Assalamu alaikum

I have been requested to introduce myself (admittedly quite a while ago - but I'm here now).  I am a new member and have been benefitting from you learned ones GINOURMOUSLY for quite a while now.  I am a student in England - can't really hide that with my e-mail address!  I just wanted to say that I think you all are amazing even though I am very new here and am still finding my way around.  keep on with the inspiration!

Assalamoalykum,

Well it is good that you have been learning from this board. I must say I learn a lot from this board too. But remember, don't take anything written by us on these boards as words of scholars or anything. We are all in the same boat as you.

I think there are a few people on this board who stand out from the rest of us for their Islamic knowledge, however. I won't name them, (all of them are very bashful  :)), but I am sure you noticed who those are.

Welcome aboard sis.

JAK for the welcome and all the words of advice.  In response to you traveller - I am from a very small place on this tiny island - not a lot of people have heard of it.  How about yourself?
And the rest of you for that matter - I am still new remember.
By the way, I don't suppose anyone can provide me with a list of women's rights like a.s.a.p?  I am trying to produce a poster display which really should have been done yesterday.  Any other ideas for what information I can put up? - the audience will Insha'allah be both Muslims and non Muslims.

Assalamu alaikum,

Go to these sites and do a search on "Women's Rights."  You'll find more info than you need :)

Each page has a search field or search link available on the main page.

Assalaamu alaikum.

How about adorning your poster with the various verses of the Qur'an in relation to women and equality/rights? How about the following verses;

Verily men who submit [to Allah] and women who submit,
and men who believe and women who believe,

and men who are obedient and women who are obedient,

and men who speak the truth and women who speak the truth,

and men who are patient and women wo are patient

and men who are humble and women who are humble,

and men who give alms and women who give alms,

and men who fast and women who fast,

and men who guard their modesty and women who guard (their modesty),

and men who remember Allah much and women who remember,

Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a vast reward.

(Quran 33:35).

You might also like to add some short ahadith as well. Check this out

http://www2.cronomagic.com/~dsalam/women.html

and then sum up the important points and add it on as well - You might like to write it out in a diagramatic manner and hence make it visually more eye catching.
The links that Arsalan gave you are the best - use it.
Another thing to do would be look into the Akhwat cafe and try to dig out something useful and relevent.

Assalamoalykum,

Learner--that is one of my favorite verses from the Qur'an. In arabic, it rhymes, its so cool. When you read it really fast, its like a tounge twister.
And I also like it because its really beautiful and I like the story behind the revelation of these ayat.

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), asked the Prophet (may Allah's blessing be upon him) that why is it that Allah never mentions the women when commanding them to do something. And this verse was revelead.

Muslimah: I was just glancing through the site suggested by Nadeem and Alhamdulillah there seems to be some very good material thet you can put up on posters. In particular check out the following:

http://www.beconvinced.com/women/CHIS.htm
http://www.beconvinced.com/women/HINDUWOMEN.htm
http://www.beconvinced.com/women/BI.htm

It would be really cool if you could print the info from the above sites and stick it up on your posters and then people can compare the rights of women in Islam versus the rights of women in other religions from their own scriptures. Also it might be a great idea to have some short poems about hijaab, oppression and all that stuff. The poems section in Jannah.org is very good for that.

I say all this providing it's not too late. Let us know how it goes and the response that you get from the non muslims.

Atthe moment, I'm trying to make a poster regarding morality in Islam. If anyone has any ideas please give 'em to me.

Wassalaam.
