Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 7.741, Narrated Said Abu Maslama:
I asked Anas (bin Malik), "did the Prophet use to offer the prayers with his shoes on?" He said, "Yes."
Sunan of Abu Dawood, Hadith 652, Narrated Aws ibn Thabit al-Ansari:
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Act differently from the Jews, for they do not pray in their sandals or their shoes.
On a personal note, just because wearing shoes is ok, i don't think it would be wise to wear shoes in a place where it cost much to place carpet etc and say it's the sunnah, let me wear my shoes on the clean carpet, well, from what i've heard

Assalamu alaikum,

Chachi, from what I know, that is a matter of difference between scholars.  Most scholars agree, however, that the shoes that we wear nowadays are appropriate to pray in.  Wallahu a'lam.

BTW, there's a Modify feature that you can use to modify your posts.  So if you make a mistake, and you realize it later, you can modify your original post rather than sending another one as a "correction."

Wassalamu alaikum.

Nadeem ... wa iyyaakum

Wahid Khan ... in response to leather shoes or sandals, really i don't know ... but from other ahadeeth, it makes great mention of the Prophet Muhammad [sallallahu 3alayhi wa sallam] wearing leather shoes with no hair on them:

Bukhari 7.742, Narrated Said Al Maqburi
... As for the Sabtiyya shoes, I saw Allah's Apostle wearing leather shoes that had no hair, and he used to perform the ablution while wearing them. Therefore, I like to wear such shoes
...
Abu Dawood 1768, Narrated Adullah Ibn Umar
... As for the tanned leather shoes, I have seen the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) wearing tanned leather shoes, and he would wear them after ablution ...
Abu Dawood 160, Narrated Aws Ibn AbuAws ath-Thaqafi
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed ablution and wiped over his shoes and feet.  Abbad (a sub-narrator) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to the well of a people. Musaddad did not mention the words Midat (a place where ablution is performed), and Kazamah (well). Then both agreed on the wording:"He performed ablution and wiped over his shoes and feet."
Bukhari 4.339, Narrated Isa Bin Tahman
Anas brought out to us two worn out leather shoes without hair and with pieces of leather straps. Later on Thabit Al-Banani told me that Anas said that they were the shoes of the Prophet.
