| assalamalaikum wa rahmatullah OK I'm not so evil :) (no offence bro Arsalan) but there's really not much that I know. All I know is Hatim Taiee was an Arab ruler. He was a very kind and generous person and would often go through his land in disguise and solve ppls problems. Well actually I just know about him coz I read some stories in Urdu about him (don't ask me to tell them coz it was a long time ago). Well in them he would often use words like a muslim, for example something like "Allah will do it" and overall the stories gave the impression that he was a good muslim. So that's why I was surprised when Arsalan said he wasn't one. Ok Arsalan, bro , be nice and tell us in detail what you know. :) wassalam abc |

| Assalamu alaikum, Brother Mirza had meant to say this in his original query: "Is it possible that a non-Muslim (say, a Christian) can act more kindly to a Muslim than his own brothers and sisters in Islam?" His query is most probably based on a disturbing observation that Muslims nowadays act so harshly with each other that sometimes the behavior of disbelievers is better towards us than that of our own brothers and sisters. Now, about Hatim Taee ... maybe I'll write something tonight insha Allah. Wassalamu alaikum. |

| Assalamu alaikum, Haatim Taee was a man born in Arabia before the birth of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). He was extremely well known for his generosity. His legends were famous all over Arabia and are even famous till this day, so much so that his name has become almost synonomous with "generosity" in many parts of the Eastern world. His mother used to say that generosity and kindness came natural to Hatim, and she had noticed it since he was an infant in the cradle. She was once resported to say that Hatim did not drink the milk of his mother for 7 days, until she had fed the baby of her neighbors! As an adult, Hatim was famous for his extra care in treating the guests and things of that nature. Once a friend came to visit him, and he did not have anything to feed the man. He himself had not eaten for quite some time. But a guest must be tended to! Alas he took his horse and slaughtered it. Mind you that the horse was an extremely expensive commodity at the time. It was a means of quick transportation, and was rarely used to feast upon. Nevertheless, Hatim slaughtered his horse and then invited the whole neighborhood for the feast. Even then, he himself did not eat a single bite out of the horse, because he was afraid he would eat something that another person had his eyes set upon! Such was Hatim Taee. His son and daughter both accepted Islam. His son's name was Adi ibn Hatim, a famous sahaabi. I don't remember his daughter's name. RadiAllahu anhumaa. Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah. |

| Wa'alaikum assalam, Man, I can't imagine why someone would be *that* interested in finding out about Hatim Taee :) Anyway ... He was not a ruler. Just a common man. Rulers, usually, are not that poor! About him never accepting Islam, I'm not sure if he lived to see the Prophethood of Rasulullah (pbuh) or not. In any case, he was not a Muslim but an idol worshipper and he died upon that faith. |

Because as far as I can remember the stories I read about him always seemed to portray him as a muslim. At least thats what I thought uptil now... Hatim tai lived before the time of the prophet i'm not sure as to how his action then relates to muslims. secondly did he act because he wanted to help people or was it out of attempt to raise peoples opinion of his tribe? and thirdly the ability of some muslims around the world to face overwhelming odds in jihad says a lot to me islam is not in need of 'reformation' mirza nor are muslims bad people when you compare their actions to certain non-muslims |
