"If the Jew claim the soil of Palestine,
Why has the Arab race no right to Spain ? "

Assalamu alaikum,

Sometimes verses of a poem taken out of context don't give the proper meaning.  Therefore, I'm gonna give the benefit of doubt to Allama Iqbal here.  Or perhaps I don't understand the verse correctly.  In that case I'd kindly request for someone to correct me.

But IF I do understand the verse correctly, and if we take the meaning of this verse alone by itself, the idea that it conveys is plainly WRONG!  There is no comparison between Palestine and Spain (or any other place for that matter).  Palestine is not just another piece of land that belongs to the Muslims because they lived there for a long time (like Spain).  Palestine means more than that.  It is a holy place for us.  The place from which the Prophet (pbuh) ascended to the heavens.  Have you ever thought about why the Prophet (pbuh) had to go to Palestine before he could go up to the heavens in mi'raaj?  I know you know the story, but have you really thought about WHY?  Why couldn't he just ascend from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah?  Why couldn't he just lead the prophets in the prayer in Makkah, or in its outskirts?  Or perhaps on one of the heavens?  Why Jerusalem??

The answer is simple, and we know it from the Quran.  The place itself, the land and the area of Jerusalem are indeed sacred.  Bayt-al-Maqdis was the first qibla for Muslims, not Spain!  Allah sent most of the famous prophets in that region.  It was indeed a *chosen* place.  A blessed place.  A place that is a symbol of belief, righteousness, Divine Guidance and morality.

This sacred place belongs to those who uphold the Will of Allah, who command what is right and forbid what is evil.  It belongs to the Believers and Believers alone.  That is why Umar Faruq (r.a.) didn't hesitate walking to Jerusalem to get its keys.  He could have simply asked the commander of the army to receive them.  But he didn't.  Because he knew the special place of Jerusalem in Islam.

Jerusalem is not like Spain ... or like Kosova, or Kashmir, or Bosnia, or Afghanistan for that matter.  It is special and unique.  And there is NO alternative for it.

May Allah give the Believers victory over the Jews, and give us the holy land back, and give us all the opportunity to pray in Masjid al Aqsa - a prayer that is equal to 500 prayers.  Ameen.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.

Hmm...I think I just figured out the meaning of the verse!!! Does it mean that if the Jews can claim rights to Palestine, then analogously speaking, why can't the Arabs (or Muslims) claim rights to Spain?  The same argument can be made by us for Spain that the Jews make for Palestine.

If this is the original intent of the verse, then I apologize for my rhetoric in the previous post! Sorry!

I'm not removing the post though because the points that I made still hold true, regardless of the meaning of the verse.

Wassalamu alaikum.

Never mind....

The point was that if the jews are claiming palestine just because they lived there and were expelled, then Muslims have the same right over Spain - the cradle of Muslim glory.

(Even i get confused at times with posts of other jannahmates. :) )
