Jannah group activity

assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

For a while i've been wanting to suggest a group act for us to do. Something that we could all go away and one week come back later and have accomplished.

I wanted to start this off by doing suggesting an act that we probably all have heard of its benefits but as yet haven't implemented: the memorisation of the first ten verses of surah al-kahf.

Abu Darda' reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: "If anyone learns by heart the first ten verses of the Surah al-Kahf, he will be protected from the Dajjal." [Muslim 1766]

If enough ppl think that this is a good idea, perhaps we can start on Monday and set an end date for next Jumu'ah?

We can put up a transliteration in english for those who have difficulty in reading arabic, insha'allah.

Hmmm, when it said group activity I thought it meant Kashif was taking me and the brothers on a trip to China.   Looks like this will not be a reality. :(

Hey.. I like the idea. Considering that I'm too lazy to do things on my own, maybe group work will help me (insha'Allah)

Assalamu alaikum,

One quick note about that transliteration.  The last alphabet 'n' of each verse is silent (i.e. it is not pronounced), unless you are joining the verse with the next one.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

(18:1)
Praise be to God, Who hath sent to His Servant the Book, and hath allowed therein no Crookedness:

(18:2)
(He hath made it) Straight (and Clear) in order that He may warn (the godless) of a terrible Punishment from Him, and that He may give Glad Tidings to the Believers who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a goodly Reward,

(18:3)
Wherein they shall remain for ever:

(18:4)
Further, that He may warn those (also) who say, "God hath begotten a son":

(18:5)
No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying what they say is nothing but falsehood!

(18:6)
Thou wouldst only, perchance, fret thyself to death, following after them, in grief, if they believe not in this Message.

(18:7)
That which is on earth we have made but as a glittering show for the earth, in order that We may test them - as to which of them are best in conduct.

(18:8 )
Verily what is on earth we shall make but as dust and dry soil (without growth or herbage).

(18:9)
Or dost thou reflect that the Companions of the Cave and of the Inscription were wonders among Our Sign?

(18:10)
Behold, the youths betook themselves to the Cave: they said, "Our Lord! bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way!"

Assalaam Alaikum

This is a wonderful idea!
count me in also

Question:  What requirements do we have by next Jumu'ah? How do we let the team know we did it? we had trouble? etc...

Very good idea - count me in too.
A question, can we learn it during our salats i.e. reading it from a Quran during salat  ?
I don't remember where but it was brought up as a discussion on a message board that we can only recite surahs in salat that we have memorized. i.e. we cannot read it during salat. Does any one know about it?

Wasalam

Brother Kashif,

Assalam alaikum wa rahmatullah!

Hey, you pipped me to the post! Only two days ago I had an idea for a type of group activity for here (no really ;-)). Time just prevented me from getting my foot in the door. Anyway, may Allah ta'ala grant you ajar [reward] for a great idea! Masha'Allah.

assalaamu alaikum

Ameen to your du'a Abu Khaled - for all of us. *smile*

Given that the brothers and sisters here have memories of different strengths, rather than start the memorisation on Sunday, i think now would be as good a time as ever to start the memorisation. What i think would be useful is to make the deadline for the following Jumu'ah insha'allah [Fri 3 November]. That way we can all come back in the evening and let each other know whether we've been able to memorise it or not.

May Allah make this a blessed and accepted action. Ameen.
