Tropical Island

Imagine that you have bought a yacht and taken all your possession and brought them along on this yacht to travel the world.  Unfortunately due to bad weather the yacht sinks.  As it is sinking you realize you need to abandon ship.  You have a backpack to put things in.  What things would you put in the backpack?

You drift for a few hours and finally make your way to a deserted tropical island.  Will the items in your backpack help you?  'Did you choose wisely?

Assalam-u-Alaikum,

Okay... my answer would depend on whether the objects are those that I currently own or not.

If they are things that I currently own then they would be (this had better be one helluva backpack):

1. The Holy Qur'an with the English Translation.
2. Hisn ul-Muslim -- a wonderful dua' book(which I can put in my pocket so it may not count).
4. As many liquid products I can find including Al-Rabieh cocktails and Snapple lemon juices.
5. A fat barbecued chicken... high in cholesterol of course.
6. My super-loud alarm clock to wake me up for Fajr.
7. The disk with my entire web site on...
8. Maybe a bottle and a paper for them via-water messages.

Other things which I wouldn't put in a backpack but would rather carry would be my swatch, wallet, and a cucumber.

Things that i'd take but don't own would be:
1. A gorgeous, spanking-new, sleek black, Athlon 1 GHz laptop with satellite linkup.
2. a life boat (...duh...)
3. maybe a jet ski.
4. cell phone... always wanted one o' these!

I'm sure there are a thousand other things, but this is what i got for the moment.

Assalaamu alaikum,

Hey proudtobemuslim, you already own a YACHT! Come on, you can afford a 1 GHz notebook, and more!

Don't be skimpy. ;)

Wasalaam.

AsSalaam Alaikum,

i've given some thought to this and here is a partial list

My Quran - There has to be something about survival on this island in there!
Lots of String
the food I can fit in after all the other packing
candles, matches and a  few lighters - the backpack is waterproof
large trash bags
the cell phone with the internet access of course
a compass
change of clothes - Never know who you might see!
about 10 kimars
a swiss knife - with all the gadgets!
a inflatable pillow

assalamoalykum,

May I nicely say something? all you people wanting to take all these things with you, i think it would be a good idea just to stay put where you are right now. :)   :)

if you're going to to go to an island, or wait, do you involuntarily end up there? I am not going to go back and read it, I'm too lazy.

I would take the quran.
a knife, a hand gun full of bullets, plus some more bullets in a case.

Interesting answers, but these have to be things that you actually have.

Some of you were very practicaly, mostly the women, the men came up with some really bizarre answers.

Sister Malika, I'm curious about the string and how you would use it.  The rest of your items were really good.

Jannah's survival guide to living out in the wild sounds really interesting.  Has anyone tried to camp out in the wilderness?  I think I would be scared of all the bugs and wild animals.  Finding out what's safe to eat and trying to hunt for your own food sounds dangerous. ???

Assalamu alaikum,

If you have any sort of computer with web access, you don't need a Qur'an!  It's all on the web :)

That was exactly my point! Why would anyone bring anything else? And while I am there I would not have to miss out on Madina discussions :)

Hmmm...I wonder if they would deliver pizza to an address like 5'23" N, 10'15" E ???

Wasalaam.
