Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

I have kinda started wearing the naqab (veil over the face). i have always been convinced that it is better that just wearing the headscarf especially when going to places where there are chances to meet a lot of men like the supermarket or malls.

Personally i think i get more respect this way.  although from some men i get this look which says "man i better stay out of her way". then there r others who look at me as though i am a terrorist of some sort!!!

I just wanted to know how many of the sisters wear the naqab on this board and what u all think of the naqab.

Assalaamu alaikum

Masha'Allah ki - may you be an example for others. :D

Personally, I have the highest of respect and honour for sisters who have the courage and the love for Deen to wear the niqaab (and by saying that I am not implying that sisters who do not wear the niqaab are any less). What I am saying is that it is a greater show of enthusiasm for the deen of Islam by following the intricate details of the shari'ah. I have more respect for these sisters than I have for brothers. I know for a fact that brothers have to go through a little hardship for their beards (e.g employment etc). If brothers find it difficult then obviously I'm sure that sisters find it even more difficult with their entire hijaab and not to mention the further difficulties they must face with the niqaab.

Everytime I happen to spot a sister properly dressed accordong to Islam, I look down, say masha'Allah to the sister (in my head), and carry on walking as normal in the Islamic manner.
The same thing happens when I happen to spot a sister in niqaab but with an addition that I make du'a to Allah that he gives all my sisters in Islam the strength and courage to wear the niqaab.

I would like to ask one question though to enlighten myself:

How do you explain the necessity of wearing the niqaab to your employer? (if you're working that is)

Sorry, for all the questions...just a little curious here

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

i understand ur questions regarding the problems that have to be faced by a sister wearing the naqab. even though i live in the united arab emirates, a predominantly Muslim-populated country, sisters still face problem to get a decent job even if they just have a head-scarf on. so i know that wearing a naqab will mostly mean a definite "no" for a job.

however, i worked in a school based on Islamic principles for about a month and a half and there i met a sister who would wear her naqab. the school had no problem with her. she still works there. (she was my inspiration really)

i am not working anymore and i dont want to in the future either. i am not the working types. i prefer being at home. so inshaAllah i wont have to face this problem about not getting a job due to my naqab.

i have heard that some scholars say that naqab is optional. so in that case maybe sisters who have a difficulty in getting a job can opt not to wear it. but i am wondering is a job worth compromising your beliefs for???

i am no authority but this is what i feel.

During Hajj- women are not allowed to wear it. Why?

Assalamu alaikum,

Kathy, there's a hadith regarding that.  Rasulullah (pbuh) specifically ordered women to keep their faces uncovered during Hajj.  I don't think he mentioned the reason.

So you wear it in a non Islamic country? I only wear it sometimes in Emirates when we go shopping or to the souq, but in australia i don't, i go to an Islamic school here but it's islamic by name, We have to wear a scarf but i don't think they'd agree to niqab. I might start full time niqab after i finish highschool though, Inshaillah,

As Salaam Alaikum,

Just a guess but maybe the benefit of not wearing niqab on hajj is because the women need to be protected and in such a crowded place it may be hard for their mahrem to spot them if their faces are covered. It could lead to complications and possibly mistaken identity, people getting lost etc.
