Bismillah, I know a few sisters who say it is haraam to talk to males when its just the 2 of you. As a brother I find it hard to approach a sister if I want to talk to her about a certain matter, as I don't think I'll get a welcome response :( If shes with a friend, then it maybe even more embarrassing or intimidating for her and I don't want to put one in such a difficult situation. So, under what circumstances are non-mahrum males/females allowed to talk in Islam? jazakallah khair |

assalaamu alaikum I think this is something that people tend to go to extremes in: either they have too much contact or they go to the other extreme where there is not enough. We're all aware of the terrible probs that can and DO occur when brothers and sisters have too much contact, but on the other hand people have to realise that Islam has given us guidelines on how to conduct meetings with the opposite sex when necessary - e.g. lowered gazes, not speaking in soft tones, etc. - these are NOT guidelines on how not to meet. People can be so odd. When i was at uni, we needed to sit down with the sisters and plan for a big event, and their first suggestion was "lets have a meeting over e-mail." hmmmmmmmmm... sisters eh? hehe |
