arms and broke her finger in the meantime. The baby was taken to a hospital with no relatives there to look out for her and she had never had anything but breast milk in her life (she was only one month at the time) So when the two sisters were taken to the police station and "booked" their hijabs were ripped off their heads and not given back to them even when the sisters cried and begged for them and explained that it was religious and like being forced to sit topless in front of men! The sister with the infant even said whenever another man walked in the room it was like being raped over and over again. When she said this I almost cried. They explained that they had never been uncovered in front of men since they were very small but it didn't matter.

One of them had a extra T-shirt on and when she was in the cell, she took it off and wrapped it around her head. But the jerks (I wanna use another word) took that from her too claiming that she might use it to "hang herself"!!! Can you believe that crap??!!!.

They are planning on sueing the city of Waltham and the Police Dept. for false arrest, abuse, and violation of religious rights. They were not even mirandized and had no idea what they were being arrested for until hours later. Actually, the police had to "think" of something to charge them with. I am so upset by this. CAIR international has not been too helpful at this point unfortunately. Any suggestions?

Assalamoalykum,

I am very sorry to hear this. I can't believe this happened. Not reading them their rights is a MAJOR VIOLITIONS of their rights. Contact the civil rights organization based in Boston. If they don't have one there, contact the nearest one in another city or town.

Did they call the news media and the newspapers? If not, do so three weeks from the court hearing.

Organize a protest against the Police in front of their main office base. Invite the non-Muslims for the protest also. Pass out flyers in the mall, in the masjids across Boston and in neighborhoods where minorites are mostly living and of course otehrs as well. You will get more sympathy and support from other minorites because they have also been targeted by the police.

In the high schools across Boston or at least some, get the Muslims who are on the newspaper staff to write a news story and an editorial on it. Write it in such a way as that it appeals to the students. Something from the angle of "What if your rights were taken away because of your race, religion, etc.? Have you ever been discriminated against?" Give the history of the whole deal with reading the rights to the accused... site other instances which came to the nation's attention regarding discrimination...

Contact someone who would be willing to write about this in colleges and university newspapers too.

PLEASE  let me know what happens/happened/ what you are planning on donin. etc.
